I enjoy R.L. Stine’s writing because he is very good at replacing words with something else that means the same exact thing. He also makes the story interesting by making a problem and
a solution at all times of each book he makes.
I found the book to be easy, exciting reading because the story line was very realistic and easily relatable. This book flowed for me to a point when, at times, it was difficult to put down. Several scenes pleasantly caught me off guard and some were extremely hilarious, namely, the visit to Martha Oldcrow. I found myself really fond of the char...
After reading the opening chapters, I was surprised by the laid back, casual attitude Foster displayed. He did not go about explaining certain aspects of previously written novels in a way that was hard to understand. Foster explained things in great deal, but in good taste. He did not go on with boring information; he simply got his point across in a way that made me want to know more. Not only was his way of thinking and expressing his thoughts interesting, but the subjects he tapped into were interesting also. Foster connected things that surround our average day lives to literature, and the effect it brings to the literature. For example, Foster discusses vampires in on of the first few chapters. The majority of people have seen numerous movies about vampires, making it easy to connect with what he was talking about. His overall tone and strategy of writing was relatable and the least bit overwhelming, which quickly grabbed my attention and made me interested in things I would not normally be interested in.
... read and his beautiful and descriptive style allow me to say with absolute certainty that Steinbeck has developed into being my favorite author over the past few months. Yet, as I bring this paper to a close, I know that I have barely skimmed the surface of who this man was and why he wrote what he did the way he did.
Christina Crawford is responsible for the book Mommie Dearest, which gave an in depth view into the life of Christina Crawford growing up as Joan Crawford’s daughter. Richard Nixon wrote the book Memoirs of Richard Nixon. And Stephen King debuted in 1979 with his first big name book, The Dead Zone. Toni Morrison was born Chloe Anthony Wofford in Lorain, Ohio in 1931. Her six major novels--The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, Sula, Tar Baby, Beloved, and Jazz--have collected nearly every major literary prize. Ms.
The one author whose style I could appreciate most and who I could connect with best in “Doubletakes” was David Foster Wallace. His ability to capture one moment that most people would normally take for granted and to freeze this moment like it is occurring in slow motion, taking into account all five human senses (touch, sight, smell, taste and hearing), color imagery, similes, metaphors and all of his unique description of the scenes surrounding the actions of the main character really make him stand out in my mind. By taking an event so seemingly trivial (for example the act of climbing up and jumping off of a diving board in Forever Overhead), Wallace forces his readers to appreciate all aspects of life, especially the minor details. This is what appeals most to me about Wallace because I too like to point out small, seemingly insignificant events in my writing and put them under a microscope so to force the reader to think more seriously about mundane actions.
In the film, Stranger Than Fiction, a peculiar plot was revealed. Harold Crick possessed a normal and simple life with no distractions. Everything was plain about him, even down to the way he brushed his teeth. Therefore, you can imagine his confusion when he started to hear a strange voice in his head. Some may call it schizophrenia, but authors call it a storyline. Somehow author Karen Eiffel got inside of Harold’s head and narrated his life as it happened. Every step he took, paper he filed, and tooth he brushed was recorded out loud by his narrator, Karen. Though he did not know what was going on at the time, the viewers watching the movie knew. The
Lamott has a very different writing style compared to many authors. She adds a sense of humor to lighten the mood to her writing, and uses imagery to catch your attention. I enjoyed her humor because I feel as if it is hard
Notwithstanding feeling acting was his forte, Robert Ludlum is a phenomenal author who has contributed countless remarkable literary works. Dana Gioia uses his organizational ability and his word choice to strengthen his persuasive passage through his ability to create a domino effect on the negatives for not having a high amount of education in literary abilities. He also has a very harsh and very pessimistic word choice which creates a lot more emotion for the reader.
John Updike's use of descriptive diction, along with his fantastic example of hyperbole in Sammie's (he spelled the main character's name wrong) deep observation of his surroundings forms a well crafted story that envelops the reader in thought on the tough subjects of being a social hero and how far is it worth it in A&P.

...ries. Furthermore, his writing technique is very effective in engaging readers and helping the readers to be able to connect better with the narrator of each story. Even though I have not read every single one of his writings, from these three stories I can tell that Updike includes very strong emotions for the reader to better understand and feel the emotions that the characters in his stories may be going through. His methods of writing are definitely unlike that of many other authors that I have encountered. These three stories are very different than any other story I have read in the past. Nevertheless, from reading his stories, I did realize that even though the stories are very short, he is quickly able to engage the readers right away rather than many other stories that may have a slow beginning which usually makes me not want to continue reading a story.
Oh my, this is my chance! I can finally tell a teacher what to teach, and you may or may not listen. I have to make this good; really good. I enjoyed the Strange and Mysterious unit a lot. Learned about strange and creepy stories and how difficult it is to put those stories into motion pictures. Now for next year, when a new set of students come in and they are just as eager to start this unit, I have a great set of authors who should be your top pick for your new minions to read about and learn more about their history; R.L Stine, The Brothers Grimm, and my absolutely best pick, Patrick Carman. Now do not worry your head off on why they are great picks because I am going to explain why.
Nicholas Sparks is considered to be one of the greatest American authors of today. He provides love, romance, passion, drama, tragedy, comedy, triumph, and mystery in all of his novels. His stories are heartwarming and inspiring. Nicholas Sparks does not have a specific writing style. His writing style is flexible and liberal, and can be described as romantic, imaginative and engaging, and varies depending on the theme of the novel. The theme of the novel is the main thing that affects his writing style. Even though the themes of each novel mostly deal with love, each novel takes on different perspectives of love. His novels can be described as romantic, compassionate beach reads with real, relatable characters.
Many aspects of writing catch a reader's attention and keep one interested in a book. E. M. Forster put many of these aspects in his books making them well written and quite interesting. He combined great characters, a decent story line, and his prolific knowledge of writing to make his books readable and enjoyable.
