Response
What is response? The third stage of the SARA model ‘Response’, focuses on the development and implementation of responses to be effective for issues identified in the analysis stage (The SARA Model-Response, 2017) Goldstein, (1990) suggests that once a problem has been analysed and identified a police officer will confront the ultimate challenge in problem-oriented policing: the quest for the most effective way of dealing with it.
Situational crime prevention is also referred to as opportunity reduction. That is making it more difficult for the offender to commit a crime; in this case making it harder to steal a bicycle or steal property from a motor vehicle. Situational strategies include controlling access to and improving surveillance

of car parks, and target hardening through education of the owners of bicycles and vehicles (reference). In response to the data analysed, a meeting was held and partnerships were formed. This involved the police, the local State Rail Manager, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), NRMA, Griffith City Council, a member from the local media, and interested local shop owners and carpark users. The meeting was in regards to what implementations could be taken to address, and reduce the immediate issues of theft at the train station carpark. Police with assistance from community leaders are to set up a stationary stand at the railway station, and in the main street in front of the Griffith Post Office.
These stands are to educate commuters on basic vehicle security, and the importance of removing personal property from their vehicle once parked. Police are to also educate bicycle owners on registering their bicycle with the National Bike Register. The National Bike Register (NBR)allows owners to submit their bikes information into a data base at no cost. This allows the police to identify the bike and owner when located (National Bike Register, 2017). It was agreed from all parties that the bike racks be moved closer and within view of the rail platform to discourage the cutting or removal of bike …show more content…
chains. The Manager of State Rail also committed to place warning/ reminder signs at the entrance and scattered throughout the carpark, to remind users of the carpark to remove property from their vehicles. Police committed to attending the carpark area with foot patrols during business hours and in particular between the quiet period of traffic 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Goldstein (1990) suggests that foot patrols increase community spirit and involvement and that foot patrols are more likely to interfere with a criminal act than a mobile patrol. According to the delegate from the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), the use of one-way screws to secure number plates to vehicles have been used in other areas of NSW where the issues of number plate theft have arisen.
A local shop owner in partnership with the RMS agreed to fund 2000 one -ways screws which would be part of the police initiated stationery information stands.
The representative from the local media agreed to run advertisements in the neighbourhood watch section of the local paper. These advertisements would focus on reminding the public on the importance of vehicle safety.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) was also suggested to upgrade the security of the carpark. State Rail in partnership with the Griffith City Council were going to seek costs associated with such a proposal for further discussion and approval.
Assessment
What is Assessment? Assessment is the final stage in the SARA model. Here the Effectiveness of the Response stage is evaluated, determining whether the issues have been reduced or eliminated. An evaluation process and impact process should be used to determine if the problem has decreased. If, however, the problem has not been affected, the assessment phase may indicate that something else might need to be done (Miller, Hess & Orthmann,
2014). In relation the too the problem at hand, the project was evaluated after six months. Results from the evaluation were based from police data from COPS and results from local insurance company claims made from May 2016 to July 2016. The results showed that there were twenty-four reports made to Griffith Police in relation to property taken from motor vehicle, and one report of a stolen bicycle. These figures reflect a decrease of 50 percent. There were no reports of number plates being stolen. This is an indication of the one way screws being a success. All 2000 screws were handed out during the two educational stands held at the train station and out the front of the Griffith Post Office. With police maintaining their foot patrols of the train station carpark during the week, it has ultimately freed up the officers time in taking reports and time in follow up of the reports in relation to theft and vehicle damage from the train station. The Insurance companies recorded a similar decrease in claims in line with the fall in police reports. These results suggested that; the education of the community through information stands, new signage and the media; changing how number plates are fitted; moving the bike rack, have greatly impacted in decreasing these opportunistic crimes. The NBR had a slight increase of bicycles registered in the Griffith area but it seemed that more education is needed to gain more interest in that area. Griffith Crime prevention were now going to get the local Griffith Bike Club involved in educating their members on the NBR. State Rail in partnership with The Griffith City Council are yet to have approved funding for CCTV. They will continue to monitor the results over a 6-month period prior to moving forward with the implementation of CCTV.
Allstate Insurance makes itself notable by employing a commercial that divulges a short story of the consequences that a distraught teenage driver can inflict while on the road. Its use of various visual and verbal elements makes the advertisement acutely effective since it seizes the audience’s attention with colorful and amusing displays, while alerting them to the dangers of uninsured vehicles in a memorable way. Moreover, the commercial’s tactful use of several fallacies serves to distract and humor the audience into being swayed by the company’s claims. In short, the advertisement combines all these tools into making an effective, persuasive, and interesting campaign.
From the moment of its existence, car insurance has continued to be a value and necessity in the lives of every driver. With the increasing number of people that are driving, it is something that simply cannot be ignored. And what better way to share various insurance companies than through advertisements and television? Amongst the numerous selections of car insurance, Allstate has proven to withhold a successful and symbolic campaign of television advertisements. Through the use of logical appeals, dry humor, and strategic plot lines, Allstate does an efficient job at drawing its viewers in.
There are a variety of ways counselors can use assessment in counseling. According to Whiston counselors use (2017) assessments as a tool used to measure people behavior. Assessments can be informal and formal (Laureate, 2013). One significant part of assessments is to evaluate progress between the client and counselor.
Situational crime prevention is an idea criminologists use in order to reduce the chances of crime initially taking place. This theory does not aim to punish criminals after the crime has taken place like the criminal justice system does, but however the opposite, it aims to reduce the chances of the crime taking place to start with. Ron Clarke (2005) describes this theory as an approach that aims to reduce the opportunities out there for crime, involving rational choice theory. Clark focuses on three methods within this theory, directing at specific crimes, altering the environment we live in and aiming to reduce the benefits of committing crimes.
In this assignment I will be analysing the purpose of assessment whilst demonstrating my understanding of the different assessment methods used. I will also be giving a brief explanation of my understanding of VACSR describing my understanding of what each element means and its importance when used in assessment. Furthermore I will be describing two assessment methods that I have used whilst teaching evaluating each method using VACSR identifying strengths and areas of improvement. Finally I will justify the reasons for using the two assessment methods chosen.
There are different principles that makeup the crime control model. For example, guilt implied, legal controls minimal, system designed to aid police, and Crime fighting is key. However one fundamental principle that has been noted is that ‘the repression of criminal conduct is by far the most important function to be performed by the criminal processes’. (Packer, 1998, p. 4). This is very important, because it gives individuals a sense of safety. Without this claim the public trust within the criminal justice process would be very little. The general belief of the public is that those that are seen as a threat to society, as well as those that fails to conform to society norms and values should be separated from the rest of society, from individuals who choose to participate fully in society. Consequently, the crime control model pro...
The new philosophies of problem-oriented policing and community-oriented policing have started numerous discussions. Throughout time, researchers have questioned whether or not problem-oriented or community-oriented policing is the most effective approach in reducing crime, disorder and the fear of crime. Researchers have built on quite an extensive amount of literature, in the quest of discovering the effectiveness of both policing methods. However, while researchers have argued that both policing method have proven to be efficient in reducing crime, fear and disorder, these researchers have also argued that both methods have the potential to fail if not implemented suitably (Weisburd, Telep, Hinkle and Eck 2010; Scott 2006; Sciarabba 2009, Kerley and Benson 2000; Mirsky 2009; Rubenser 2005).
The campaign was built on selling a single advantage of the car in each ad that was created. There was a consistent theme between each advertisement: the pict...
Situational crime prevention in some crimes is more successful than that of developmental. Situational Crime prevention takes an approach that the victim is responsible for implementing measures to protect themselves whilst developmental needs programs to be undergone by the offender. The two prevention strategies will be discussed in relation to burglary.
and abroad. This strategy follows the research that a little chronic offending criminals who do most the crime and will be punished to stop the crime. This strategy can be used with crackdowns or specific target of groups of people and or gangs. This can be used by giving those who follow the rules social service and employment opportunities, which is where community policing could come in and serve the community after the criminal activity has been targeted. This can show the police are here to help as well as fight crime and the trust of the community won 't be lost after the crackdown. Pulling levers gets positive feedback for its ability to use community service providers to handle problems in the community (Winship and Berrien, 1999). This policing model shows great evidence it works gun homicides(Mcgarrell and Chermak, 2003). This can work with community policing well, since community members would be able to point out the groups that needs to get targeted for intervention. Pulling levers is a special variant of using the main elements of problem oriented policing (Eck And Spelman 1987, Goldstein 1990), which i discussed how problem oriented policing could be used cooperatively with community policing. Community policing has had challenges in communities with high gang activity which pulling levers has had success at preventing gang violence (decker
What is pivotal in assessment is that it enhances teaching and learning; it is also the crucial link between learning outcomes, the content that is taught and learning activities. Furthermore, Sieborger (1998) states that assessment is a reciprocal process; as it is used by both learners and teachers to decide where the learners are at in their learning and where they need to go and how best to get there. The characteristics that Sieborger identifies to be contained in assessment are made up of: tasks, exercises, tests and exams, which are set and assessed by educators.
Assessment, in the context of education, was defined by Lambert, D (2000, pag 4) as the processs of gathering, recording and using information about pupils' responses to educational tasks. Despite some can consider that assessment is separated from the learning process, assessment is, in fact, an essential part of the learning proccess. Maguire, M. and Dillon, J. (2007, pag 213) pointed out that assessment is intrincately bound-up in the teaching-learning cycle.
Assessments are made after and during a strategic investigation. These assessments help to move from a broad or well-defined position and further investigate closer to the source(s). There are two types of assessments: General and Specific. A general assessment provides an overview while a specific assessment can disclose threats and vulnerabilities.
The question “how do we reduce crime” has been asked for many years. Numerous amount of research has been done on this topic to see if there are other ways to reduce crime. Reducing crime has been a heated debate for many years and continues to be an important topic to study. People often wonder if the policies that are currently in place even work to reduce crime. Statistics have shown for years now that the current techniques being used by police are not as effective as the some people might think there are. According to Weisburd and Eck (2004) our strategy for reducing crime has been based on the standard model for policing. According to this model, it can be applied to all people and situations as a way to reduce crime (Weisburd and Eck, 2004). Many argue that this model states that basic techniques can be used in all situations regardless of how much crime or types of crime there is in that location. This model has been criticized because it is too basic and doesn’t apply to every situation (Weisburd and Eck, 2004). Weisburd and Eck (2004) also found that this model had little effect on crime reduction. The goal is to find new ways to reduce crime because this model is not effective and it not working. Research has since found useful deterrents for crime. Although research has shown that many policies that are in place are ineffective, there are some other strategies that have successfully lowered crime rates.
The procedure of Psychological assessment encompasses psychological testing. Instead of relying on the results of one particular test, it incorporates data collected from other sources like interviews, present complaints, information from significant others, behavioural observations, and historical data. The psychological testing is mere administration, scoring, and interpretation of a particular test score (usually numeric) that gives us an idea of an attribute or characteristic; whereas psychological assessment is a logical problem-solving process, that can be therapeutic for the client and help them realize their potentials and achieve their goals (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2009; Hood & Johnson, 2007). The process of psychological assessment is more individualized, however psychological test involves an individual or a group administration (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2009). The process of psychological assessment is a complex procedure as compare to psychological testing (Weiner, 2003) that according to M...
