Run Lola Run or Lola Rennt in German, directed by Tom Tykwer and released in 1998. It is an expeditious-paced action-thriller film. This movie sought to be one of the most prosperous German films that brought back the brilliant reputation of German filmmakers on their cinematic excellence in film exhibition. This essay discusses the editing technique of the film utilizing a particular scene, that is, when Manni tells Lola how he lost the bag.
Editing is one of the most fundamental yet crucial steps in the composition and overall appearance or quality of any film. In this case the scene I chose, I feel the editing is fascinating. According to Internet Movie Database, Run Lola Run consists of "about 1581 transitions in 71 minutes of action".

On cognate parity, it has "an Average Shot Length of about 2.7 seconds".
The picked scene itself constitutes a portion of this total computation. Run Lola Run is an example of recent narrative experimentation on the worldwide development of contemporary cinema. One has only to glance at a directory of contemporary international films to get a grasp on the incipient trends and optically discern that playing with movie narration has gone global and among the included list is Tykwer's cinematic masterpiece.
On analysis, the scene picked was characterized with an outstanding continuity in cognition to the elements of shots, music and sound, space, as well as rhythm, pace, and timing. It must be recollected that the scene chosen is a series of recollections on what transpired and how the event occurred. Thus, the critical arrangement and synchronization of shots, sounds, and the rate of transition is an opportune place. Considering the kind of reaction or effect being exuded by the scene and expected to be experienced by the audiences or viewers. The editing technique

utilized on this scene is the cut-to-cut or montage sequence as one incident is connected with what the characters are verbally expressing. The scenes fall congruously on places as dialogs are verbalized at the exact rate. This was done to give the audience a chance to have a brief description of what happened. Utilizing montage sequence in editing primarily works and directed for a condensed cinematic description. To enhance the efficacy of this method and withal the mood as applied in the designated stage, background music was integrated. The actions were reiterated twice particularly relating the experiences of different characters. Editing cuts back and forth among simultaneous story strands. As the narrative develops, a more detailed and organized sequence is presented just to give the audience the consummate ‘slice of the cake'. This type of continuity was argued to be ephemeral. It explores on the potentialities of endeavoring something else like the "meanwhile" or crosscutting narration, where the editing employed a reiterated, partly covered continuity around the given time and space. For example, the conception of using the shots of the train moving were not choreographed in any clear-cut continuity as simultaneous action takes place. Cutting is so flexible; you can do so many things.
This is similarly apparent in the picked scene. The elements of style were very well incorporated in each frame, and the viewers can visibly notice it. The elements of style that are most saliently conspicuous to the viewers are compositional elements and editing. Interestingly, even if the film contained numerous transitions, the editing is plausibly more gradual towards the closing stages of the film. This is the antithesis standard or convention of most contemporary films as commonly characterized with more expeditious editing towards the finale. Even though the editing is flamboyantly blatant on this particular stage due to the montage sequence, the film editors considered the smooth flow of the story from beginning to culminate. The editing contributed to the a more pellucid understanding of the audiences in terms of the theme, characters, plot, and other components of the film. The essence of publishing is the cumulated series of scenes, shots, and other essentiality of film engendered. This was optically discerned all throughout the
presentation. In conclusion, Run Lola Run is an outstanding example of the rudimental application of different yet exact conventions of film editing. Looking over the genre as well as the plot of the film, it is, therefore, concluded that the expeditious-paced editing techniques are expected as the action is concurrent, and the element of time is paramount. An efficacious editing is quantified through continuity and being linear as manifested on the film's totality. Conclusively, analyzing film editing techniques by using identified segments depends on the structural information of the overall motives of the film itself.
Films are designed for numerous purposes, some entertain, frighten, enlighten, educate, inspire, and most make us think about the world we live in. This paper will be focused on the cinematic interpretation of the film "Stepping Razor Red X", the Peter Tosh Story. The way that a movie is pieced together by the director/producers has a huge impact on the viewer’s experience. Stylistic elements are used to help engage the viewer; however, without these techniques the viewer will most likely loose interest. In this essay I will be taking a look at a scene within the movie Casablanca directed by Michael Curtiz in 1942. Casablanca is a classic film that is reviewed to be one of the greatest movies of all time. This could be due to the notable quotes used throughout the movie, or its ability to follow a historic, comical, and romantic storyline throughout the course of the film. It caters to several different viewers, making this movie favorable to many. This scene in Casablanca uses specific editing techniques
Therefore, the distinctive visual techniques employed by the composer provide a vehicle for the respondent to understand the ideas and themes prompted by people and their experiences. Tykwer’s film, Run Lola Run demonstrates the effect of the distinctive visual in Lola’s exploration of the themes of chance and time, whilst Mackellar’s poem ‘My Country’ provides the audience with an evocative experience of the Australian environment.
"Every second of every day you are faced with a decision that can change your life. The difference between life or death can be decided in a split second" (IMDb). Run Lola Run is an excellent 80-minute German film written/directed by Tom Tykwer and edited by Mathilde Bonnefoy that has a four part "What if" style genre. The movie just throbs with kinetic energy mixed with a case of Monster Energy Drinks. It is so fast-paced that it is like a roller coaster that is unstable with each twist and turn. Run Lola Run will captivate your mind and spirit with beautiful and free form flashes of anticipation, panic, passion, desperation, hesitation, fear and fervor that when all combined is quite invigorating and will significantly exhausts its viewers. The formula editor Mathilde Bonnefoy uses to manage the complex rhythms in this film not only dazzles viewers with the pacing, but it also maintains an extensive focus on what Lola is doing and why she is doing it.
Another technique that was used quite well was the use of flashback . There is a scene at the start of the film showing the conversation on the phone with Manni and Lola . This scene shows Lola explaining to Manni how she only went to go buy some cigarettes and a man stole her moped , she tried to run after him but he was too far ahead. Not only ...
...successful collaboration of sound, colour, camera positioning and lighting are instrumental in portraying these themes. The techniques used heighten the suspense, drama and mood of each scene and enhance the film in order to convey to the spectator the intended messages.
”[1] From the above quote it’s fair to suggest that when answering this. question importance lies in the discussion of Film Language. The assignment will therefore look at the various Film Languages. The text that will be used is Macbeth[2] (Shakespeare), and Roman.

Indeed, it is through editing that a story gains clarity and uniformity. This also applies for this movie. For instance, by analyzing the scene in which Joker and Rafterman arrive to the encampment of Cowboy’s platoon, one’s can understand how editing is used to define the spatial relationships between shots. The spacial editing tries to introduce the audience to facts that are taking place in a determined environment. In particular, it is important to notice that in only few minutes, there are many cuts and different kind of shots. Also, the 180° axis shifts numerous time. The two main conversations that are present in the scene, first the one between Joker and Cowboy then the one between Joker and Animal, are filmed using two shots and the shot/reverse shot system. Also, in this scene there are many examples of full shots and medium close up shots. Besides, when Cowboy introduces to his companions the new arrivals, Kubrick uses an eye line match shot to present the members of the platoon. It is important to notice that to engage the audience and grab people's attention the prospective on the events, even if slightly, changes continually. As mentioned above, the editing is also used to create a dynamic development of the events. This is a key aspect of the entire film, in fact, the succession of brief different shots recall the chaotic and unfair reality of the war. Furthermore on a level of content, this scene
Eisenstein was radically more experimental than his contemporaries because in order to practice “intellectual montage”, one must be a practitioner of the avant-garde. Eisenstein’s theory of “collision montage” is that cinema never speaks through a single image, and the juxtaposition of several images act like words in a sentence, or parts of a character in Chinese or Japanese Calligraphy (Pg. 17, Eisenstein). Shots of foreign objects, or inserts, are not meant to contribute to a narrative but to deliver an idea intended by Eisenstein in the sequence. He also claims that montage films are faced “with the task of presenting not only a narrative that is logically connected but one that contains a maximum of emotion and stimulating power.” (Pg. 4, Eisenstein). A scene to illustrate this from Strike would be at the ending of the film where the putting down of the strike by the army is intercut with the footage of a cattle being slaughtered.

Sound is what brings movies to life, but, not many viewers really notice. A film can be shot with mediocre quality, but, can be intriguing if it has the most effective foley, sound effects, underscore, etc. Sound in movies band together and unfold the meaning of the scenes. When actors are speaking, the dialogue can bring emotion to the audience, or, it can be used as the ambient sound. Music is one of the main things to have when filmmaking. The use of Claudia Gorbman’s Seven Principles of Composition, Mixing and Editing in Classical Film gives audiences a perspective of sound, and, how it can have an impact on them.

...udience would. He would try imagine what they were thinking, and then when he started to lose focus and have thoughts of other things, he would cut. In this way he was helping the audience how long they are going to think about a certain thing. Ideally the editing of a scene would go unnoticed as it flows smoothly. This is the skill of a talented editor. They’re are many more with equally impressive artworks. The editors perhaps have one of the most vital jobs to make a good film. However it is through the contribution of all members on set to help bring the quality to a performance.
