SORRY, it’s my entire fault.
I wish I had not done it. If I had been more sensible, the accident would not have happened; but it’s no use saying that now.
One day at school last term, we didn’t have very much to do. The teachers had all gone to a staff meeting, and most of us in Form 4A were chatting, joking and reading magazines. Vincent, who had to prepare for an overseas examination, was the only one who was working. He had a large Physics book in front of him and was making careful notes in an exercise book.
He looked so serious that I suddenly had a marvelous idea for a joke. I crept up behind him and quickly snatched his glasses from his face. The others in the class roared with laughter, as I took him completely by surprise. Even the girls over on the other side of the room giggled. One girl told me to give the glasses back., but I knew she was not serious. Everybody was enjoying the joke except for Vincent.
“ Please,” he begged, “give me my glasses.” He stood up and moved towards me. I turned round and threw them to Raymond, who was behind me. Unfortunately Raymond wasn’t expecting this and he missed them. The glasses fell on the cement floor and both lenses were shattered. One or two people laughed, but then the room fell silent. They had been expensive glasses with metal frames, and the lenses were tinted. Vincent had to wear them in the sun as well as indoors.
“ Vincent, I’m sorry,” I apologized lamely. “ I meant it as a joke…”
Vincent didn’t reply.
I’ll help you buy a new pair,” I promised. But he wasn’t listening to me. If he had been angry, it would have been better; but by ignoring me, he made me feel very small. I didn’t know what to do.
A lot of us in Form Four came to school by bicycle or motorbike. Vincent had a motorbike, given to him by his father. I was rather jealous, because I came on an old bicycle, the same one that I had been using since I was in Form Two. After school I saw Vincent go to the stand by the gates, pull out his motorbike, get on it and ride off alone. I felt extremely sorry about what I had done, but I thought that if I could find enough money for a new pair of glasses we might be friends again.
...ut falls the letter from her imaginary family. She realizes that she no longer needs or believes in that fantasy and quickly crumbles it up and throws it away. On the drive back, Christine dons a pair of smudged amber tinted sunglasses. “When I put them on, they turned the world yellow as an old photograph.” (P239) Even though the glasses are smudged, the yellow world Christine sees represents her newfound happiness.
"'Got to [give back the glasses]? Who says?' Ralph’s temper blazed out. 'I say! You voted for me for chief. Didn’t you hear the conch? You played a dirty trick—we’d have given you fire if you’d asked for it—' The blood was flowing in his cheeks and the bunged-up eye throbbed. 'You could have had fire whenever you wanted. But you didn't. You came sneaking up like a thief and stole Piggy’s glasses!'
Constantly throughout the short story, Robert defies the narrator’s original portrayal of what he believes is a stereotypical blind man. “He also had a full beard. But he didn’t use a cane and he didn’t wear dark glasses. I’d always thought dark glasses were a must for the blind” (Carver 36). Robert also starts to change the narrator’s perception of blind people not only physically but emotionally. In an act of thoughtful accommodation, the narrator begins to describe to Robert the cathedrals on the television when the speaker of the program halts the commentary. Robert starts to slightly and gradually change the perspective that the narrator sees blind people from until the conclusion of the story when Robert shines a light on the

As the dull scent of chalk dust mixes imperceptably with the drone of the teacher's monotone, I doodle in my tablet to stay awake. I notice vaguely that, despite my best efforts in the shower this morning after practice, I still smell like chlorine. I sigh and wonder why the school's administration requires the students to take a class that, if it were on the Internet, would delight Mirsky (creator of Mirsky's Worst of the Web), as yet another addition to his list of worthless sites. Still, there was hope that I would learn something that would make today's first class more than just forty-five wasted minutes... It wouldn't be the first time I learned something new from the least likely place.
When the three branches were created so were the checks and balances providing equal power to all of the branches. The legislative branch is composed of Congress, which is made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Firstly, there are many ways that the judicial branch checks on the executive branch. Congress, as a whole, can overturn a President’s veto by having a two-thirds majority from both houses if they decide that the President is wrong. Congress can also impeach the President in office. Also the Senate alone has the power to reject any treaties that are proposed by having two-thirds majority, as well as reject any
The Federal Budget Deficit is the amount of money that the government loses each year by spending more than they get back in taxes. The Federal Debt is the accumilation of the federal deficit over the years. Presidents Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge are the onky presidents to ever reduce the federal debt. Today the federal debt is about $21.16 trillion dollars.
I walked up the long, stone stairs of Hidden Oaks Middle School. Middle school students were walking up the stairs alongside me and talking with each other. I joined this math club because I wanted to fit in and make new friends. We opened the doors and walked through the long hall filled with posters and works of students. We walked into Mrs. Janasky’s room. I sat down next to my sister and talked with her. The teacher handed us a piece of paper covered in math problems.
There are different types of debt, although they all contribute towards the country’s status just the same. One of the most common types of debt Americans have is personal debt. This type of debt is the result of purchasing assets with values that diminish over time. Said assets include: new cars, clothes, furniture, and credit card purchases – short-term pleasures. Investment debt, however, is one of the more acceptable types of debt. This kind of debt results from borrowing to fund companies, education, or even homes – assets that will likely increase in value over time. Of course, both types of debts are equally difficult to repay. Debt ranges from mortgage payments, ca...
The United States’ national debt is $18 trillion and increases $16,692 every second (“National”). This debt amounts to $56,704 per citizen (“National”). The government plans to spend $3.9 trillion in the year 2015 (“Federal”). This money comes from taxpayers. When the government does not raise enough revenue to cover their budget, the U.S. Treasury borrows more funds. The government creates many problems for the United States when they spend money that increases the national debt. The most important problem in the United States is the government’s financial spending.
After class started, Mr. Griffin walked in, immaculate, and on time as usual, and asked for the homework. Most students had passed theirs in, but Mr. Griffin persisted in bothering those w...
Espionage is an old ancient craft; it has been used through out history. The Bible’s book of Joshua (The Old Testament) states that the leaders secretly sent out spies to reconnoiter a country. Also the Chinese Military theorist Sun Tzu’s, who wrote a book The Art Of War written in 500 B.C, provides instruction for organizing an espionage system with agents and defectors also known as rebels. Homer a Greek philosopher who wrote “Illiad” mentions the Egyptians had a well-developed secret service and spying agents. During the middle ages Joan of Arc , the world renown female spy was betrayed by Bishop Pierre Cauchon of Beavais, As a result Sir Francis Walsingham developed an efficient political spy system for Elizabeth I. During the American Revolution, Nathan Hale and Benedict Arnold achieved their fame as spies during the U.S. Civil War.
The CI has been a means to determine the presence of espionage by citizens of domestic as well as foreign countries. Whether the citizens are private or military has been rendered as immaterial for purposes specific to CI. The implementation of counterintelligence by either by acts of espionage from a citizen source acting on their own or via a government entity can either hurt or help a foreign country or a private citizen. Espionage by a government entity on another government entity via the infiltration of an agent network will likely be of benefit to the underlying national population and in contrast, should CI fall into the wrong hands, may be of potential danger to a underlying national population as well.
Espionage is defined as the act or practice of spying.1 The term ‘industrial espionage’ , also known as ‘corporate espionage’ or ‘cyber espionage’, is the act of stealing trade secrets through the removal, duplicating or recording of highly confidential or valuable information in order to gain a competitive advantage. It is defined as the use of illicit means by more aggressive competitors to disrupt their rival’s operations or gain access to their sensitive information for a better competitive edge.2 While industrial espionage involves the theft of information for commercial purposes, which is obviously illegal, competitive intelligence is the legal gathering of information through conventional practices such as picking up scrap information through attending trade shows or through sources readily available i.e. corporate publications, patent filings and websites.3 Trade secrets are a form of intellectual property thus industrial espionage is most commonly linked with technology-heavy industries, especially in the computer and auto sectors where a great deal of money is splurged on research and development since technological change in this modern era has become a growing importance to business performance.
...e greatest prank in our school’s history. And she stopped Mrs. DeCostia from stealing from Mrs. Redrik” Then he took my hand and led me down the hall, past all of my friends, to the stairs. I stopped. “What was that for?” “I was just giving credit where credit was due.” He slipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out a rather large ring. “You knew the whole time?!?” “Yeah when we and Matt moved the desk it fell out and I picked it up, I was waiting to give it back until DeCostia got busted.” “Oh my god…” “Anyway, what are we doing tonight? Movies, ice-cream, maybe some pizza?” “We’re hanging out tonight?” “Yeah I have to hang out with my girlfriend to celebrate the undermining of our psycho home wrecking teacher.” “Your girlfriend?” “Yeah...” He said into my hair as he put his hands around my waist and pulled me closer to him “Who else would I hang with tonight?”
