The examples that best support his claim are Harold Morton, Millie, Dr. Erlandson, and David Gonzalez.
This short story "Roselily" by Alice Walker is written as thoughts between reciting wedding vows. A paragraph will go by, and then a short wedding sentence will spawn the next paragraph. For instance, "We are gathered here..." and then the new paragraph begins. The central character is a woman named Roselily and the setting is in Mississippi during her wedding ceremony in an open house wedding. The central conflict involves the emotional dilemma that she is having about getting married and leaving everything that she has ever known. Other conflicts are race, having to give a child away (has 3 others), and religion. The whole time she talks about leaving childhood friends. Nervousness is one of her character traits and a good quote to show this is, "Her fingers at the last minute busily removing dry leaves and twigs. Aware it is a superficial sweep." She is hopeful of the future and what it has to bring her and her new family. Roselily also cares deeply about her children and thinks, "Her children at last from underneath the detrimental wheel. A chance to be on top." Anothe...
In William Faulkner’s short story, “A Rose for Emily”, the butler is directly related to the traditional values in the older generation. Because of his status and race the butler is not allowed to openly express his ideals like Emily is allowed to. The butler’s role is to display the traditions of the older southern generation. The butler serves his role thorough this story by being excessively loyal and protective of Emily, by fulfilling his duty as a servant, and by being racial discriminated against from people in the town.
In the short story "Roselily", Alice Walker tells two stories in one. The other, hidden story is the story about Black American women in general, their history and their ongoing search for something better.
"This is an island. At least I think it's and island. That's a reef out in the sea. Perhaps there are not any grownups anywhere."
Unattainable Love and Time Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" In the story "A Rose for Emily," the author, William Faulkner, recounts the life of a woman from an elite family in the Deep South. Emily Grierson is an eccentric spinster who goes through her life searching for love and security. Due to her relationship with her father, and the intrusiveness of the townspeople in her life, she is unable to get away from her past. Arising from a young woman's search for love, the use of symbolism profoundly develops the theme, therefore, bringing to light the issues of morality.
One may have heard the simple saying that “Love can make you do crazy things.” Many adults can confirm that the saying proves true; one could even spend a few hours watching CSI type of shows that portray the stories of two love-struck people becoming cold-hearted killers just to be with their significant other. Why would they be so desperate to be together that they would kill anyone who got in between them? Desperation so serve that they would even kill a loved one? It could be that as children they were deprived of love and nourishment that children normally receive. This deprivation of love led them to cling to anyone that made them think they were being love. In A Rose for Emily and Tell-Tale Heart a character murders someone who they love. The two works, share similarities and differences when it comes to the characters, the narratives point of view and reason for killing a loved one.
The Renaissance in Europe marked a period of extreme development and improvement that had not ever taken place before on such large scale and would reach as far. Everything during this time was evolving, improving, or changing in some way. Just because of all these enhancements on society occurred does not mean there were not ant struggles, Europeans during this time period encountered many issues and conflicts that would lead to wars. These conflicts fueled by the need for power, the necessity for land, and the desire for religion would redefine the political and social structure of the era.
In “ A Rose for Emily”, William Faulkner tells the complex tale of a woman who is battered by time and unable to move through life after the loss of each significant male figure in her life. Unlike Disney Stories, there is no prince charming to rescue fallen princess, and her assumed misery becomes the subject of everyone in the town of Jefferson, Mississippi. As the townspeople gossip about her and develop various scenarios to account for her behaviors and the unknown details of her life, Emily Grierson serves as a scapegoat for the lower classes to validate their lives. In telling this story, Faulkner decides to take an unusual approach; he utilizes a narrator to convey the details of a first-person tale, by examining chronology, the role of the narrator and the interpretations of “A Rose for Emily”, it can be seen that this story is impossible to tell without a narrator.
Adelina Amouteru, survivor of the blood fever, murderer of her father, ex-member of the Dagger Society, and ex-lover of a dead prince. From the death of her beloved prince, Enzo, the betrayal of her friends, Adelina is an outcast among the outcast, only that she is wanted dead by both sides. Unwilling to lay low, Adelina is ready to strike back, hurting all who ever dared to touch her, and cause misery for the rest.
Concerning the contextualization of A Rose of Family as a sign of the times of women at that point, where cultural norms of women lead to a life in domestication. The recognition of the rose here as it is carefully placed in the title of the piece as well bears significance to the physical rose and what it meant to the young women in the South during the 1800s (Kurtz 40). Roses are generally given as tokens of love and affection by males to females. There are even remnants of it today where young lads also profess their love to women with roses; women still see it as an act of endearment towards them.

In "A Rose for Emily," William Faulkner's use of setting and characterization foreshadows and builds up to the climax of the story. His use of metaphors prepares the reader for the bittersweet ending. A theme of respectability and the loss of, is threaded throughout the story. Appropriately, the story begins with death, flashes back to the past and hints towards the demise of a woman and the traditions of the past she personifies. Faulkner has carefully crafted a multi-layered masterpiece, and he uses setting, characterization, and theme to move it along.
