“It starts with a dream. This dream creeps beyond others others of sinuous ordeals, beyond demons throwing side glances, beyond falling out of bed and into an abyss of molten stone, beyond slipping in traffic and being unable to get up as headlights swim toward me.” Pg. 132. Always Running by Luis J. Rodriguez is told in point of view by the author. It starts off as him and his family moving to East La. Luis finds himself dealing with girls, gangs, rape, and self harm. Throughout the novel we learn about his living situations and how he coped with it.Fiction needs to be included in the curriculum because it teaches students to be empathetic and to learn about situations and people they would not normally be exposed to.The message
Ella Fitzgerald’s song “A Tisket a Tasket “is based on a children’s lullaby, and a game that she turned into a Jazz song. As a game the children would sing and dance in a circle, dropping and picking up a hankie. Whoever won the game would get a kiss. The Queen of Jazz created a tune with a catchy rhyme with the simple words for the time period. Which was a time of innocence, a naïve world, filled with sweet notes that lull an infant to sleep. The year was 1938, what seems to be a song for babies to sleep, is really shadowed with death, fear, and a longing to be home. (Azizi Powell, p1)
Many have asked the questions of where to purchase the CompStat computer software application and others wanting to know where is this ‘computer’ in their current facility to allow them to have the same success in crime reduction as other police departments over the years. (Godown, 2009)
A prominent them in the literature of the Holocaust we have read in this class is the role of family and heritage. Many of the works we have read have dealt with familial relationships, cultural heritage, and the passing down of culture from one generation to the next.
“We organize and advocate to prevent and end homelessness, because we believe that housing is a human right in a just society.” They are similar to the national coalition for the homeless, but, of course, are focused locally, in Chicago. They run several programs and campaigns focusing mostly on community outreach and immediately helping those experiencing homelessness. They have a program that gives homeless legal education and assistance, and a re-entry program to help the recently unincarcerated find housing and jobs, as well as a general 'Jobs ' program, creating work for the homeless.
A root cause analysis is a systematic approach utilized to identify problems within an event and create a plan for preventing that problem from recurring in the future. To be effective, a timeline of the events are created to help identify those areas that may be the reason for the problem or event, and the relationship between the causal factors and those factors identified to be a reason for the event to have occurred.
The Criminal Justice System is made up of several different process law enforcement, judiciary, and corrections this system is where the accused individual are tried and punished for the crime they are charged with. The depiction of criminal justice system in throughout each process (police, courts, and correctional) has become ubiquitous on television today. Shows that give a visual of the arresting and investigation process (law enforcement) are the televisions shows “Cops” and “The First 48 Hours”. The show “Cops” is a television series that follows police officers, constables and sheriff deputies around during their patrol and other policing activity (Cops, n.d). Showing the officer enforcing the laws of the land, apprehend offenders, reducing and prevent crimes, maintain public order, provide emergency and related community services and more” (Schmalleger F., 2014). The “Cops” show conveys the initial stage of the law enforcement. The images or positive (in my opinion) when it comes to showing the actual community services the law enforcers provide. This allow police to become more integrated in to the communities. Reducing the amount of fear toward the particular criminal justice profession. It has change the outlook on policing in the communities and enhances the level of trust from the communities for law enforcement. This allows for a sufficient reduction and prevent crimes when law enforcement and the people of the community come together. “The First 48 Hour” is a show that shows the criminal justice process from the crime, arrest, to the investigation stages in the criminal justice process. This show follows detectives around from the state of their investigation (right after a crime occurs...

Hospitalization among adolescent females in an inpatient psychiatric unit is fairly common. However, little research has been done on the topic. This qualitative research proposal will examine the reasoning behind the effects hospitalization has on these adolescent females, between the ages of 12-18, after they spent some time at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital. Self-reporting, via interviews and questionnaires, from hospitalized adolescent girls will be the manner in which the data will be collected. Since the length of hospital stays may vary, questionnaires and interviews will be conducted upon discharge in order to keep procedure unanimous.. A general inductive approach will be used to assess data collected from patients.
The WIC program has an average of 9.17 million participants every month. Yet, there are many women who are not receiving benefits from this great resource center, and there are many women that are taking advantage and are receiving the benefits when they actually do not need it. I planned an informative trip to one of the many WIC agencies her in Los Angeles, CA. I visited the Van Nuys, CA location multiple times to get a chance to talk to recipients and even employees to get a better view of the program.
This course is in its twilight, and I wanted to share some thoughts with you right before the screen goes down.
Back in Greek mythology, Nessus was a centaur that was killed by Hercules for trying to kidnap his beautiful wife. As Nessus was dying, he convinced Hercules’s wife to take his poisoned garment to prevent Hercules from ever leaving her. It wasn’t long before Hercules’s wife presented Hercules with Nessus’s garment, poisoning him to die in torment. Today, Nessus is a popular vulnerability scanner that detects security vulnerabilities. It was introduced as an open source project more than 13 years ago and later evolved to a commercial product that is now managed by Tenable Network Security. It is known as one of the best and most widely used vulnerability scanners in the world, due to its rich feature set and profound benefits. If UMUC is looking for a robust, inexpensive vulnerability scanner solution, Nessus 5.2.1 is definitely the way to go.
The Target breach which is said to be the second-largest retail cyber-attack in history wasn’t necessarily inventive, nor did it appear destined for success, yet hackers were able to access roughly 40 million customers personal information by installing a malware into Target’s security system.1 In the days leading up to Thanksgiving 2013 the hackers installed malware in Target’s security and payments system which was designed to steal every credit card used in store at over 1,797 U.S. locations. The data breach initially disclosed in December which exposed around 40 million customer’s names, card numbers, card expiration dates, card security codes and debit card pins were recorded for the hackers to see, although the pins were encrypted. After a later review Target disclosed additional information which later was said to be that roughly 70 million more consumers had their names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses exposed.2
Designers can have very influential impacts on people in the design field or not. Some may not know it or understand it, which makes design more successful in the real world. The profession of a designer can be hectic or turbulent one. They want to know what’s going on in the world all the times but each designer sees it differently, which helps design evolve. Designers know how to ask the right questions and go above and beyond to come up with new questions and new ways of look at things. In the end, this is what is essential in developing new design in society.
