To be or not to be, that used to be the question. Now, the question is to believe or not to believe. In today’s society individuals are bombarded with much material on whether or not God exists, if He does then why are we here, what purpose do we serve, etc...? However, if He does not, then then these questions are still valid questions. Theist and Humanist have answers to the major questions of life, however, the answers to the questions may or may not intersect.
The Question of Origin
Individuals whom support Secular Humanism hold the view that God does not exist. Weider and Gutierrez (2014) states “Modern science is viewed to have the answers to the question of existence and any thought of God or gods is rejected (pp. 64).” Therefore, these individuals believe that our very existence can only be found around us; nature. To them, matter has always existed, and after some time, we just came to be. We are nothing more than a natural phenomenon. They feel that our existence can be best explained by Evolution.
In the Biblical worldview, individuals believe in a higher being. According to Weider & Gutierrez (2014), “Theism contends that everything that exists, including humans, is the result of God, the Creator God (pp. 65)”.
