The invention of the bomb “I am the destroyer of worlds” a famous quote by a man that has changed the course of history forever. Not only will his invention lead to the end of World War II, but it will also be the cause of more small wars and be the invention of other things such as nuclear power plants. This is how the invention of the atomic bomb came to be how it is now.
First off Robert Oppenheimer started making the bomb when Poland was invaded by the Nazi’s. (Atomic Heritage) The Bomb or the Atom Bomb was created and then dropped at the Manhattan Project for testing. The Manhattan project was a success at the time. The making of the bomb meant that they could end the war. Oppenheimer said, “I am the destroyer of worlds”. Their really wasn’t any other any inventions that lead up to this invention. He lived during the time of WWII. He was born in 1904 and died a few years later in 1967 due to cancer. (Atomic Heritage) At the age of ten Oppenheimer was learning about: minerals, Physics, and chemistry. Oppenheimer was born in New York City, and he was also raised there. He went to four different colleges: Harvard University, University of Gottingen, University of Cambridge, and Christs College. (eHISTORY) He also graduated as Valedictorian of his class. (eHISTORY) After the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima Oppenheimer went on to become chairman of the General Advisory Committee of the Atomic Energy Commission.
