“I would like to be remembered as someone who was not afraid to do what she wanted to do, and someone who took risks along the way in order to achieve her goals” -Sally Ride. Sally Ride was the first American woman to fly in space. This is important because Sally Ride later became a champion for science education and a role model for generations. Sally Ride created change from being the first American woman in space because she was a national hero and a powerful role model to others. Sally ride was born May 26, 1951. At a young age Sally took an interest in science. She attended Stanford university, where she earned a master's degree in science and a doctorate in physics.
Amazingly Sally Ride became the first American woman to fly in space on June 18, 1983. While in space, Sally worked the robotic arm. Sally Ride opened the door for more women astronauts. Sally came up with NASA’S Earthkam Project, which helped students learn more about space. Sally was a mission specialist on the STS-7 space shuttle mission. A mission specialist does the assigned tasks of a mission. During her flight, Ride worked the robotic arm to help release satellites into space. …show more content…

The goal of Sally Ride EarthKAM is to provide students with the capability to take images of Earth from a camera mounted in a space shuttle and to use these images for investigative projects. Ride helped students- especially girls- study science and mathematics. We care about this because without Ride we would not have the EarthKAM project and we would also not have the impact of what Sally Ride
