Rethinking Leadership in the Learning Organization
A proclamation by a CEO that “we are going to become a learning organization” will likely be met with collective eye rolling and wonderings of, “What workshop did he attend last week?” Indeed, many employees are so accustomed to these management “initiatives-of-the-month” that seeing any results from such a managerial decree is extremely unlikely.
Another of the main barriers to creating a learning organization, Senge says, is the difference between compliance and commitment. The employees are loath to accept change that starts at the top of the managerial hierarchy. A value is a value only if voluntarily chosen. We cannot force others to learn. Since it is really the individuals that comprise a learning organization, there is no substitute for a personal desire to learn.
Decisions made by managers can also have the effect of paradoxically moving an organization backwards. Downsizing can lead to increased competitiveness, which is a hindrance to productivity. Competitiveness can also undermine collaborative efforts and thereby affect a company’s economic prosperity.
Senge defines three leadership types that he says are essential to building a learning organization:
1. Local line leaders. These are leaders who undertake meaningful experiments to test whether new learning capabilities actually lead to improved business results.
2. Executive leaders. They provide support for line leaders,...
(Fagerstrom 129). It is important to find a balance in all four of these areas and learn to grow in each of them to become an effective and intentional leader. This is something that needs to be done on a constant basis, it is not just a “one time and done lesson” it is a lifelong

In the novel Frankenstein written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly, Knowledge is power for Victor Frankenstein. Mary Shelly explains that Dr. Frankenstein’s hunger for the knowledge to create life out of death only leads to Victor’s unfortunate monster. The consequences that Victor Frankenstein experiences from creating a creature from his own madness leads to his death as well as the creature. Mary Shelly explains in her novel Frankenstein that Victor’s need to study life and how it is created is dangerous; furthermore, the abomination that the doctor creates should have never been created; however, the monster that Victor creates is his own monstrosity.
Five Leadership Grid styles: authority-compliance, country club management, impoverished management, middle of the road management, and team management.
Everyone has a different definition of what makes someone a leader. My definition is not a statement of requirements, but more so a list of characteristics. I believe it takes a strong, independent, dependable, open-minded, thoughtful, selfless, smart and creative, someone who can work well with others, able to work under pressure, respectful, and experienced individual to be a leader. I believe it is someone who knows who they are and know their morals, someone who has already found who they are in life and accepts who they are, making what I believe the most important characteristic is, is someone who knows and sticks with their personal values. If someone cannot respect values and stick to their word, then how can they be a leader of others? A leader takes a lot of work, but if you are good at it, it may seem like nothing. Some people are leaders and do not even know it, like role models. When little kids look up to certain people that have impacted their lives in a way, they will see those people as role models. Truth is, leaders are everywhere and not everyone knows or can see that. It's not always the person who stands out for taking control or being bossy, but the one with the characteristics and high values that do the right things, even when no one is watching.

Thesis statement: Research suggest that electronic cigarettes, while less harmful than conventional cigarettes, have significant health risk and safety concerns.
Each organization has a process unique to their work environment. Organizations try different strategies or systems to teach employees or acquire knowledge from them in order to promote continous improvement through changes and re-learning. Although, typically there are few key elements that are common between organizations, known as the 5 learning areas.
This management structure where “everyone does everything”, obviously create an ideal learning environment, “one in which people have an engaging experience on a daily basis”. While it permits speed in decision making since approvals are not required from the top management, they can also prove to be inefficient and costly at times. Not only does the employe...
In the first stage of growth, the founders of an organization develop skills and create new products. Learning is a huge component of this phase of organizational growth. Entrepreneurs learn what works and what doesn’t. People’s behaviors are governed by organizational culture rather than by hierarchy (Jones, 2010).
Hollywood is an interesting entity, it provides the world with entertainment that is exciting, emotional, unique and so much more. At the same time, however, it’s hard not to see Hollywood as a money grubbing industry, full of sleazy deals, awful movies and it has even produced films completely diluted of originality. One style of filmmaking that often gets this label of unoriginality is remakes, which “While genre films, cycles, and sequels… have found their legitimate place in film theory and criticism, the same cannot be said for the remake, which at least since the fifties, has been treated as a less than respectable Hollywood commercial practice.”
“Entertainment has to come hand in hand with a little bit of medicine, some people go to the movies to be reminded that everything’s okay. I don’t make those kinds of movies. That, to me, is a lie. Everything’s not okay.” - David Fincher. David Fincher is the director that I am choosing to homage for a number of reasons. I personally find his movies to be some of the deepest, most well made, and beautiful films in recent memory. However it is Fincher’s take on story telling and filmmaking in general that causes me to admire his films so much. This quote exemplifies that, and is something that I whole-heartedly agree with. I am and have always been extremely opinionated and open about my views on the world and I believe that artists have a responsibility to do what they can with their art to help improve the culture that they are helping to create. In this paper I will try to outline exactly how Fincher creates the masterpieces that he does and what I can take from that and apply to my films.
A sensitive topic for many Americans is their income. Many people’s income relies on minimum wage. In 2012, 3.6 million people received an hourly pay at or below minimum wage. There is an ongoing debate in government as to what the minimum wage should be. Stuck at $7.25, Obama has suggested raising the minimum wage to $9.00. Depending on a person’s perspective, raising minimum wage could be positive or negative. Minimum wage has the ability to change lives, and change the economy. Small businesses and unemployment, teenage demographics, and the cost of civilian goods would be most affected. The only mystery is whether things would change for the better or for the worse.
...es.” The Department of Justice should push for a larger budget in order to maintain order in prisons. With a larger budget the Department of Justice could build new prisons or expand already existing prisons. The expansion of prisons would help tremendously with the issue of overcrowding. If there was a larger budget for expansion there would be more of an opportunity for inmates to receive the services they need in order to be successfully re-entered into the civilian world. Prisons would also become more secure due to the addition of space within prisons. There would be less of a chance for inmates to brawl due to lack of space or privacy. The invasion of privacy would become less of a problem since there would be more space for inmates to share. With more space to share inmates can be allowed spend more time in recreation and education centers inside of prison.
Education is a very important aspect in the life of a child. The level of success a student has in the classroom is greatly influenced by their teachers. Students, as well as their parents, depend on the teachers to guide them through their education. But who guides a teacher to perform successfully in the classroom? Principals and teachers play an important role in schools. A good relationship among school leaders and teachers is necessary and play an important role in making improvements in the school. Leadership refers to the “process in which one person successfully exerts influence over others to reach desired objectives”. (Okoji, 2015) Good leadership involves honesty, vision, confidence and commitment. It is the ability to inspire a
