(AGG) Some people like Najmah have to survive on her own but the things that she did to prevent her from dying was a thing to remember. (BS-1) Before Najmah lost her family members and in her heart she was more responsible with her chores and she protected her family and friends. (BS-2) Najmah is making sacrifices that can put herself in danger. (SIP-A) Using resources to protect her. (BS-3) Although Najmah was deeply affected by loss, she has evolved into a stronger person. (TS) Suzanne Fisher Staples shows what Najmah did to keep herself motivated before, during, and after the loss of her family members.

(STEWE-1) A example of this is, “ Najmah’s disappearance from the kitchen also tells Nusrat that she wants nothing to do with her uncle--even if he take her back to her village---and Nusrat decides she most protect her in any say necessary (Staples 215)." Najmah wouldn't go back with her uncle because she remembered what father said “don't let uncle get anywhere near the land.” She does this by leaving the kitchen and getting protected by Nusrat. (STEWE-2) A second example of this is, “ He will take me back in force me to marry someone. He will send me away and he will take my father’s land (Staples 216).” Uncle wants to marry Najmah for her father's land, but Nusrat is helping her to prevent that from happening. (SIP-B) Preventing Uncle from taking Najmah back to Golestan (STEWE-1). For example, “Her kindness is difficult to accept after learning not to trust anyone these last week’s (Staples 199).” Najmah isn't sure if she can trust Nusrat to help her speak for the first time after the bombings and to help her not go with her uncle back to Golestan. (STEWE-2) Another example is, “ But I have no one else to trust and no other choices (Staples 199).” Najmah has to trust Nusrat because she is the only person that is willing to help her and she has no other choices.
