What I wish Everyone Knew About Sexual Harassment In The Workplace Put yourself in the place of the sexual harassment victim. You are harassed by a worker who is the star of the company or someone in high power. You know that if you report the incident there is a possibility that you could face retaliation from the company. Would you risk your career and stick up for yourself or would you continue to be oppressed by your harasser? Most victims choose the latter option due to the fact that they know there is a possibility that reporting it to an HR department could backfire on them and force them to live with knowing that they wouldn’t gain the justice they deserve. Individuals who are in charge of handling and maintaining the human resources of an organization work in a human resource department. Human resource departments started making its way into organizations in succession to the human relations era. Implementing HR functions was sought after when organizations realized that workers are more productive when managers make them satisfied. Now in nearly every company an HR department is a necessity to help workers become productive and feel like they belong. However, within every system there is a flaw. Human …show more content…

The author explains that when women gain the courage to report an occurrence to HR they are faced with the opposite of fairness. Miller states, “ In one study of public-sector employees, two-thirds of workers who had complained about mistreatment described some form of retaliation in a follow-up survey.” There are grievance procedures that prevent women from feeling secure when they are reporting harassment. If that wasn’t enough to intimidate women then there is the fact that there are individuals who have reputations for unwelcomed sexual advances towards workers.
