I believe that the word “believe” has no final destination and absolutely no limitations as to where, when, or how it can be used. There are hundreds of thousands of ways to believe and things to believe in which is why I say that this word is limitless- whether that thing is something that clearly doesn’t exist such as Santa Claus, or something/someone that may be true or real but cannot be necessarily proven such as God. I also believe that it is possible to change beliefs. When I was a little girl I was so certain that the Easter Bunny was real. My mother always played off every child-friendly holiday a little too well; I actually believed in Santa until I was probably twelve and I only stopped believing because I caught my parents red handed placing gifts under the tree for my siblings and I labeled “From: Santa”. …show more content…
It sounds crazy now, but back then I loved the thought of a random man-sized bunny rabbit coming in my house to bring me gifts and candy. I’m not sure when exactly I stopped believing in these holiday mascots other than Santa, but the point is that I did then, and do not now. Thus, I changed my belief. A belief can be a number of things including a religious creed, a system of ethical, moral, or philosophical values, or a dedication to a social cause such as justice. So what is your most cherished belief? What belief governs the way you live your life? Is there any particular belief you would die for such as sacrificing your life in war? In high school, I took a psychology class one semester and one day we were on the topic of beliefs when the teacher asked us all a question that to this day I have a hard time answering for myself which was, “why do you believe what you
belief is not to produce true belief. Instead theistic belief allows the believer to avoid
My life is governed by the beliefs of the Christian faith. The teaching of Christianity is the driving force that gives me confidence, hope and self-acceptance through God’s unconditional love. God’s love enables me in faith
Beliefs are imprinted in our consciousness that alters our perceptions, attitudes and how we react towards situations and moments of decisions, they perceive our realities. Everyone has a different imprints and perceive their beliefs from their personal experiences. Beliefs dictate how we react to life. Our beliefs can be altered and changed throughout the course of our lifetime
Is Santa truly a secular figure or is he a religious one? This has been a long-standing argument. However, instead of viewing Saint Nick as either secular or religious, it would be more beneficial to examine him as a figure consisting of both religious and secular elements. It is true that the contemporary Santa Claus may be more associated with secular concepts, such as consumerism, but it is also crucial to emphasize the origins of the jolly old man. He is the product of Western Christianization. It is thought that he was created from a combination of the historical figure of Saint Nicholas, a Christian saint, who was known for giving gifts, and the fictional character of Father Christmas from British folklore (CITE). Santa Claus can be viewed
The Proof of the Existence of God There are many arguments that try to prove the existence of God. In this essay I will look at the ontological argument, the cosmological. argument, empirical arguments such as the avoidance of error and the argument from the design of the. There are many criticisms of each of these that would say the existence of God can’t be proven that are perhaps.
Belief is what someone accepts as true or false in reality and is typically formed by someone’s past experiences. Religion, monsters, or global warming are all examples of ideas people believe in.
...was no going back and no untangling; Kriss Kringle was Santa Claus was St. Nicholas and still is” (Myers 320).
The Moral Argument for the Existence of God Kant did NOT put forward a moral argument and anyone who said he does is wrong!!!! Kant rejected all attempts to argue from the world to God, he regarded such an exercise as impossible. However he thought that God was a POSTULATE of practical reason. If you share Kant’s assumptions, then it becomes necessary to assume that there is a God.
Truth, what is truth? This question itself has a thousand answers, no person can ever be sure of what truth is rather, truth can be justified, it can checked for reliability with strong evidences and logic. If the evidence proves to be accurate then it can be established that a certain answer is the truth. However, have we ever tried to think about what intrigues us to seek the truth? To think about a question and set foot firmly on the path of knowledge. Definitely it has! That was the very cause itself which is why this world has witnessed some of the greatest philosophers like Aristotle, Plato and Socrates etc. along with the school of thought. The ability to think and reason is one of the greatest ability humans have, it is what distinguishes us from the animals. It is what gives us free will, the ability to control our own outcomes. However, it is that ability to ‘think’ itself which has caused men to rebel with the myths and statements established about the unseen and natural forces since the beginning of time. It gave rise to questions such as: Do aliens exist? Is there a world of the unseen? Life after Death and the most popular question since the beginning of times, Does God exists? And the answer is ‘yes’. Here is how I will justify my stance.
“Are you believing in Santa Claus?” Have you asked this question to someone? Children would say “Yes,” but adults would say “No.” This is because children believe that Santa Claus gives them a lot of gifts on Christmas day, but adults know the gifts are given by their parents. Christmas is the most popular holiday all over the world, and most families get together and spend time on dinner in the United States. Children enjoy everything such as Santa Claus and reindeer as reality, but adults just have fun with an atmosphere of the event through Christmas songs and illuminations. What makes the difference between them? The answer is believing in Santa Claus or not. However, even though adults know the man is not real, all people should believe in Santa Claus. Believing in Santa Claus gives everyone benefits such as developing children’s creativity and more enjoyment of Christmas for adults.
So you don’t believe in Santa Claus. It’s understandable. We find ourselves in an age of pure skepticism. We question everything. Science has taken hold of our lives, providing answers for all questions and dismissing anything that cannot be explained as either myth or fiction. So it’s quite understandable why you don’t believe, with no physical proof of his existence. It’s indeed understandable to lose sight of Father Christmas with the transformation of this holiday into one that, as of late, is used commercially as a lucrative crutch solely to make profit. It’s understandable to abandon Santa Claus after hearing countless people deny his very physical or even spiritual existence. After all, one tends to believe something if it is repeatedly reported as true. But, let me tell you something, something that may lead you to quite a spectacular, fulfilling life.
God can be defined as a being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator and ruler of the universe, the principal object of faith and worship in monotheistic religions (1). There are many people that do not believe in any religion. People who do not believe in a religion have no reason for believing in a God. People who do not believe in a God and argue against the existence of God are proving something that is completely false. There is a God for numerous reasons.
Firstly, by continually corrupting our children with these lies we are breaking the foundations of trust within the family. Trust plays a vital role in a family, an invaluable gift that cannot be sold or bought, only treasured. Both Parents and children should establish and maintain a healthy relationship and share a unique bond together however this bond is threatened by the lies we tell. Kathy McKay, a clinical psychologist said: “The Santa myth is such an involved lie, such a long-lasting one, between parents and children, that if a relationship is vulnerable, this may be the final straw.” McKay informs us that an in-complex lie like the Santa myth could affect the family depending on how vulnerable the family’s status is.
Whether someone's belief is true is not a prerequisite for belief. On the other hand, if something is actually known, then it categorically cannot be false. For example, if a person believes that a bridge is safe enough to support him, and attempts to cross it, but the bridge then collapses under his weight, it could be said that he believed that the bridge was safe but that his belief was mistaken. It would not be accurate to say that he knew that the bridge was safe, because plainly it was not. By contrast, if the bridge actually supported his weight, then he might say that he had believed that the bridge was safe, whereas now, after proving it to himself, he knows it was
For me this time would not be complete without the big man in the bright red suit. I did not know any other kid who did not believe at the time, but when I got a little older, the possibility of a child not believing in Santa was more possible to me. I realized that there were many children out in the world who had hard home lives, and did not receive presents every year the way I did. Then there where some who had entirely different religions and partook in different traditions and holidays than Christmas. Shortly after that the realization hit that Santa was a made up character, but by than I was old enough to not be too disappointed.
