Separation of Berlin

The Berlin Wall was a divider between East and West Berlin, the capital city of Germany. It stretched for miles upon miles. Ninety-seven miles in total, and 11.81 feet in the air. After 30 separated years, families were worried to know if there family members that were separated by the wall. Parts were taken all around the world brought by people who were at the site when it fell on November 9, 1989. This is a wall that will be remembered for hundreds of years in not only Germany, but everywhere in the world.

Big Ideas
The big wall stood for something. It symbolized the cold war between communist, soviets bloc and the democratic, capitalist bloc. The soviets bloc are people who are communists and want all power over “their people” and the capitalist bloc are people who let the citizens of the country or land be free with their own rights. The cold war was between the US and the Soviets in a race to have the most nuclear weapons and it was happening while the wall was standing. The West side of the wall was way more colored with graffiti and painted pictures. Everywhere anyone looked on the west side, they would have seen graffiti and abstract pictures of faces. The whole wall, 97 miles, was full with vibrant colors, but sadly the freedom to do that, without getting shot at, was only on one side of the wall. West Berlin was owned by three different countries, including America, Great Britain, and France. The East side of the wall was owned by the Soviets only. Along with the nickname “Iron Curtain,” the East side of Berlin called the wall, “Antifascist Bulwark,” this is because of they did not like the wall and thought they needed the freedom to go out into the world and not get in trouble for doing
