Kathleen Cleaver’s tone in her speech, Ministry of Information Black Paper, is serious because she wants black Americans to know they are being taken advantage in politics. She informs her audience, “The Black Party for Self Defense demands that bootlicking come to screeching halt in 1968.” They were tired of having to deal with all this racism and discrimination against black Americans and thought they needed to put a stop to it. Cleaver’s speech first informs her audience of continuous abuse of black Americans from white supremacists. The point of informing first is to give her audience background information when listening to her argument. She includes the reasons for whites bringing blacks to the United States from the beginning, “The power structure has never done anything to advance the interests of blacks except when their own interests were also served.” Cleaver believes blacks have always satisfied the interests of other but their own. Newton story is ideal for the representation and fight for freedom. She explains Huey P. Newton’s life as, “a testament to his principles, his political imprisonment and his risking his life for his political principles-- not only the morning he was shot, but every day since he founded the Black Panther Party for Self Defense.” As the founder of the Black Panther Party, he did not ask anything from the people but to simply learn from him and use his examples. He wanted to inform and protect the black community from abusive powers. He was not the type of person to go around asking for money or something in return in exchange for his help. Cleaver wants to persuade the audience that, “By running Huey in the seventh congressional district, it is this kind of leadership that will gain national projection, not one more black democrat.” He is someone Cleaver believes is ideal for this position and a role model for their
community. The strengths in Ministry of Information Black Paper are being informative from the beginning of the speech in order to keep her audience up to date. This helps her transition into her argument well enough so that the audience is not confused. Even when she began to state her argument she gave information on Huey P. Newton and her reasons for believing he is the best fit for leadership. This made her speech strong and persuading to her audience because of the evidence she gives to her main point. The background information that was mentioned which was stating black Americans being used for the benefit of white Americans since they arrived in America helps the audience understand the frustration of wanting freedom and something in return.
Margaret Sanger, a well known feminist and women's reproductive right activist in USA history wrote the famous speech: The Children's Era. As a new member of the committee, it was Barbara Jordan’s job to convince everyone else to vote for the impeachment of Nixon. Ann Richards’s keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention in 1988 was extremely interesting to watch. I believe her speech was intended to be focused on the American family and also the American farmers. Kelley’s argument was to add laws to help the workers or abolish the practice completely.

Speaking from experience, Fisher is able talk about the danger of ignorance from the disease. She deploys metaphors and allusions pertaining to the Holocaust, as well as hypothetical experiences, to address a complacent, if not oppositional, Republican crowd. During the late 1800’s and early 1900’s the fight for equal and just treatment for both women and children was one of the most historically prominent movements in America. Courageous women everywhere fought, protested and petitioned with the hope that they would achieve equal rights and better treatment for all, especially children. One of these women is known as Florence Kelley. On July 22, 1905, Kelley made her mark on the nation when she delivered a speech before the National American Woman Suffrage Association, raising awareness of the cruel truth of the severity behind child labor through the use of repetition, imagery and oxymorons.
Florence Kelley was a social and political reformer that fought for woman’s suffrage and child labor laws. Her speech to the National American Woman’s Suffrage Association initiated a call to action for the reform of child labor laws. She explains how young children worked long and exhausting hours during the night and how despicable these work conditions were. Kelley’s use of ethos, logos, pathos, and repetition helps her establish her argument for the reform of the child labor laws.

Just like everyone else.” This mantra from Margaret Mead is a somewhat humorous yet slightly satirical spin on how people tend to think of themselves as one-of-a-kind, irreplaceable human specimens. However, one English teacher from Wellesley High School takes this critique one step further with his polemic presentation at the school commencement. David McCullough, a Massachusetts English teacher, gave a seemingly somber sendoff to his graduates in 2012, with a speech that contained some unapologetically harsh sentiments. However, by looking past the outwardly dismal surface of the speech, the students can infer a more optimistic message. By incorporating devices of asyndeton, paradox, antimetabole, and anadiplosis, McCullough conveys to each student that even though none of them is unique, their commonality is not a fault they all have merit and should strive to view the world through a more selfless lens.

Assuredly, the purpose of this speech was to enlighten the minds of many Black Americans and engaged them in the fight for the civil rights. They now understand the situation at hand based on the vivid details expressed by X in his speech. As a result of X speaking up for the nation of blacks, he instilled the idea that African Americans should vote and become more politically active, by this motivation, he has established a new philosophy in the minds of the Black Americans, that being to seek equality.
In Michelle Alexander’s article The New Jim Crow, she addresses the importance of educating people on the harsh reality of racial caste in America. As a civil rights lawyer and with previous work experience at the ACLU in northern California, Alexander knows the importance of getting relevant information to the public in order to inform them of important information. In The New Jim Crow, Alexander uses a specific writing style through rhetorical devices to convey her message that the US justice system is turning into the modern day laws of Jim Crow, outlawing African Americans and taking away their basic natural rights while creating a new racial caste system and the possibility of the system to change. Throughout the article, Alexander utilizes diction in order to grab people’s attention and emphasize the united front that America needs to have in order to protect struggling and impoverished African Americans.
On September 5, 1995 Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered a speech to the United Nations 4th World Conference during a Women Plenary Session, located in Beijing, China. Clinton spoke about how women around the world were not treated equally, how women rights should be equal to human rights, and the ghastly abuse and discrimination women faced around the world. The reason for the conference was to strengthen women, families, and societies in order to empower women to taking control of their lives and not be subject to such discrimination. She emphasized how education, health care, jobs, and political rights were not equal between genders and that the world needed to change. Clinton gave a very convincing speech because of her use of rhetorical techniques. The use of pathos, ethos, logos, and anaphora created a powerful, persuasive argument against the way women were treated around the world. Clintons main goal of this speech was to appeal to the audience and convince them that this is unequal treatment is an immense matter and needs to be addressed all over the world.
The Party’s fight for redistribution of wealth and the establishment of social, political and social equality across gender and color barriers made it one of the first organizations in U.S. history to militantly struggle for working class liberation and ethnic minorities (Baggins, Brian).
