Mildred D Taylor's novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry tells a compelling story of the Logan's, an African American family living in rural Mississippi during the 1930's, a time of racial segregation. The novel, told through the eyes of 9 year old Cassie Logan, demonstrates the detailed issues of prejudice, discrimination and racism. Taylor uses setting and a variety of figurative language to exhibit and portray the growing injustice between black and white communities.
