Superman, Batman, and Wonderwoman. These names all come to mind when thinking of superheroes. Even though they all had a positive impact on others, they were all look the same; fictional characters in spandex and capes. Real-life superheroes all look different, and they, unfortunately, don’t wear funny costumes. Riley Jones is my hero, because she is compassionate, strong, and an inspiring role model. Riley is good with emotions. Riley listens to you when you need someone to talk to, she hugs you when you need a hug, and she provides a shoulder to cry on when you are upset. An important example of Riley showing her compassion is when I was 11 at summer states, I just finished swimming my 200 backstroke. I did awful. At the time I didn’t know Riley very well, I just knew she was one of the faster and intimidating older kids. When I got out of the pool I immediately started crying. I walked back to the rest of the team, and Riley came and sat down next to me and just hugged me and let me cry, occasionally whispering supportive words. I clung to her the rest of that meet, and not once did she leave me behind or exclude me. When Riley showed me her compassion …show more content…
And I’m not talking about strong like The Hulk, I mean strong mentally. I remember one season when Riley struggled to get faster, and after every race, you could see her frustration. But it didn’t make sense to me, she was the hardest working person I have ever met. She outworked us all. After a while, I started noticing that she started cheering at meets more, she was more encouraging at practice and she just made the overall atmosphere of the team more positive. The rest of the team started to get faster. A few weeks later, Riley started to drop time. It was like she used everyone else’s success to propel her own. Instead of giving up, she found a way to persevere and maintain a positive attitude, because of this she actually got even faster. Riley’s second superpower was a strong-willed
Mary Wade, born on the 5th of October 1777 was the youngest convict to be sent to Australia. Before her life as a convict, she would sweep and beg on the streets of London to make her living.
Every generation has its own heroes that display, what they believe to be, ideal characteristics. While each is different in their own way, many of these role models share similar qualities. Most tend to have courage, strength, compassion, or another respected trait, but this is not necessarily why they win the adoration of their followers.
Katherine Johnson is a memorable African American mathematician and an icon for young black girls around the world. Katherine Johnson loved math. Early in her career, she was called a “computer.” She helped NASA put an astronaut into orbit around Earth, and then she helped put a man on the moon.
Heroes, the unordinary beings with extravagant abilities, from powers and competence to skills and talents. Heroes are people who are idealized by society for their courage and individuality. Iconic and well recognized heroes like Hercules, Superman, Spiderman and Achilles are some of the few heroes known around. All heroes have a similarity to each other, for example Beowulf and Batman. While both can be considered great heroes, they differ significantly, yet are similar in other ways.
Mirabeau B.Lamar, president of the Republic of Texas, was born near Louisville, Georgia, on August 16, 1798. He grew up at Fairfield, his father's plantation near Milledgeville. As a little boy he became an expert horseman and an accomplished fencer, began writing verse, and painted in oils. He married Tabitha Jordan of Twiggs County, Georgia, on January 1, 1826, and soon resigned his secretaryship to nurse his bride, who was ill with tuberculosis. In 1828 he moved his wife and daughter, Rebecca Ann, to the new town of Columbus, Georgia. Lamar was elected state senator in 1829 and was a candidate for reelection when his wife died on August 20, 1830. He left from the race and traveled until he was sufficiently recovered. During this time he collected two of his best poems, "At Evening on the Banks of the Chattahoochee" and "Thou Idol of My Soul." He ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1832, helped organize
There is so much fame for non-real superheroes that people tend to overlook real life ones. An example is Rosa Parks; her bravery to not give up her seat to a white person changed history’s course forever. Without her bravery, today would not be like it is. The Montgomery bus boycott would never have happened. Martin Luther King Jr. would not be known for speaking up and peacefully fighting for civil rights. Here in this paper, you’ll learn more about this once real-life superhero, Rosa Parks.
One of my favorite examples of a hero is from the Marvel comic book series. In this series, there's a variety of heroes being displayed. What I like about the heroes in this comic book series is the majority of them are just ordinary individuals that choose or are destined to do extraordinary things. So it
Heroes, crime fighting people that save the world from bad guys and super villains. Some heroes might be like that, but not my hero. This man was a normal person that rose to a opportunity that he saw and took it. He help many people with their hardships of being treated differently. My hero is Martin Luther King Jr, he had many great ideas that changed history forever. I think that he did it all out of love not popularity and he did so in a peaceful way, therefore I think he is a great hero.
- Inigo Jones was British painter, architect, and designer, he was best known as the first prominent British architect in England.
First from this chapter we worked on the three layers of diversity (Engleberg and Wynn 74). Some of Riley’s diverse aspects are that she has her own individual personality, she is Caucasian, twelve years old, female, a middle school student, and many more. Also we did the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator with the mindset of being Riley (MyersBriggs.org), finding that she is an extrovert, which means she focuses outward and gets her energy from being around others. She is also a sensor, someone who focuses on details and is practical and realistic. Also she is a feeler and perceiver meaning she is people-oriented and seeks group harmony, also that she likes open-endedness and sees being on time as less important than being flexible and adaptable (Engleberg and Wynn 78-80). The film also included stereotypes such as the cool girl at school, the gender roles, and the representation of the emotions. The gender roles varying from the way the male emotions, Anger and Fear, were dressed and the overall way they acted to the female characters, Joy, Sadness, and Disgust, seeming more caring and nurturing.
James has humanizing work and was honored as no other american poet. Riley was born in Greenfield, Indiana on October 7, 1849. When Riley was in school he didn’t understand history or math. As a boy, he retiring noted mainly for pranks. James was sometimes used to be called a “dialect singer.” When he was growing up he lived in a log cabin, but when it got replaced with a large two story house with bright shutter, for visitors from throughout the wide world. He passed away on July 22, 1916 of a stroke.
As we grow up, we have our parents we always look up to or other family members we admire and who influence us in our lives. Superheroes to us do not wear capes in this world. Many of our childhood friends as well relatives did not stay in our lives for long. However, we always have those special people who do stay and who impact our lives more than anyone else. The three people who have influenced me the most are my freshman Algebra I teacher, my mother, and my boyfriend Jonathan.
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Christopher Reeve. Whenever I hear the word hero, I envision a man wearing a cape and tights, rescuing helpless civilians from burning buildings. But in reality, such mutants don’t exist. Instead, we have the people who raised us and read us stories of these amazing people. We have the person who helped us learn how to walk and how to talk, our mothers. My mother is the person I look up to and I hope to one day become. She has shaped me into the person I am
What is the first thing you think of when I ask you who your hero is? Do you think of Batman or Superman? What about a real life hero? My hero is seemingly insignificant to most, not famous, and certainly not Superman. But my brother Jackson is my hero not because of his strength, but because of his love for life, his ability to be supportive, and for his strong morals.
When you envision a hero do you think of a superhero or a real life person? There are many
