Ronald Reagan Speech Assignment In June 1987, 40th president Ronald Reagan gave a speech at the Brandenburg Gate in West Berlin, Germany. Reagan’s intent of this speech was to convince Secretary of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall, as it divided Eastern and Western Germany since the ending of World War II. In his speech, Reagan elucidates how he felt about Communism, the Cold War, changes taken place in Europe at the time and America’s role during 1987.
