Reading Chapter 6 made me imagine education on its highest level. I contemplated like being in a dreamland where schools were completely different from what we commonly see. Seeing the designs different from what we know makes me realize schools should not operate the way it has been to promote higher learning outcomes. The structure, the arrangement, the furniture and equipment must promote interest for students to learn best in order to eradicate some misconceptions about schools, especially among young learners. It’s the 21st century! Designing the school in an innovative way makes learning much more interesting. The building design enhances learning. Students given the right and interesting environment are better motivated and inspired to attend school intrinsically motivated to dig their own knowledge in topics they find interesting and thought-provoking. Looking at the different designs of school buildings like making them appear similar to a mall, a big company where you have all the facilities, where students can work and feel like simply playing or doing an interesting activity in a first class hotel or a plaza atmosphere. Students now work in learning studios, learning plazas, and home bases. They shift as needed in numerous varied extended learning …show more content…
Using methodologies like project based learning, inquiry, and problem solving, would be some best ways to promote learning in the 21st century. Making students own their learning and working with their interest will turn them into active learners and results-oriented individuals. In a well-designed building known to be popularly called school in the “past” are now called learning studios, learning plazas, and home bases. They shift as needed in several varied extended learning areas and collaboration zones. These include project-planning rooms, workrooms, and other breakout areas (Pearlman,
That broader conception of school allowed those schools to better support the students and address social issues that prevent students from accessing their full potential. This conceptual shift can only be spurred by a clear vision of “good education”—which then caused an improvement in their community’s education
As American’s we place a high level of importance on attending school and receiving a certain level of education. Across the world, the recommendations for attending school vastly differ based on the culture of the society. In America, we require our children to attend school until they are almost of legal age, push high school graduates to attend college and we constantly emphasize structured learning. Many children in today’s world lack many skills that would allow them to “teach” themselves outside of school leading to an increased interest in televisions, computers, and phones. Technology has taken away society’s attention away from independent learning such as reading, writing, and outside experiences. John Taylor Gatto’s emotional voice in his writing “Against School” has allowed me reveal my psychological voice regarding the educational system.
This article points out the flaws in our modern education systems. Students should enjoy school and feel as though they are learning important things in the subjects offered. The classes can be altered to tend to the interests of children, so they can properly express themselves. School should be preparing children to be mature, how to handle hard situations, and ultimately prepare them for their future lives. Overall, Gatto’s article has its flaws, but it can be used to help improve the education system for upcoming
From school buildings to supplies and teacher license requirements, life is very different for students and teachers today compared to two centuries ago. Today’s teachers receive higher education to learn the profession, and students learn new subjects such as foreign language, art, health, and science. After a long day of learning, most take the school bus home and continue their studies further. One thing that is similar between education in the 1800s and education now, however, is that children grow up to become well-educated, well-rounded individuals who are knowledgeable about themselves and the world around
So as to improve the K-12 education, the United States needs to redesign the high schools. The initiative by the president to redesign the high schools is significant in encouraging the schools to use the available resources. Schools together with their partners should take into using the resources that exist effectively. These resources are in the local, state and the federal so as to transform the experience in the high schools for the youth through energy of the whole school redesign. This effort of redesigning the high schools will help challenge them and their partners in rethinking learning and teaching. These reforms should constitute of learning that is personalized and college and career exploration that will ens...
Would you consider going to a school where you learn year-round? Maybe this would be your ideal school, but, when would you get to have some time to go to summer camp, or get a summer job, or play a sport with games during the day? Schools with the traditional schedule may actually be a better choice, and not just because kids love summer break. Schools should have a traditional school year schedule instead of a year round schedule because there isn’t a significant difference between the students’ performance, and year round schedules make planning family vacations hard, make the teachers’ job more difficult, and are more expensive. Also, having a summer break allows kids to participate in activities that they would not be able to do on a year round schedule due to the shorter breaks.
What do you think about going to school year round with little breaks here and there, but not your traditional three month summer break? Year round schooling has been a decision argued with the government, teachers, principals and parents. Many kids and adults like to relax on their three month break. Many students are used to having two week winter break, one week spring break, and three months of summer break. Overall, one three month break would benefit than having three-week breaks broken up throughout the school year.
Presents the results of a study on the effectiveness of computer-based integrated learning system (ILS) in schools in the United States. When we talk about education, we remember our teachers of elementary, middle and high school because they left their mark on our lives, and are who we truly taught things that even we , and we have to our knowledge, is that the main purpose of my philosophy educational. The basis of my educational philosophy pragmatism. The goal of education for pragmatists is the socialization of the individual and the transmission of cultural ideas of man to new generations. In this way, new generations have no need to repeat it step by step, the experiences of their ancestors (Riestra, 1970). The school must be active in developing critical thinking in the learner. This should not be a passive entity in the process of their education, you must learn to learn . The school must prepare students for this interaction with their environment that is always changing.
During early years of life, children undergo several developmental changes. Their logical reasoning, attention, perspectives, skills begin to develop. When children go to the elementary school, they begin to integrate knowledge from their interactions with parents and teachers in order to confront the academic challenge. Some children successfully achieve their academic goals; however, some children fail to meet this challenge, which can have a long-lasting negative impact on their success in the school context (Supplee al et., 2006). Thus, parents and school are critical for academic performance and personal development. In a long time, families were responsible for preparing their children with the necessary skills in the early years, and schools took over from there with little input
Finally, Holt believes the best thing for children is to eliminate school curriculum altogether. In my opinion, many schools have incorporated many of Holt’s solutions into their curriculum. However, Holt’s illustration of what he believes is a real student is in fact is biased, and often factually incorrect. He fails to see the importance of formal education and instead shames the system that helped lead him to get a degree at one of America’s finest universities. A formal education is a vital part of an independent society. When the people of a nation are well educated, they shape the ways to being
Public School Systems are cheating American kids out of an education. A high school diploma indicates what students learn in achieving it, but in reality students have been learning and earning greatly less as the years have gone by. As a former public school student myself, I know we are not given the same opportunities are students in private schools. Public school students have been told that the reason our education is limited is because of funding but in the video it states that public school spend more money than private schools and still not have a better outcome. More money hasn’t improved schools. So, what’s the real problem?
Education serves as the foundation to a lifetime of learning. Since every child is unique, I believe that it is important for them to learn in an environment that is both secure and stimulating. By creating this type of atmosphere, the students will be able to realize their intelligence and use it constructively. As a future educator, it will be my goal to establish a classroom that is, 1) non-authoritarian, 2) student-centered, and 3) focused around student experience. These three elements are part of Progressivism, the educational philosophy I plan to incorporate in my classroom.
Going to school and getting a great education is important for a successful future in today’s world. Years ago, many children did not go to school and many young adults opted to work instead of attending college. In today’s society, gaining a high level of education is almost always mandatory for many jobs. There are many changes being done to the education system along with new items and ways of teaching in the classroom. There is a growing amount of changes in the classroom such as technology, teaching time, teaching styles, and freedom of space.
