Seaworld Should Be Banned Essay

SeaWorld should be banned due to cruel activities on animals like, the Killer Whale or otherwise known as Shamu. The Killer Whale is a massive animal and is adored by many because of its beautiful skin and size. In fact, the major reason SeaWorld was ever popular was because of this whale but the organization does not show the same compassion that many of the audience gives towards these animals. There are many reasons to show why SeaWorld should be closed down for good.

One reason why is because of how these killer whales are captured in harsh conditions. For example, according to Dr.Newby “ Young calves were torn from their mothers inside the pens using speedboats and nets.” This is horrible for the Orca Family but also for the capturers. For the people that capture these orcas they have to live, knowing that they pretty much kidnapped a baby from its family. For the Orca family you can tell how badly they are hurt because “While being surrounded the orcas cried for help.” This is very sad due to the fact that these parents are crying for help to save their children only to get their babies taken away. No baby or animal should have to live with the harsh reality that they were taken from their family.

Another reason SeaWorld should be closed are the living pools.

The space given for these 8,000 pound animals is “very small and often compared to our bathtub.” Killer Whales swim mostly all day, swimming at least 100 miles a day. In Captivity these whales cannot swim this far no matter the laps. When a whale gets older they are punished even further. For example, according to the movie Blackfish when they get older they became larger and “no longer wanted to enter their pools.” Due to them not wanting to enter their pools the trainers would starve them. They would only feed them if the whales entered their pools

cage.

The third and last reason for why SeaWorld should be shut down is the lack of knowledge and credibility. For example http://www.seaworldofhurt.com has stated that “ trainers often have no personal education in biology.” It is now a known fact that you don't need a degree to become a trainer. This is bad for both the trainers health and the whales because the trainer doesn't know the history of an Orca. Now the worse of them all, the main reason SeaWorld should be shut down is due to all of its lies. In fact the movie Blackfish has stated that “most trainers are encouraged to lie to tourists.” One of the major lies they tell is that the lifespan of a whale in captivity is the same compared to whales living in the ocean. A collapsed dorsal fin however is not normal or healthy. In fact only 1 to 5 percent of male orcas have collapsed fins.

SeaWorld should be shut down for three key reasons. One of those reasons is due to how this beloved animals are cruelly captured. Another reason is the size of which these whales live and work in imagine living in your workplace. And the last reason is the lies that are being told to the tourists that travel throughout the world to see a beloved whale be tortured.
