In bite me or don’t: twilight as abstinence porn, Christine Seifert from Westminster college in Utah, analyzes the twilight saga. Describing twilight saga as an abstinence porn saga. Christine agrees with twilight fans about the lost of abstinence and sexual tension in breaking dawn. Christine is a feminist writer from the Bitch magazine she emphasizes most of her critics towards Bella describing her as weak and with no control over her body (348). Seifert believes that Edward is in control of Bella’s protection, humanity and virginity.(348)Christine uses rhetorical strategies during her discussion, persuading the reader about the life of Bella as a teenage mom and how twilight transmits a message of abstinence. Christine Seifert is to contrast the books from twilight and show the effects of it to the young people. Seifert declares twilight as a “New sub-genre of teen romance”(345). Where the series had sold more than 50 million copies knocking harry potter off from his pedestrian, crowding the internet with fans blogs and sites (345). Christine argues that twilight has an abstinence message, suggesting the reader to believe that pre-sex , Edward and Bella were the perfect couple , convincing the reader that self denial is hot. Twilight is a saga of four books for young adults.
The first three books don’t contain any sex just sexual tension, between Bella and Edward. Making the series a “hole success “(345) fans readers and moviegoers were fascinated and left in suspense after the first three books always waiting for the big moment between Bella and Edward. After the saga came out in 2005 ( stephaniemeyer.com/twilight.html) fanatisim started with many blogs ,websites, groups, etc. such as twilight fanatics Facebook (facebook.com/trueandthroughtwilightfantics) . how is this affecting young people? Well Christine Seifert argues that twilight has transmitted an abstincence message to fans. The idea of waiting until marriage to engage in intimacy is represented by the twilight saga where the ideal couple Bella and Edward engage with each other and finally consume the sexual tension that has been exposed during the first three books. A study conducted by the university of Missouri in 2010, found that abstinence was the feature that kept referencing as the reason bella and Edwards relationship was so appealing. This controversial acknowledgement of twilight could refer to the background of Stephanie Meyer, who is well known for being a religious woman approaching this area with Jewish values (aish.com/s/as/the-twilight-saga—abtinence.html). to me ,abstinence is transmitted throughout the saga but is not an actual issue. In the united states 46 % of all high school age students, and 62 percent of high school senior students , have had sexual intercourse, this leaves us with almost nine million teens with active sexual
activity. The Seiferts argument about Bella "loosing her virginity with the loss of other things, including her sense of herself and her very life" could be considered a true statement throughout the saga. Bella does not represent the ideal feminist women. In fact, she is a symbol of weakness as Christine states in her article Bella is a "traditional and boring teenaged mom, with no interesting hobbies ". Her only activity is cooking for her father (345). The only excitement that Bella presents in the saga is always being rescued by Edward and the sexual tension she put him into. Bella swan is always a victim, but in my own opinion, she is her own victim, having two men in her life where she had to pick but also kept a close relationship with one her "best friend " Jacob . " I had never meant to love him... But I need Jacob now, needed him like a drug." (New moon,182). Bella could be defined as a fragile woman needing men to rescue her, like a typical princess movie. Bella's weakness towards Edward made her lose her humanity, transforming herself into a vampire, but this transformation also has lots to do with her sacrifice, her half vampire baby . The criticisms towards Edward and his supposing controlling personality over Bella turns out to be just an opinion from Seifert. Her extreme feminist argument does not contain any support just opinions from other feminist Anna N from the Jezebel magazine . Stating that " the closer she and Edward get, the more tempting it is for him to bite her and turn her into a vampire" persuading the reader to believe his vampiric and carnival urges is obvious . But in reality Bella is a also the main cause of Edwards reaction, plenty times Edward had been able to control his urge, but Bella keeps pushing it forward in eclipse Bella tells Edward to have sex with her, but he rejects it (eclipse chapter 27 of 616)" I want to be a monster, too ". (Bella swan,eclipse,chapter1 pg25) Bella states. Christine Seifert analyzed the abstinence trough the twilight saga, emphazing the effects towards fans, using her own opinion. Seifert persuades the reader through her argument driven with emotions from her feminist side. Twilight fans opinion about the romance have emphasized in Seifert’s assertion of the “ message transmitted “ trough out the saga. A 15 year old-girl reported on a survey that she felt a “a draw towards a romantic and passionate relationship that is safe like sex after marriage”(). In the other hand U.S researches also prove that is not a fully an issue for young adults. The image of Bella as a housewife of the 1950’s after the sexual tension and vivid moments of excitement also represents Bella’s antifeminist side which Christine has criticized. If the Twilight saga is analyzed from different points of view , Edward’s role could be appreciated and understandable , and not characterized by opinions from antifeminist analyzers.

Only the poor, the beggar, and the under-classes are prefer to walk, in the opinion of some Americans. However, one American, the author Antonia Malchik, writes “The End of Walking,” and she argues that in Orwellian fashion, American people not only walk less, but are afforded less opportunity to walk. Undermined pedestrian transit systems encroaches on people’s liberty, instinct, and health. In Malchik’s article, most of the rhetorical strategies are very effective. She strengthens the credibility successfully by citing experts’ words and narrating her own experiences. With facts and statistics, she interprets the logical reasons of walking.
The environment has always been controversial topic. Global warming, fossil fuels, and climate change usually are the main topics, when talking about the environment. Many people feel strongly about the issues pertaining to the environment, while others seem not to care. Though some of the populace seems to not care about the environment, many people do not fully understand what is going on. Most of the population is not fully educated on the issues of the environment. While some people are, they are not sure what to do with what they know. If more people had knowledge and knew how to help, would they?
I chose this word because the tone of the first chapter seems rather dark. We hear stories of the hopes with which the Puritans arrived in the new world; however, these hopes quickly turned dark because the Purtains found that the first buildings they needed to create were a prison, which alludes to the sins they committed; and a cemetery, which contradicts the new life they hoped to create for themselves.
Pepper Schwartz opens Why is Everyone Afraid of Sex? with "In spite of the visibility of sex in the media and popular culture, despite a widespread acceptance of a variety of sexual practices, Americans still hold a deep-rooted fear of sex." (252) Schwartz then goes on to explain the surprising, but obvious truth. American society portrays a sexual attitude, but is actually hiding a fear of the activity. Schwartz does a great job of showing both sides of this argument. She mentions how sex seems to no longer be a completely taboo thing within the media and society today. Within television, magazines, articles, movies, etc, sexual themes are all over the place. Another factor is that premarital sex is becoming more and more acceptable these
Marriage is the biggest and final step between two young people who love one another more than anything. In the marriage proposals by Charles Dickens and Jane Austen we are able to see two different reasons for marriage. While Dickens takes a more passionate approach, Austen attempts a more formal and logical proposal. Rhetorical strategies, such as attitude and diction, have a great impact on the effect the proposals have on the women.
It was not until 1919 that women had the right to vote. If it was not for the hard work, determination, and perseverance from Elizabeth Cady Stanton, women today still may not of had the privilege to vote. Because of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and her hard work, women are now treated equally in our society today.
I feel that Hansberry is trying to send the message that a dream is just a dream unless you try to make it into a reality. Walter Lee showed exactly that when he decided to move into the house. He showed how your dreams can be real if you understand and believe in them until they have become your reality. But when Walter Lee said no to the man who was going to write them a check for a lot of money, it revealed that before you can make your dream real you must overcome the obstacles stopping you from making them real. The idea that you understand and believe in your dream helps overcome those obstacles stopping you and I feel that is Hansberry overall message to her
Vampires have been a popular figure in literary works for almost 200 years; from John Polidori’s The Vampyre (1819) to Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight (2005), the figure of the vampire has changed and developed over time but still remains popular and recognisable throughout literary history. The figure of the vampire is often used to represent ‘the other’, or as a manifestation of social anxieties at the time of writing. This is why it is interesting to study the how the tropes found within vampire fiction differ between texts, and the reasons behind these differences or transformations in the figure of the vampire. I will look at a range of texts to study how sexuality
This fetish has been manifested in the movies I view, the television shows I watch, and the books I read. When my obsession with reading is crossed with my obsession with monsters, the result is a bookshelf containing more vampire novels than most people would consider healthy. I have discovered that every vampire novel varies vastly; no two books are ever alike. For example, the Twilight Series, the Anita Blake Series and the Vampire Chronicles Series have different legends and lore, different relationships between vampires and society, and different genres, theme, and purpose; this array of novels displays most clearly the range of audience the vampire genre can cater. The Twilight series is a bestselling series written by Stephanie Meyer that has captivated millions of teenage girls.
There has been a heated debate over the years on whether sex education should be taught at schools instead of abstinence-only. Many believe that talking about sex in the classroom raises the initiation of such behavior, and by stressing discipline, self-control, and self-respect, advocates argue, abstinence-only programs build character in students. Others believe that ignoring the subject keeps teens in the dark which leads them to make unsafe decisions when they become sexually active. In order to fix this problem schools should teach Sex Education, but emphasize that abstinence is the only 100 percent effective way to prevent pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases.
In the article, "Society Should Encourage Teens to Postpone Sex Until Marriage," Joseph Perkins argues that in order to avoid unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases, teen should be taught to abstain from sex, rather than be taught about condoms and other forms of birth control. Perkins also suggests that, "sexual activity… outside of marriage is likely to have harmful psychological and physical effects." Perkins also points out that since more abstinence-only programs have been introduced, "teen-age pregnancies, abortions, and births have fallen. Perkins sets out in this article to advise adults that if they convey the message that premarital sex is wrong, that teens are more likely to listen.
The Twilight Saga, by Stephanie Meyer, has been viewed as a narrative of either teenage lust or romantic love, characterized by Bella, an introverted seventeen-year-old girl, and Edward Cullen, a mysterious vampire who goes to Bella’s high school. The book series stole the hearts of teenage girls across the world and even expanded upon those horizons to reach an audience so wide that the book series became a household name. Still, no one has credited the Cullen’s in the way that they display family loyalty, self-control, and altruism among themselves. Critics have endlessly discussed the love and lust, of the two individuals and are fascinated by the ability of the Twilight Saga to fall not just in the genre of romance, but also in the supernatural/
...e biggest problems of humans, and people feel fear about this. For instance, before Bella had become a vampire, she wanted to become a vampire so badly in order to stay with Edward forever. When she turned a vampire after she had died due to giving birth, she had sex with Edward and said that vampires do not need to sleep because we do not feel tired at all. Today we have seen a lot of aging women and men undergo to plastic surgery in order to improve their physical looking. The authors of Twilight books and movies understand the humans’ desires, and they want us to know that the world we live today is just a temporary life. They believe that humans will have an internal life after we die, so they try to convince and encourage us that we should accept the limitations of human life and even inequality between sex roles because we will live happiness in later life.
The idea of waiting till marriage to have sex is no longer as effective with teens as it was in the past, due to the outcome of the “sexual revolution liberalizing social and moral attitudes toward sex” (Findley, Sarah, Chelsea Mageland, and Gabriella Pastor). For years the media has promoted sex in music, movies, television shows, and even with people. In the music industry we have many song with hidden sexual content that many teens listen to. For example, the song
