If we compare both the Sonnet 18 and “Romeo and Juliet” we are able to distinguish certain aspects that are mentioned in both of them. Certainly, the overall theme is the same as both refers to love. In the sonnet the love becomes immortal due to the eternal lines. In “Romeo and Juliet” their love is preserved by their families. Even after death, people will still remember the beloved from the sonnet as well as Romeo and Juliet from the Drama. Moreover the sonnet complains about the rashness, hasty and shortness of summer similarly Juliet is insecure about the rashness of their love at the beginning. The point is that both are criticizing the short span of time, which ultimately leads to foolishness thinking in the end. The time aspect of both are really important for understanding the run of thoughts since time is elapsing each passing second. So, Romeo and Juliet have to make their move quickly since the heart is beating faster than the mind can think of. The reader gets the feeling that the object of affection is on a higher scale than the poet because the poet worships the beloved and even goes as far as devoting the sonnet to the beloved. In Romeo’s and Juliet’s relationship both of them are infatuated with each other, but still there is no inferior or superior relationship as both of them are equal. Juliet is emancipated and on the same scale as Romeo. The sonnet compares the beloved to summer, however based on the four humours summer is choleric which does not fit well with the happy, light-heartened feeling of the sonnet, which seem to be sanguine. If we compare the humours to Romeo and Juliet we are able to see both of them being sanguine while being in love.
