The Change We Need Tragic events of school shootings and irresponsible safety precautions have been prominent in today’s society. People are not taking the right measures to make sure students and faculty are safe at all times. Due to recent unfortunate events, more safety is needed in schools to better save the lives of students and faculty. Ways to assist in keeping schools districts safe are; gun control, security on school property, and transportation safety. By forcing these ideas into schools and our country it will make a positive difference in the safety and lessen the chance of school shootings in America. Gun license requirements are another big impact on gun control. The government needs to be able to know which people are suitable to have firearms. By accumulating more information on soon to be gun owners “Lawmakers have been debating what information you should have to give the government to buy a gun, and what the government should be able to do with that information” (Tait, Amelia). Guns are giving away too easily without a secure background check, informing this would help make sure who is ready to own a gun. When the four fathers first created the second amendment, they were only using non-automatic firearms. The laws of the constitution were created not knowing the future of guns as being semi-automatic. Semi-automatic weapons such as “Rifles are designed to kill as many people as possible in a short amount of time, do not belong in communities” (Lasky, Steve). Banning semi automatic rifles will allow safety throughout the whole country and keeps guns away from people who are not properly trained. Things such as school security officers, security equipment, and school safety drills can all help prevent the chances of horrific school shootings. School resource officers can monitor schools and help keep an eye on skeptical behavior of people in and around school property. Out of approximately 74.6 million students in the U.S. from grades K-12 only “1.6 million students attend schools with a police officer” (Blad, Evie). Every single school should have a police officer on school property. This can provide for a responsible pupil to investigate suspicious activity and make sure everything is right throughout the school day. Security equipment secures all possible school entrances and exits. By installing security equipment in and around schools, office administration can observe who is entering and exiting the school at all times, “school security system must monitor whether exterior door are opened or closed” (Kennedy,
