If there is something we have in common with the people that have come before us, it is the path to adventure and finding peace. We are all born with a fiery spirit within us , full of vitality and mayhem that makes us so confused as we go on in life as to what is our real purpose. And yet it seems to lead us in a direction in our life making us reencounter certain dreams, symbols and archetypes almost like deja vu. That is the reality of coming of age. Many times we refuse to follow where our heart leads us which ultimately robs us of the opportunity to grow and find yourself. But how is that possible? How do you find yourself and your story in such a chaotic world? In Coelho's fiction fantasy novel The Alchemist , we meet the protagonist Santiago, a young boy just living life as a shepherd with his sheep. Coelho begins The Alchemist unfolding this concept as we enter Santiago’s world. Santiago is a lone , nomadic shepherd with a devout love for traveling by default as he did not begin to seek his personal legend right at the time of introduction,even showing no devout interest and intention of changing how his life is as a shepherd.(insert quote). Sheep are important symbols ,both figuratively and literally, as they are passive, docile creatures that are subject to not change. They follow their master shephard , Santiago in this case, with no questions just like many people do in this day and age.
