The stargate first showed up in the movie Stargate as a means to travel between galaxies in a matter of seconds. The first planet ever dialed was Abydos the primary location for which the movie was set. The movie was popular enough to get the attention of MGM Studios who got the rights to the movie and made a TV show call Stargate SG-1 and later Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe. In these series the design function of the device was greatly expanded upon to the point of even coming with a Supergate making the stargate one of the more complicated items in science fiction.
4.6 meters in diameter and weighing up to 29 metric tons the gates are made up of a rare superconductive quartzite-like mineral called Naqahdah. While all gates are made up of this material there are four distinct looks Milky Way, Pegasus, and Universe. The Milky Way gate have a distinct gray look to it with 9 orange chevrons that glow when activated and a ring

Unlike the smaller gates super gates are made up of anywhere from 80 to 90 smaller individuals pieces about 4 meters across and held together by a powerful energy field. There is no glyphs on any of the modules and very little is known how to dial the gate. After many attempts it was determined that it was also impossible to destroy once completed and powered. These gates were primarily used by the Ori to bring their motherships to the Milky Way in SG-1.
From Milky Way to Pegasus to the Universe gate the stargate has gone through many looks in the series. It always maintains the same basic principle of rapid transport across vast distances. Even going so far as to have a massive version of it powered by a black hole. The workings and history of the stargate is a lot more detailed than people
With the upcoming brand-new installment in the legendary and beloved Star Wars saga, I decided to give props to some of the greatest sci-fi movies to ever grace the silver screen. All of the movies on this list either influenced or were influenced by the Star Wars franchise in both large and small ways. Of course, this list is my own opinion; feel free to share your ideas in the comments or yell at me on twitter.Event Horizon is a 90's horror film set in deep-space that includes fantastic performances from stars like Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne. A salvaging crew is commissioned to find a lost craft called the Event Horizon designed by an eccentric Doctor played by Neill. The craft disappeared into a wormhole and when the salvage crew goes
INTRODUCTION Attention-getter: “Space travel benefits us here on Earth. And we ain’t stopped yet. There’s more exploration to come.” (Nichelle Nichols from Star Trek) Credibility: Throughout our childhood as we study space, solar systems, planets we all come to a point of having the dream of exploring the space or learn more about it in the future.
The book, “The Gateway Arch”, by Tracy Campbell discusses key points about the background on the construction of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri. In the United States of America, many monuments connected the history and the success of the nation. One important monument is the steel-made structure called the Gateway Arch that stands at a towering height of 630 feet, overlooking the Mississippi River in downtown St. Louis. In the book, "The Gateway Arch", historian Tracy Campbell takes readers through the history of the making of the iconic structure and the legacy it offered to the city of St. Louis. Through the acts of destruction, the determination of architects involved, and disagreements from fellow critics, the Gateway Arch faced
In this topology, all nodes are connected to a central device, usually a hub or a switch. Each connected device has a dedicated, point-to-point connection between the device and the hub. The star network topology is by far the most widely implemented topology in use today.
Area 51 was a top secret military base, located in southern Nevada at 37 degrees 14’06”N, 115 degrees 48’40”w. The base was also used by the CIA.Colonel hugh “slip” slater,87, was the commander in the 1960’s. Area 51 was used as a test site mainly for the military. It was a restricted area where military and CIA personnel can only access the base. In often term it is called “R-4808N or the box”.
The history of the planet's discovery is the first we have of its kind; Uranus was the first planet to be discovered with a telescope. The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the object are befitting of the odd planet. The earliest recorded sighting of Uranus was in 1690 by John Flamsteed, but the object was catalogued as another star. On March 13, 1781 Uranus was sighted again by amateur astronomer William Herschel and thought to be a comet or nebulous star. In 1784, Jean-Dominique Cassini, director of the Paris Observatory and prominent professional astronomer, made the following comment:
The Great Wall of China is one of a kind. The wall is the only man made structure visible from outer space. It might not look as great as when you are standing next to it, but is still very impressive. Annually, almost eleven million tourists go to the Great Wall of China per year. Those numbers put the wall at number twenty-six on the world’s most visited tourist attractions. The Great Pyramid of Giza, the only standing wonder left, attracts just three million people per year. The Great Wall of China shows the numbers and has the history to earn a title as a wonder of the
Have you ever wondered what extraterrestrial activity is? Have you ever wondered where aliens live? Have you ever wondered about a secret place on earth where aliens might be?
I'm at the gate that surrounds the Holofernes Geyser, staring through the chain link at the winding, iridescent pools in the dawn light, trying to remind myself that magic isn't real.
If it were raining, tough. Cold? Too bad! After asking repeatedly for the gate to be removed, I finally decided on a course of action. Late one night I filled the key hole with super glue. The stuff hardened and a key couldn't be put in.
The main entrance to the citadel was the Lion Gate. It was built in 1250 B.C and it was the only entrance and exit out of the citadel. Rock, gold and clay were the 3 main materials being used for the Lion’s Gate. There used to be gold on the lion’s head but unfortunately they’re long gone. The entrance of the gate is an example of post and lintels. A post and lintel is when two vertical stones hold a horizontal
Throughout the ages, outstanding physicists, to the movies, to some of the greatest science fiction novels of all time, have pondered the idea of time-travel. The thought of actually being able to travel to another time or universe has long since enthralled, enveloped, and overwhelmed some of the greatest minds in the history of physics. No one person can actually prove any of their theories, but a few actually make sense. Meaning that they do not violate the laws of physics. One of the main theories suggested, are wormholes. Wormholes are considered to connect two regions of flat space-time, two universes, or two parts of the same universe. There is a lot of theoretical evidence that wormholes exist, with an equal amount of evidence that they do not exist. However, no matter what one’s belief is, the existence of wormholes still makes you wonder…
To produce his new device, he started the Universal Fastener Company. The product debuted at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, but it didn't have much success.
The importance of striving to achieve personal goals is significant. Most of the time, you can’t accomplish what you want instantly, which is why you have to work hard for it. Only through hard work, is where people can reach their dreams. Every single one of the successful people in this world are hard workers. Nobody is born a hard worker, but with good enough motivation, anything is possible. If your goal is very important to you, important enough that you would be willing to spend lots of time on it, then nothing should be able to stop you.
