Ronald G. Spaeth has earned his bachelors of arts degree and a master’s degree in business administration. Spaeth has taken upon several roles in the healthcare field such as a faculty member, president, and chief executive in different types of institutions. Such as hospitals and programs for universities. With this experience it gives him the opportunity to see the healthcare industry from different aspects. He is honored for contributions and leadership in healthcare with the American College of Healthcare Executive’s 2005 Gold Medal Award.
Spaeth had many different strategies for keeping the healthcare business successful. The first philosophy was leadership styles. My leadership style is to find the best and brightest professionals, work

This would be effective because it can prepare graduates for what they would expect as far as job duties or daily challenges. This also, gives employers more reassurance that new hires are being fully trained so that they can work up to the best of their ability. Building a work relationship between employees can bring more value to the healthcare industry. As a leader and manager you should always acknowledge all of your employees, but most importantly the physicians. No hospital administrator can achieve much without the help and support of his or her physician providers (Spaeth, para 21). Physicians are the heartbeat of the hospital because they are the people that keep the hospital up and running, by treating patients for several different illness and …show more content…
One of the main issues would be restructuring the healthcare system completely. There are remaining balances from services that need to be paid, but no one has paid them. The workforce is declining with the lack of nurses and technicians. There are workers that are available and willing to work, but are not flexible enough to work weekends or night shifts. These are the shifts where the spots are still vacant. Hospitals who are short of staff should make it mandatory that all workers be able to work at least one weekend throughout the month or have rotating shifts. Some hospitals have people working as needed or PRN because it’s convenient for cost. PRNs could lower employment cost and makes it easier for the hospital to fill in vacant spaces because PRNs tend to have a more flexible
Denisco & Barker, (2016) discusses the foundation of leadership and the four conceptual pillars that comprise it. Understanding the leadership is a responsibility of an APN, the following final question was posed to Ms. Gordner. “Of the four pillars of leadership; professionalism, inspirational motivation, interpersonal relationships, and business skills, do you feel that one is more important than another, and why?” She responded,
This paper’s brief intent is to identify the policies and procedures currently being developed at Midwest Hospital. It identifies how the company’s Management Committee was formed and how they problem solved and delegated responsibilities. This paper recognizes the hospital’s greatest attributes and their weakest link. Midwest Hospital hired Dr. Herb Davis to help facilitate the development and implementation of resolutions for each issue.
The health care organization with which I am familiar and involved is Kaiser Permanente where I work as an Emergency Room Registered Nurse and later promoted to management. Kaiser Permanente was founded in 1945, is the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plan, serving 9.1 million members, with headquarters in Oakland, California. At Kaiser Permanente, physicians are responsible for medical decisions, continuously developing and refining medical practices to ensure that care is delivered in the most effective manner possible. Kaiser Permanente combines a nonprofit insurance plan with its own hospitals and clinics, is the kind of holistic health system that President Obama’s health care law encourages. It still operates in a half-dozen states from Maryland to Hawaii and is looking to expand...
(W. Lease, personal communication, July 23, 2010), the “unknown” of the recent health care reform legislation is an external influence that is most relevant to our organization, stated by William Lease, senior vice president of clinical support services. Mr. Lease states, that health care reform legislation will impact our organization in many ways; especially after 2014. While more employees will have health insurance coverage and there will be more patients to treat; the need for controlling costs and improving efficiency is i...
Nurses and others in the medical field are overworked and understaffed because the government has made cutbacks to the health care system. We live in a country where our health care is a privilege to have, but getting ill becomes a problem if there are not adequate facilities and professionals to care for the sick.
Formed in 1998, the Managed Care Executive Group (MCEG) is a national organization of U.S. senior health executives who provide an open exchange of shared resources by discussing issues which are currently faced by health care organizations. In the fall of 2011, 61 organizations, which represented 90 responders, ranked the top ten strategic issues for 2012. Although the issues were ranked according to their priority, this report discusses the top three issues which I believe to be the most significant due to the need for competitive and inter-related products, quality care and cost containment.
As I began watching Reinventing Healthcare-A Fred Friendly Seminar (2008), I thought to myself, “man, things have changed since 2008.” And as the discussion progressed, I started to become irritated by how little had changed. The issues discussed were far-reaching, and the necessity for urgent change was a repeated theme. And yet, eight years later, health care has made changes, but many of its crucial problems still exist.
...staff would not be required to put in the overtime to compensate for the lack of workers. Patients would no longer have to suffer the neglect of the staff because he or she was too busy. Making sure the patient gets the best quality care reduces the time spent for recovery. Reducing the time spent for recovery increases the organization’s finances. Providing a safe facility also reduces the expenses on the private hospital’s budget. Ensuring a patient is safe can reduce potential use of ongoing treatment and services. Hiring the appropriate nursing staff needed can save the organization money. Instead of cutting back on staff, more staff needs to be hired to fulfil the needs of the patient. In the economy today, private hospitals need to focus on the overall long term effects of each action opposed to quick reactions resulting in financial strain for the facility.
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
“Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and actions,” quoted by Harold S. Geneen. There are many different types of leadership styles that people around the world live by. I believe that people’s self centeredness is reflected through their leadership style. One of the main differences in the leadership styles between Smith and Bradford was the way that the viewed themselves.
Competitive advantage matters greatly to those responsible for the management of healthcare institutions. Together with rapidly escalating healthcare costs, increasingly complex medical technologies, and growing regulatory and legal pressures, healthcare organizations face a critical need to improve the quality of care at reduced costs (Cu...
When asked to state the primary goal of his business, Dr. Slez cited “high quality health care service” as the firm’s main objective. The effective treatment of, and development of trust with, the practice’s patients, Dr. Slez continued, takes precedence over profits. Indeed, if all healthcare firms placed profits above patient care (and many do) we would be far worse off. While doing what is needed to stop the spread of a disease or alleviate pain may not always be the most cost effective approach, it is the approach demanded by the government and general public. This is not to say that Dr. Slez’s firm does not try to maximize profit. The f...
Healthcare administration is a field that is often overlooked, but is essentially the beating heart of any healthcare organization. With more and more hospital, and clinics, and other healthcare organizations popping up everywhere there is a need for people like me to manage the day-to-day operations. I am choosing to apply to this program because I want to study how the U.S. healthcare system operates. I want to learn the essential skills of operating a healthcare facility such as managing a budget, reducing healthcare costs, analyzing the efficiency of an organization and proposing ways to improve it. This program is going to give me the necessary education and skills so I can carry out my goal of being a healthcare administrator.
Introduction Changing the way health care is delivered will result in improved efficiency as well as improved quality, overlapping responsibilities, and pressures will be the driving force behind the health care transformation. Consequently, health care distribution and funding will move from a volume-based payment system to a value-based payment system throughout the following decade. In today’s controlling and cost-effective environment, hospitals need to be more focused in their efforts to improve performance creativities, which are necessary for short-term success that will also continue for long-term accomplishments. Further, hospital consolidation will help decrease costs, improve facilities through modernization, expand and offer more upgraded services to patients, as well as combining existing strengths which will enable future hospitals to offer all-inclusive and more efficient care. (Noether & May, 2017)
Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power. Based on the definition of leadership, anyone can be considered a leader as long as they have the ability to influence people to achieve a particular result or goal which benefits the organization or group as a whole. Individuals with a secure sense of self and understanding, acceptance of diversity within an organization tend to be the strongest leaders that not only make others want to follow, but they also encourage other leaders to gravitate to their
