Romeo and Juliet writer Dorothy Allison once said, “Things come apart so easily when they have been held together with lies.” When you lie, you can only lie so much until people find out, then everything just breaks and falls in an instant. Everything you said or did is now questioned, and you can't hide behind lies anymore, and these instances usually turn into consequences. It all could be avoided if they are truthful. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, these lies by two teenaged lovers and the Friar cause a string of unravelling events that result in their demise and ultimately Romeo and Juliets’ suicides. Romeo’s series of lies intraps in a string of lies that is hard to get out of; Romeo in secret goes to see his teenage lover Juliet at Capulet’s Orchard to declare their love for each other. They agree to get married and both go in secret to Friar Lawerance’s cell to have their romance declared official by the Flair. I'll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray: That thou consent to marry us today. This holds Romeo down to this ongoing hiding of his love and the lies that come with it. He is now married to a woman that he is presumably not allowed to marry. Also, simultaneously having his wife’s father trying to marry her off to another man in which he hated her for what he did to her cousin. Therefore, Romeo’s hiding and lying about his love for Juliet pushes him to an even deeper hole. Romeo visits the Capulet’s tomb and is met with the man who loves Juliet as dearly as himself. Paris, who was the man Juliet’s family thought she would marry, is now face to face with her real love. Romeo and Paris are then thrown into an altercation.
