If there is one thing that is accurate about films, it is that they are loved by an innumerable amount of people around the world. Because of the numerous kinds of films and all the different languages they are available in, it is not difficult for one to find a film that they enjoy watching. However, most people do not understand all the parts that form a film. In Run Boy Run the plot, the cinematography, the acting, the directing, and the different symbols all come together to form a heart wrenching, inspiring film. One the dominate parts of a film is the plot. The main plot of Run Boy Run consists of a young, Jewish boy by the name of Srulik Frydman. Him and his family reside in the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland, which had been invaded by the …show more content…
German soldiers. While searching for food one day, Srulik loses his mother, and he heads into the forest to hide from the soldiers. While hiding in the forest, Srulik meets a few different groups of people, but he consistently seems to get separated from them. Coincidentally, one day while hiding from the German soldiers, he meets up with his father, Hersch, underneath a bridge. While briefly conversing, Hersch decides that Srulik needs a new identity to go by, therefore Srulik then takes the identity of Jurek Staniak. After this scene, Srulik, or Jurek, keeps on moving. He goes from farm to farm, trying to find work and food. He faces many hardships, such as getting doors slammed in his face, getting shot at, being in a house that was burning down, and even getting one of his arms amputated. However, even during these situations, Srulik always seems to locate people who take him into their homes and care for him. By the time the war is over, Srulik is staying at a Polish family’s farm. Though he grew attached to the family and their farm, he ultimately ends up going to live at a Jewish orphanage to preserve his Jewish identity and roots. Another part of a film is cinematography.
In short, cinematography is the art of making motion pictures; which includes the photographic and electric aspects of making images. Filmmakers use cinematography for many reasons, such as: producing emotion, telling a story, giving off a specific look, and making characters. In the film Run Boy Run, the cinematography absolutely stimulated much emotion. For example, in the parts of the movie that Srulik was freezing and ravenous with chapped skin and a limp in his walk, the lighting is dark and hazy. On the other hand, in a scene in which Sruilk is dreaming about being reunited with his dear mother again, the lighting is brilliant and golden. The darker, hazier lighting evokes a melancholy emotion from viewers, while the brilliant, golden lighting evokes a cheerful emotion from viewers. Another example of the cinematography evoking emotion is through camera movement. Whenever Srulik is staggering toward Magda’s house, cameras captured each angle so viewers could see just how pitiful and ill he was. Then, when he finally gets to her house, Srulik passes out, and the camera cuts off to go along with …show more content…
it. Acting is also one of the parts of a film.
Acting, of course, is crucial to a film. If the acting in a film is unsatisfactory, then typically the film is too. In Run Boy Run, the acting is suburb. The actors did such an outstanding job that while watching the movie, it was almost as if I could feel what the actors were acting out. During the scene when Srulik’s hand got stuck in the gears of the windmill, his screams were so agonizingly real that I winced and had to turn my head. Alongside that, the chemistry between the characters felt genuine. The way Magda treats Srulik is similar to the way a mother treats a son. She cares for him so tenderly and passionately that it feels authentic to viewers. The relationship between Srulik and his friend Alina is another relationship that has chemistry in the film. Whenever they first meet, it is easily detectable that they will be friends, for as he tells her his ‘history’ (his made-up story about losing his parents and his arm) she believes and hangs on to every word. And, when they are forced to say their final goodbyes, I could feel the broken heartedness in the both of them. Another part of a film is directing. Directing is the containment of the production of a film. Directing is where the auteur theory comes into play. The auteur theory states that the director is the author of a film. While this might be true, Run Boy Run is based off events that happened in one man’s
life. Symbolism, when objects or facts represent ideas, is the last part that makes up this film. Symbols can be every day, simple objects; however, they have extra meaning behind them. In Run Boy Run, there are a large number of symbols. One of the symbols is the pair of shoes that Magda gives to Srulik. In the beginning of the film, there is a scene in which Srulik is putting on his socks and shoes, and they are very old and tattered. Magda presenting him with these shoes symbolizes his renewed strength, for because he is always on his feet, new shoes help him advance in his journey more advantageously. Another one of the symbols is the town bell that Srulik rings after the announcement of the end of the war. The ringing of the bell not only symbolizes the end of agony and terror for the many victims of the war, but also symbolizes the end of Srulik having to run as he had been for an extended amount of time. Because of the many parts that make up a film, such as the plot, the cinematography, the acting, the directing, and the different symbols, the film Run Boy Run is able to tell a motivating story about a young boy who had to be strong in order to stay alive.
In the film industry, there are directors who merely take someone else’s vision and express it in their own way on film, then there are those who take their own visions and use any means necessary to express their visions on film. The latter of these two types of directors are called auteurs. Not only do auteurs write the scripts from elements that they know and love in life, but they direct, produce, and sometimes act in their films as well. Three prime examples of these auteurs are: Kevin Smith, Spike Lee and Alfred Hitchcock.
The auteur theory is a view on filmmaking that consists of three equally important premises: technical competence, interior meaning, and personal signature of the director. Auteur is a French word for author. The auteur theory was developed by Andrew Sarris, a well-known American film critic. Technical competence of the Auteur deals with how the director films the movie in their own style. Personal signature includes recurring themes that are present within the director’s line of work with characteristics of style, which serve as a signature. The third and ultimate premise of the Auteur theory is the interior meaning which is basically the main theme behind the film.
In the book Always Running written by Luis J. Rodriguez we meet the author at a young age, We accompany him as he grows into the Veteran gang lifestyle. Throughout the autobiography, Luis, a young Chicano who survived ¨La Vida Loca¨ in South San Gabriel gives voice to an unheard cry and illuminates the cycle of poverty and violence of gang wars. His families instability and the discrimination they received due to their ethnicity gives him a desire to hurt others and seek understanding in a deviant way. Rodriguez speaks on many of the issues we still see in our Latino communities today, The lack of resources; financially and emotionally. He narrates his own internal and external battles to gain respect, belonging, and protection.
The movie Cool Runnings is about a Jamaican bobsled team of four men, Derice, Sanka, Junior, and Yul, going to Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. This movie based on a real story of the first Jamaican bobsled team in 1988. The movie tells the story of the event even though there are some things happened in the movie which did not happen in the real story and some other things happened in the real story which did not appear in the movie (Fleming 2008). However, the movie is very emotional and funny, and it gives the general idea of the Jamaican Bobsleigh Team.
In conclusion, Run Lola Run is an excellent film that incorporates phenomenal editing and music. If a viewer were not dazzled by this film one would be very surprised because it is a very compelling and breathtaking. The formula editor Mathilde Bonnefoy used to manage the complex rhythms in this film will not only dazzle viewers with the pacing, but it also maintains an extensive focus on what Lola is doing, why she is doing it and what of importance is happening in the film.
Cinematography, if used properly, adds immensely to the action and effects of a film. Thelma and Louise greatly benefited from panning shots, reactions shots, and dissolve. To the untrained eye these effects go completely unnoticed and unappreciated but to those who do appreciate them know that because of cinematography Thelma and Louise is a masterpiece.
I chose to view the movie Lion, a movie based on the book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley. This movie is about a five-year-old boy, Saroo, living in a poor, rural area of India. Saroo convinces his older brother Guddu, to let him tag along and find work in a nearby city. Saroo ends up trapped and alone in a decommissioned passenger train that takes him to Calcutta, over 1,000 miles away from his home. Saroo spent three weeks as a street child, struggling to survive and facing many challenges along the way.
Run Lola Run is a film set in Berlin , Germany. This film gives you the idea of running with Lola on her journey to come up with one hundred marks in twenty minutes to save her boyfriend Manni’s life. Tom Tykwer uses many film techniques that usually are not used in movies , making this film not like every other Hollywood movie. Techniques such as the use of flashback and flash forward , this giving the film an idea that just by one slightest move or event can change your move in different ways. Other techniques that made this film interesting and attention grabbing is the use of animation, cross- cutting, birds eye view and medium shot.
...successful collaboration of sound, colour, camera positioning and lighting are instrumental in portraying these themes. The techniques used heighten the suspense, drama and mood of each scene and enhance the film in order to convey to the spectator the intended messages.
There is a fine line between a good quality feel-good film and a film that tries way, way too hard to be lovable. Take for instance a film like Cool Runnings – a true story depicting the events that led to the unlikely creation of a Jamaican bobsled team. It had heart, charismatic characters, and John Candy. It tugged at your heart strings by sending a message that dreams can come true – and it made you want to laugh, cry, and even try bobsledding.
To view a movie, one must first produce a movie, and with producing a movie you have to make sure to have all the right pieces to create it correctly and well. Each movie has its own style and its own way of doing things, but in the end there is always a process that at its core follows the same pattern and the same way of doing something. In production there are necessary steps to follow and actions to carry out. It is a combined force that the notion of auteur theory doesn't hold true. Auteur theory is the theory that for some films there is a singular person or artist that is the driving force for the whole creative work, which in this case would be a movie.
First of all, the pace of this movie was distinguished from normal American movies whose plots are usually compact. The story was developed so unhurriedly and quietly that every subtle plots of the movie, such as complex emotion change and conversation, were enlarged clearly. Secondly, the fantastic performance of both two main characters enhanced the beauty of this romantic

each one of these of these elements could accommodate the filmmaker with the possibility to construct a world of realism, which the audience could be interested in, it could also set an atmosphere to the scene, furthermore, it could provide the spectator with insight or facts about the character or the plot. equal to mise-en-scene, cinematography is constructed by many instruments like lighting, framing, lens, establishing and others. all of these elements could be used to help the filmmaker to produce a visual storytelling. cinematography is a tool which filmmaker have used to move from one scene to another rhythmically, also could be utilized to support the filmmaker to manipulate the audience or the scene from one emotion to another, it could also be utilized to keep the audience engaged " In other words, are they still interested in the
