Marine Biology
Marine biology is the study of ocean life, estuaries, and wetlands to the extent of marine life and environments. Remotely operated vehicles, underwater habitats, satellites, sonar, computers, fiber optics, and many more are all used in this field of study. Marine biology can prevent the effects of ocean health, planet health, human health, sustainability, biodiversity, research, and product development. The oceans being effected can spread around to the whole world and impact a wide range of people and land masses.

In order to become a marine biologist, a PhD is needed if you want to complete your own work. Working conditions in this field can range from a boat or a beach to a lab or an aquarium. The working environment typically requires an underwater habitat somewhere nearby to ensure credible research. Heat waves have become a larger conflict in marine life which is causing zooplankton and fish to migrate to cooler regions. The reason for this is the decrease in the growth of phytoplankton as a result of the reduction of nutrients in the environment. Warmer regions are less dense than colder regions, which are deeper and have better nutrients. Since the warmer regions have a lower density, exchange of water between the two regions was reduced. “Oceans”, the third unit from “The Habitable Planet” series, discusses El Nino and the discovery of a new phytoplankton, and how these effect human and marine life . This paper will highlight six facts from the video, emphasizing what they are, how scientists have discovered this information, and what makes them important. In addition to these facts, this paper will explain the term “positive feedback” as briefly mentioned in the video and provide an example of this process outside of El Nino. Seaworld is a giant marine life theme park. The greatest attraction to these many theme park would be those killer whales. In fact, these killer whales are the face of the park. As gigant as these mammals are, seaworld is keeping them in some pretty tight quarters. Mr. Jett and Mr.Ventre says “Wild killer whales can swim a hundred miles daily as they socialize, forage, communicate, and breed. In stark contrast, with little horizontal or vertical space in their enclosures, captive orcas swim only limited distances, with most spending many hours surface resting.” The animals don't have the freedom they need. Also when taking the whales out of their natural habit the whales tend to be depressed and not as heath in that situation. They need their freedom in the big ocean blue. Bring them into the small living units, breeding whales in captivity all for the entertainment of humans. At young ages the calves are taken away from their mothers on to a new seaworld park. Mothers of the calves have even been seen denying their offspring.

Imagine a lush underwater place. Beautiful structures colorful animals and places that would never have been thought of before. In reality that's not what it really looks like, really the ocean is a desolate place that is barren like a desert. Many marine species have been lost by as much as 49%.(seeker) A big part of that reason is because of coral bleaching which causes as stated above a decline in species that depend on the coral as there home. Coral bleaching is a serious problem that could cause problems for everyone if we don’t fix it.
In closing we have looked at the history, habitat, lifecycle and ethical issues of the jellyfish. And though the jellyfish has been around for centuries now more than ever its presence is being notice. Despite its simple anatomy and short life span the jellyfish has begun to take over the waters around the world. While both fields carry importance within the science community, I feel that both should be given equal opportunities to be explored. Prager also expresses that students should have more opportunities for fieldwork and research when studying the seas. She continues to express the importance of fieldwork to not only students in marine sciences, but in any field of science. The physical action of working and collecting data alongside performing observational studies has been proven to improve students’ ability to learn. Prager vocalizes that the discovery and uncover of the mysteries of the oceans is through the future generation of scientists. In my eyes, the money spent on ocean and space exploration should be equal. The general understanding is that the creation of life might have begun in the depths of the oceans. With a scientific background I feel as if the exploration of the oceans should be given more attention to the exploration of space. Marine exploration should be just as important as space exploration because this bias of funding is not evenly distributed within the science community. I learned that our actions here on land in terms of trash and debris management have a huge impact on the marine life throughout the oceans, as certain areas of the ocean are becoming dead zones due to our negligence and improper disposable of our debris. When I am out of college and finished with all of my education, I would like to become a Marine Biologist. I knew I wanted to be a around a scenic job when I was in middle school. I am so fascinated with what is underneath the water and all the marine life that lives in it. Ever since middle school, I have been looking into different jobs that work around the ocean that do lab work and in the field. When I came upon a Marine Biologist, I thought it would be an interesting job to pursue.

Marine biology is the study of marine life in salt water ecosystems. It can also be described as observing how marine species interact with one another. Certain species of underwater plants can affect the environment in which they are put in. Some branches of marine biology study the affects of said plants. There are many branches of marine biology. Many people tend to study dolphins or sharks, since those are the most known marine animal. Only 30% of the world's oceans have been explored. This means that by being a marine biologists, I can have the chance to explore parts of the world that have never been seen before. Not many people are willing to go through the dark places of the oceans. This is what I want to do, because I would be the first one to see what is hidden behind the veil of darkness.
It was at a young age that I fell in love with the ocean and the splendor of its biodiversity. It was when I gazed upon the magnificent blue waters of the world that I found my passion. At this young age, I decided that I would pursue a path that involved helping endangered marine organisms. Many conclude that I speak of the more common marine animals, such as dolphins and whales.
