Roger & Me is a documentary directed and narrated by Michael Moore, a filmmaker who has his entire family worked for the General Motors, except him. By the time the documentary was recorded, General Motors eliminated more than 30,000 jobs in Flint, Michigan. Therefore, more than anyone, Moore acknowledged of the effect of globalization towards the citizens and so this documentary will present his perspective upon social event in Flint, Michigan.
At the beginning of the documentary, Michael Moore summarized the process of how economic problem established in Flint, Michigan. As known as one of the pioneers of globalization, Roger Smith, the chairman of General Motors, saw the potential of cheap labor in Mexico. First, he decided to lay off 30,000 workers. Then, he closed down 11 factories in the U.S. and moved them to Mexico where he was able to pay the workers 70 cents an …show more content…

A guest justifies that, “We started the industrial revolution, an art form that’s never been created in the history of mankind.” These guests represent the general thinking among rich people that their profits are the most important and the company has to do what it has to do in order to stay competitive in today’s economic climate. By accompanying globalization, the G.M. was able to minimize their spends on the U.S. workers and maximize their profits with cheap labor in Mexico. On the other hand, it’s not surprised to me when one of the guests states, “I don’t think it’s fair to pick on the negative things and publicize them and not pick up any of the good aspects about Flint”. I find this ridiculous because they forgot the fact that they were the rich minority, and that they couldn’t understand the effect of downsizings 30,000 jobs of the workers, the majority of society. They want to talk about brotherly love at the same time they're screwing people
