Rational for study: The purpose of this study is to create an app for young women in same sex relationships find and learn about safety planning when face with dating violence. This study is difference from other studies for it wants to find an app that can be put on individuals in same sex relationships’ phone, that can be easily accessible and can go unnoticed if they abuser goes through the person’s phone. Even though existing research show that women in same-sex relationship report more often than women is a heterosexual relationship do. The amount of research findings focusing on same-sex relationships, also same-sex relationship violence is even more of a smaller number. The need to further advocate against domestic violence especially same-sex violence is emense. Safety planning is an important tool needed for abused women to identify the risk of the increase of violence, their priorities, and resources that are available to them in order to protect themselves. Safety planning is one of them most helpful strategic to reduce the repeat of violence. Students interested contact the staff through a confidential email or phone number, the investigator determines eligibility through the method on how the student contacted the investigators, verbal informed consent was taken from all eligible participants after a detailed explanation about the purpose, benefits, and risks of the study. Individual interviews were scheduled either face to face in a safe private location or by phone, chosen by the participant. Verbal informed consent was taken again at the start of the interview, and participants gave permission to audio record the interview. Then the participants were provided an username and password to access the app, and given information about the app for instance resources that are in the app. Participant just needed to go through the app at their convenience and give their opinion on the app. Written consent and papers with the app information on it were given to every participant but all had the choice to take it or leave it behind, in case participants were in a domestic violent relationship. Any participants during this research project that told the investigators they were currently in an abusive relationship, were given referrals to intimate partner advocate
The article I chose for my popular press critique is called; Same sex domestic violence epidemic is silent by Maya Shwadyer. The reason why I chose this article was to learn why or how same domestic violence happens and I can give my friend/family help if they become in this situation. The article examines many cause and effects concepts of relationship violence and how to seek an end of abusive relationships. The three main points identified in this essay are, understanding what is relationship violence, intimate violence, defining homosexual and bisexual, causes and effects of same sex violence ( emotionally, physically, and cognitively.

“And they lived happily ever after...” Little girls all over the world desire their love story to follow the path of these six promising words; but unfortunately for many young dreamers, this fairy tale finale becomes just the opposite of what they crave. These little girls grow up to become young women, and one out of every four will experience some sort of domestic violence in her lifetime. Domestic violence is “the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and other abusive behavior perpetrated by one intimate partner against the other.” While there are occurrences of domestic abuse against men, women account for eighty-five percent of all domestic violence cases (NCADV). Domestic violence against women is a much too common problem in the world today, but by raising awareness and teaching people to identify domestic brutality, the ability to eliminate the issue becomes a more realistic possibility.
In Canadian society, the numbers of sexually violent incidents in universities continue to grow. Every year, approximately 58.7% of first-year female students experience forms of sexual violence, a growing concern for universities (Senn et. al. Results). Women constantly say they will never be victims of sexual violence, yet studies show that one in four women have been sexually assaulted (Senn et. al. 2). Although sexual violence will never completely be resolved, the policies created by universities across Canada have proven to be ineffective when compared to student efforts. The headline, “Recession Causes Increase in Teen Dating Violence”, clearly affirms a causal relationship between the economic recession, and the increase in teen relationship violence. Specifically, causation can be described as one event causing an effect within a specific scenario. As you see in the headline title, a recession assumes the responsibility for an increase in teen date violence. Hence, with this headline we observe a cause and effect relationship.
During the 1980s and 1900s, domestic violence was one of the most unreported crimes that involve females and males getting hurt and dying. Kicking, choking, killing, and saying brutal or despise words that could hurt the victims physically or emotionally are considered domestic violence. In fact, many victims are afraid to seek for help. According to “The Domestic Violence Resource Center (DVRC), women account for approximately 85 percent of all intimate partner violence, with women aged 20-24 at greater risk” (Batten, par.16). Most pregnant women are at risk as well. “But underlying approach is still one that assumes the perpetrators are men and the victims are woman” (Haugen, par. 1). Moreover, both males and females believe that domestic violence is a solution to their issues.

The continuous irrational behaviors are considered to be a epidemic by most. Inner cities and even suburb areas endure constant acts of violence throughout each year. Researchers in the past and present examined the violence women endure on a yearly cycle. Because of the nature of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault we will be working with young adults from 18 to 45 years of age. DV does not have a gender basis, men and women are both abused within relationships. In this research paper Amy Homan McGee’s case study of domestic violence will be discussed along with research done that signifies that police intervention alone does not produce adequate results for the prevention of intimate partner violence. A case study was chosen in order to specifically focus on one victim’s story and highlight the intervention methods rather than the criminal act itself. This approach was chosen in order to examine and analyze multiple methods of prevention and intervention tactics that may help future, or current victims of domestic violence. The methods and programs discussed, such as safety orders and community coordinated responses, may result in women receiving sufficient assistance.
Domestic violence affects a large amount of relationships in the United States each year. As the times have changed, abuse has become less accepted as a normal occurrence, and society has begun working together to provide awareness towards violence in intimate partner relationships. “Problems of family violence are potentially the most destructive in our society” (Kurland 23). Domestic violence is a problem that begins in the home, and spreads to affect the world around it. Violence is present in relationships of all demographics, be it race, sexual orientation, or social class. No one is entirely safe from experiencing abuse, but if society is taught to recognize the signs it can save a life or even prevent abuse from happening.
Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is historically referred to as domestic violence. It describes a pattern of coercive and assaultive behavior that may include psychological abuse, progressive isolation, sexual assault, physical injury, stalking, intimidation, deprivation, and reproductive coercion among partners (The Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF), 1999). IPV leads to lifelong consequences such as lasting physical impairment, emotional trauma, chronic health problems, and even death. It is an issue effecting individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality or educational background. Eighty-five percent of domestic violence victims are women (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2003). More than one in three women in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime (The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 2012). Thirty to sixty percent of perpetrators tend to also abuse children in the household (Edelson, 1999). Witnessing violence between parents or caretakers is considered the strongest risk factor of transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next (Break the Cycle, 2006).
Psychological violence is a mental and emotional aspect of violence that affects the way individuals think. These psychological violent acts within an intimate relationship can incorporate expressive hostility such as verbal abuse, or embarrassment, and coercive control such as restricting access to transportation, cash, companions, and family. Further psychological violence could include intemperate checking of whereabouts with threatened dangers of physical or sexual violence, and control of reproductive or sexual wellbeing by refusal to utilize anti-conception medication, and pressured pregnancy termination. Sexual violence in intimate relationships, however, consists of rape, and unwanted sexual contact. According to authors Wandera, Kwagala, Ndugga, and Kabagenyi, sexual violent acts lead to reproductive health outcomes such as “heightened risk of HIV and sexually transmitted infections, gynecological and sexual disorders, pregnancy complications, miscarriages and low birth weight” (2015).

As professional athletes remind us on a weekly basis, domestic violence is a social problem which continues to plague the nation. Through stricter law enforcement, improved hospital reporting techniques, and nationwide education and counseling, this problem can be reduced. Domestic violence has many different names such as, family violence, battering, wife beating, and domestic abuse. All these terms refer to the same thing, abuse by marital, common law, or a dating partner in an intimate relationship. Domestic violence is not limited to physical beating. It is any behavior that is intended to overpower and control another human being through the use of humiliation, fear, and physical or verbal assault. Domestic violence is a very important issue in today’s society because it has such a profound negative affect on the abused, mentally and physically. Verbal abuse can be just as damaging as physical abuse. Verbal abuse is words that attack or injure an individual’s self-image, which eventually shatters one’s self-esteem. In this paper, I will discuss the many kinds of abuses against women, the reasons why women stay in these relationships, and possible solutions to diminish or reduce the problems of domestic violence.
Domestic violence is skyrocketing in our society. In the U.S., as many as 1.5 million women and 850,000 men were physically assaulted by their intimate partner last year, and numerous children abused by their parents. These sad criminal acts will continue to grow in our society, unless our community takes action to stop these crimes. First of all, the most important tool we have available against this type of crime are the authorities, which include the police department, hospital, and social workers. If they manage to work together as a team to make the whole process of protecting a victim more efficient, it will encourage victims to actually phone for help.
