For some, the idea of having to listen to silence for the entire of duration of a road trip is a horrifying fate. For others, having to listen to music genres that they find terrible is equally nightmarish. Therefore, an agreeable music playlist can help ensure that a long roadtrip is as pain free as possible. While most choices are up to taste, having a great variability of music helps for the different cycles of a road trip. Most road trips that span several hours tend to go through several phases. Usually the first hour or two is relatively unmemorable – most people remain fresh, attentive, and free of the typical aches and annoyances that develop over long road trips (like emergency bathroom breaks and lower back pain). Typically the first few hours should consist of some filler songs, songs that aren’t exactly anyone’s favorites but usually agreeable to most or all people inside the car. In any case, the first few hours will likely consist of mutual conversation which can be helpfully distracting for everyone in the car. As time wears on, start switching to favorite or mutually popular songs on the playlist. Conversation will eventually die off as people get bored and fatigue begins to set in. Now is the time to play everyone’s favorite songs to keep things from getting tedious. Later, as it becomes night time and people fall asleep, consider playing something softer or quieter so as to allow people to rest. In any case, the driver is the captain of his ship and will usually have control over the music – as it should be. It would be best for everyone to contribute a few albums so that even if some people do not like the music being played, everyone gets their music on the
