Karlee Barajas English 206 Section 7944 Professor Moreno The Feminist Theory The feminist theory was defined as a movement that fought for women’s rights. This movement helped all women to be heard for centuries and be treated equally as men today. Without this movement, women would not have the right to vote or the right to an education. Women would only have one job, as a stay at home housewives with no chance of obtaining a stable future for themselves. Men had better opportunities to succeed than women. However, in 1920 women gained a voice and the right to vote. There were many great women and associations that women now are treated equally. How would life be today without equal rights for both genders? Mary Wollstonecraft took a big role in the feminist theory. In these male dominated societies Wollstonecraft educated women and tried to defend their human rights. Mary recognized the task of assisting women to achieve a better life, not only for themselves and for their children, but also for their spouse. She grew up in a household filled with male dominate, her father had total control of her mother. As she grew she knew she wanted to make a different in women lives. In this essay she takes the role of an advocate for women rights. Wollstonecraft explains how hard life was for women when she was growing up. Women in her time were oppressed and denied a position in society. Throughout the essay she explains the need for women to be educated. Wollstonecraft describes “besides, how should a woman void of reflection be capable of educating her children?” The point she is trying to set across in this quote is that women cannot educate a child when she is not educated herself.
