“Same Love” is a title of a song by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert. Ryan Lewis and Macklemore are classified as a hip-hop duo. Ryan Lewis and Macklemore send the message that individuals in homosexual relationships cannot control how they feel, and can therefore not change. Homosexuality is still a problematic issue because different groups in the society feel different about it. In the lyrics, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis lament about the judgment placed against people who are gay (Josephs, 1). The individuals are looked down upon and criticized for choosing a type of sexuality that is different from the norm. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis feel that there is too much pressure on gay people to be “straight” yet the same individuals that judge them preach that God is fair and preaches that everyone should be loved. Individuals should be loved regardless of their sins, but the “right-wing conservatives” strongly advocate against gay people and homosexuality. Mary Lambert joins in and furthers the message that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis communicate that she cannot live her love. The group uses scripture teachings to communicate that there is nowhere in the Holy books where the same-sex relationships were encouraged or classified as being correct. Instead, most Holy Books such as the Bible condemned the relationship and likened it to the Sodom and Gomorrah.
