I chose Samaritan Purse as my non-profit organization, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as my government organization. The mission statement for Samaritan Purse is as follows: “Samaritan’s Purse is a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through his Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.” The mission statement for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is that they “work 24/7 to protect America from …show more content…
They do not claim that they can miraculously cure every disease, rather they state they will do everything in their power to help and to prevent widespread infection. That leaves Samaritans Purse as the less believable of the two. Respectfully I say this, because they are a non-profit organization and do not have as reliable of resources as that of a government organization. What truly made me choose this company second on the scale of believability is that it’s hard to imagine this one organization can always successfully “serve the church worldwide.” That statement in itself is a huge declaration escpecially from a non-profit. I firmly believe that both companies are equally accurate in their mission statements. CDC really does work around the clock executing everything that they stated. Without CDC the death toll from diseases would be substantially higher; our world would not have the amount of information on diseases henceforth increasing the spread and in term the death toll. Without the research from the labs of CDC, cures and prevention measures would be almost
In 2003 alone CAFOD raised more than £30 million and helped development and emergency relief projects in more than 60 countries. One of CAFOD’s aims was to relieve poverty, to do this they needed money which is raised in many different ways. Family Fast Days in Lent and October raise the most money for CAFOD. However there are also many other ways in which CAFOD raise funds such as, 24 hour fasts, ad Working in Partnership groups, and Churches and Roman Catholic schools also raise money for CAFOD. Another way that CAFOD raises money is by working hand in hand with Christian Aid to sell products produced by Less Developed Countries at a fair rate.
but this was the best they could do. The search for effective treatments was hindered by the church as they believed that religion was the cure for the sick. The believe that Saints could cure by touch
The reason is they are impacting globally. I will not deny that coming from a third world country which is the Philippines, has an impact on my decision to pick an international nonprofit organization. Sure enough, my country has benefited from these type of organizations. Save the Children is impacting not just in a small scale, they are making a difference to the world. Moreover, this organization was ranked 26th and rated 4 star among top 100 nonprofit organizations around the world. That alone did not convince me, I dug
I also recently volunteered at the Cleveland Food Bank by packing lunches for under privileged children and sorting non-perishable foods for those in need. Prior to participating in volunteer services for the day, we were required to watch a video that explains the purpose of the Cleveland Food Bank and why there is a need for continuous support. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank works to ensure that everyone in our communities has the nutritious food they need every day. The mission of the Cleveland Food Bank is to alleviate hunger by providing food and support to community organizations that feed the hungry. Many people depend on the support because of their financial situation, life changes, and possible mental or physical limitations. The Food Bank acts as a storage unit and distribution facility for smaller agencies and organizations such as schools, homeless shelters, churches, and day
Most people feel that they should help the needy in some way or another. The problem is how to help them. This problem generally arises when there is a person sitting on the side of the road in battered clothes with a cardboard sign asking for some form of help, almost always in the form of money. Yet something makes the giver uneasy. What will they do with this money? Do they need this money? Will it really help them? The truth of the matter is, it won't. However, there are things that can be done to help the needy. Giving money to a reliable foundation will help the helpless, something that transferring money from a pocket to a man's tin can will never do.
A current social justice issue that is faced in our world today is people experiencing homelessness; this issue is a main focus in the Catholic Church.
The Center of Disease Control and Prevention has an emergency awareness and response page based off of a zombie apocalypse to help inform people on how they should be ready if a major emergency were to occur. The CDC has a range of research and information from heart disease to the worst, infectious, disease-causing agents. The CDC also shares information about how to prepare and what to do if a bioterrorism attack or pandemic were to occur. The Center of Disease and Control is a diversified government organization that has the main purpose of protecting the public against the serious threats of bioterrorism and dangerous pandemics.

...faith. Even though my friend lost his battle with esophageal cancer, he raised over $50,000 for the ACS with the help of our community, family, and friends. He wanted to repay ACS for what they did for him and wanted nothing more than to save someone else from what he was had to go through. ACS stayed by his side until the end giving him hope and support, and for that, I feel they are a remarkable organization.
...reintroduces an eradicated, contagious virus into a society where the majority of people are not immune to it. It could lead to deaths of some of the most-integral members of society while preventing a projected #% of these people from going to work, for multiple days due to illness. Additionally, those healthcare professionals who directly treat the immunocompromised on a daily basis could potentially spread illness to those whom they care for, as well as to other people whom they interact with most often such as their family-members (7). The risk of illness is not shared equally by all U.S. citizens, just by those vaccinated. The immunocompromised may be put at high risk for disease for the sake of the American public. For more than 130 years, The Salvation Army has helped women, children, elderly men, families, and addicts overcome hard times. The Gospel Rescue Missions also help anyone and they do not mind age, religion, race, origin or color. With programs all over the country, The Department of Veterans Affairs target to help homeless veterans and those who depend on them. Another organization is Feeding America, who are a hunger relief charity and they take the lead with helping with the homeless. They provide food assistance to 25 million people throughout the country with low income, which includes elderly and the youth. All across the country there are homeless shelters that provide free clothing and warm food; some shelters even have different areas for the men, women, and women with children to sleep. This helps to ensure comfort and safety to everyone. Some even find employment and medical services (Homelessness in America). There are some who still live on the streets and have no options, whether there is no room at a shelter, they have no hope, they are addicted, etc. sometimes the better option for some people is to resort to the

The reformation of the Charity Organizations didn’t grant relief themselves however they served as a resource to simplify the transaction of relief to relief applicants by: maintaining relief applicant requests, records of the aid given to them, and referring those worthy or unworthy to the proper agencies (Trattner, 1999). Their goal was to eradicate fraud and duplicity of services while also maintaining efficiency and treating poverty. The charity organization movement intended to treat poverty by enacting “friendly visitors” to look into each case and define the cause of destitution while also watching for overlapping relief. These “friendly visitors” and their investigations were the cornerstone of the Charity Organization Society’s (C.O.S) treatment; granting aid without investigation was like giving medicine without diagnosis (Trattner, 1999).
