There are many successful, well known poets in the world. Poetry is a very important aspect of education and life in general. Poetry is also very hard to write and understand sometimes. It is confusing at times because there are so many different structures and types of poems. A person who writes a poem is called a poet. There are many famous poets that are from England and one of the interesting ones is Rupert Brooke. He wrote a lot of poems and a book or so during his lifetime, but unfortunately he died at a young age. Rupert Brooke was a famous poet during the World War I era and wrote a poem pertaining to the time called “The Soldier”.

He later became friends with Winston Churchill, Henry James, and other members of the Bloomsbury group. A Bloomsbury group is a group of writers and types of artists who met between 1907 and 1930 at the houses of Clive and Vanessa Bell in the Bloomsbury district of London (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/70024/Bloomsbury-group ). Rupert Brooke was a popular man, but he did not have much luck with women and love. He did not have a very good love life. Rupert Brooke fell in love with three different women between the years of 1908 and 1912. These three women are Noel Olivier, Ka Cox, and Cathleen Nesbitt. Noel Oliver was the youngest daughter of the governor of Jamaica. Ka Cox was the one who anticipated him as president of the University Fabian Society. Last but not least, Cathleen Nesbitt was a British actress. Since his love life did not last, Rupert Brooke decided to go to England and travel France and Germany as well. When Brooke returned to England, he received a fellowship at King’s College. He arranged and anthology called Georgian Poetry in 1912 with Edward Marsh. Rupert and the Georgian poets wrote in an anti-Victorian style by using rustic themes and subjects, such as love. Many critics viewed Rupert’s poetry as sentimental and shallow, but they also said he reflected the mood of the time period, which was the time leading up to World War I (Rupert Brooke). During his journey Brooke wrote many essays about his impressions for the Westminster Gazette. While he was in the South Seas, Rupert Brooke wrote some of his most famous poems, “Tiare Tahiti” and “The Great Lover” (http://www.poetryfoundation.org/bio/rupert-brooke ). He returned to England shortly after only to be in the outbreak of World War I. He was enlisted in the Royal Navy Division. On April 23, 1915, Brooke died of blood poisoning from a mosquito bite while going to Gallipoli. Rupert was buried on the island of Skyros in the Aegean Sea.
