From a political point of view, the year 2016 came along with many different surprises. Not only did Donald Trump win the Republican Nomination, but he also won the election and became Americas 45th President. There many reasons to why Mr. Trump won the Republican Nomination in the first place. The Republican party tends to prefer candidate that are reasonably “electable” and that hold traditional policy positions. Donald Trump did not present any of those values, which made him as a candidate stand out from all the other Republican candidates.

He spoke with such confidence, reassurance and enthusiasm at his rallies that people believed him that his policies and campaign promises will really take place. His biggest goal was to “make America great again”. The following is a partial quote from one of his famous speeches. This speech is known as “the speech that will make Donald Trump President”. “American cars will travel the road. American planes will soar the skies. And American ships will patrol the seas. American steal will wend new skyscrapers into the clouds. American hands will rebuild this nation. And American energy harvested from American sources will power this nation. American workers will be hired to do the job. We will put new American metal and new American steel into the spine of this country. Jobs will return. Incomes will rise. New factories will come rushing back to our shores. We will make American wealthy again. We will make America strong again. And we will make America great again” …show more content…

He is very confident, strong-willed and well organized. Some people see his confidence as being part of having narcissist traits as well. As already mentioned, Trump as proven himself that he has not problem targeting another person by insulting them. Whether is commenting on their physical appearance or calling them names. The lack of remorse and the statements that he had made in the past, such as: “I alone can fix it” have proven that indeed he is a very controversial person and not everybody likes him. Some people may say that he could be intimidating towards others as well with the comments he has made. All those characteristics together definitely helped him win the race. The majority of American people saw him as a strong, opinionated and successful leader that would bring great changes to the United States (usatoday.com).
The policies that Donald Trump projected also helped him to win the race for the Republican Nomination. From the day, he announced his candidacy, Donald Trump made it very clear that he wanted to crack down on undocumented immigrants. Many Americans agreed with this policy and were very supportive towards it. In the eyes of those supportive Americans, the undocumented immigrants would take away the jobs of legal Americans. Another point was that those supportive Americans were also fed up with illegal immigrants putting a strain on the American economy
