There would have been a lot more casualties and the war might have been longer. Sam was a brilliant leader who led Texas to victory. This essay will be a biography of Sam Houston and will go into detail about what made him such a great leader. Samuel Houston was born on March 2, 1793, in Lexington, Virginia. His father served in the Revolutionary war. He died when Houston was 14, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t share his knowledge before he passed away. After Sam’s father died, they moved to eastern Tennessee. Sam became close to the nearby Cherokee. He learned their ways of life and their language.
