As a net is made up of a series of ties, so is everything in this world is connected by a series of ties. If anyone thinks that the mesh of a net is an independent, isolated thing, he is mistaken. It is called a net because it is made up of a series of interconnected meshes, and each mesh has its place and responsibility in relation to other meshes. –Buddha The application of systems dynamics reveals deep interconnections that may not be readily apparent on the surface. Just like a pebble tossed in a pond, a seemingly insignificant event can have effects amplified throughout the entirety of a system. The small ripple created when the pebble hits the water can be a wave by the time it reaches the opposing shoreline. Likewise, in the planning context, the ripple effects of a new exurban shopping center, downtown high-rise or medical complex are felt far beyond any single neighborhood or city. The effects of development resonate beyond surrounding counties and metropolitan areas to impact the environmental, social or economic conditions region-wide. Planning at the regional scale is critical. As our economic interdependencies, land use patterns and transportation networks have evolved over the last century; the regional context has become increasingly important. As a result, to meaningfully influence the impacts associated with development, land use, and transportation, planning activities must be focused at a level where central cities, suburbs, and exurban areas are considered accordantly. Regional planning is far from a new concept. Contemporary regional planning trends such as urban growth boundaries, transit oriented development, sustainability planning, and reinvestment in central cities can trace its roots to the like... ... middle of paper ... ...d in urban design and encouraged the proliferation of non-motorized infrastructure. The current aspirations of the planning community hearken to the past efforts of theorists like Howard, Mumford, Adams and Geddes. Howard, for example, identified many social and environmental inequities arising from industrialization and exploitation of resources. Hence he, and his contemporaries, believed that these could best be addressed through planning efforts that tackled these challenges pro-actively. Contemporary regional planning trends, such as urban growth boundaries, transit oriented development, sustainability planning, and reinvestment in central cities are largely a response to the already ubiquitous reverberations of a lack of foresight. It is my hope that in their current iteration, these efforts are successful in dampening the effects for the next generation.
People will be more willing and capable of living in denser, more efficient environments only when the underlying culture that sustains sprawl is altered. The sense of the American community needs to be re-established if there is to be any real progress in the battle against sprawl. The REAL problem here then, is that changing the culture of a state, of a nation, is a very long and difficult undertaking…
Baltimore City is a diverse and culturally vibrant city. It’s a city with unique charm, made up of dozens of individual neighborhoods, each with their own distinct style and personality. It does however have its fair share of planning issues. Many of these problems are the result of a history of poor decisions made by government officials. Only through a thorough examination of the issues and a look at sustainable solutions that might improve the city can a planner help Baltimore be the vibrant, secure, and prosperous city it has the potential to be.

In conclusion, I believe that every place has one building that either makes or breaks the area in which it is located. I believe that my city has areas where some buildings bring the area down. As a resident of Saginaw I didn’t really want to bring the negative to this paper, I’d rather bring the positive buildings to my paper. I hate the negativity the world has on Saginaw. But what they fail to realize is every place has a downfall, and the rise of Saginaw is on its way!

* Urban Professional^s recognition of the increased variability, robustness, and interest in both the urban area and their work. * Conservation Activist^s commendation of the lower consumption of resources, and reduced pressure on sensitive environment areas, suggestive of a reduction in urban sprawl. * The Development Industry^s equations of profit established through better and higher levels of land use. Essentially urban consolidation proposes an increase of either population or dwellings in an existing defined urban area (Roseth,1991). Furthermore, the suburban village seeks to establish this intensification within a more specific agenda, in which community is to be centred by public transport nodes, and housing choice is to be widened with increased diversity of housing type (Jackson,1998).
Urban sprawl is a widespread concern that impacts land use, transportation, social and economic development, and most importantly our health. Poorly planned development is threatening our health, our environment and our quality of life. Sprawl is blamed for many things such as asthma and global warming, flooding and erosion, extinction of wildlife, and most importantly the public health such as social isolation and obesity due to people driving everywhere. Building offices, homes, shops, schools and other buildings influences the building of roads, transit and other transportation modes. This relationship that can lead to safe, walkable, diverse and lively communities or out of control, poorly planned urban sprawl. Unfortunately sprawl has been winning and the public health is at risk.
Throughout this year we have explored the many literary movements in our country’s history. The hopes and dreams of the American people have been drastically altered from the time when our forefathers landed on Plymouth Rock in 1620 to present day. Literature has influenced people’s thinking throughout the almost 400 years since our country’s humble beginnings; this country was built on a multitude of great, inspiring literature. Now as this year comes to a close, I reflect on how literature has affected not only this country, but myself. Has the literature I read this year changed my worldview or simply strengthened my original opinions?

Urban Planning is about places for people. It is about their creation, their function, their maintenance and their improvement .Cities and towns are the basic building blocks of modern society, operating as centers of commerce and trade, government and politics, and knowledge and culture. Well- planned, efficient cities provide healthy and attractive environment for people to live, work and play.
In my conclusion, I will align with sociologist Feagin and Parker suggested understanding that political and economic leaders control urban growth. Here in my country. The urban mayors, and leading business class has hijack the land allocation. “economic and political leaders work alongside each other to effect change in urban growth and decline, determining where money flows and how land use is regulated,” (Little & McGivern, 2013, p.622).
Moore said that we can understand sustainability as “a storyline, a narrative thread that people use to understand how the past, present, and future can be connected in different ways” (Moore 2007). Since the understanding of sustainability has been changing, we can neither predict what will happen in the future nor establish a set of rules for the future generation to follow. As Norton argued, sustainable activities can be conducted in the present “without negatively impacting the range of important choices that should be left open to the next generation” (Norton 2005:432). Therefore, it’s crucial to apprehend the nature of sustainable cities in order to set up the framework while never kill
