Federico Garcia Lorca; Poeta en Nueva York
Federico Garcia Lorca born on 5 June 1898 in his cherished Andalusia, was, unfortunately for the literary world, assassinated during the Spanish Civil War on 19 August 1936. However, thankfully he did not leave this world without producing a real precious gem; his book of poetry named Poet in New York. Additionally, Lorca wrote other poetry, for example the highly praised Romancero Gitano, and he was a successful playwright as well as a theatre director in his life which had been cut short. Lorca is still considered one of the most important twentieth century writer of Spanish literature, along with other names such as; Pedro Salinas, Jorge Guillén, and Vicente Aleixandre. These poets are often referred to, in the

In 1929-1930 Lorca’s family organised an extended stay for the poet in the United States of America. It was during this period that Lorca created his masterpiece Poeta en Nueva York, which main themes represent Lorca’s state of mind during his period in the US, namely loneliness and alienation. However, Poeta en Nueva York addresses various other themes; amongst those the nostalgia for Paradise, pain of self-consciousness, a desire for the absolute, and the anguish of frustrated love. Polansky stated the following in her article; “Lorca offers forceful expressions of the excesses, the coldness, and the captivity of modern life, epitomized in the metropolitan setting.” (451). Lorca expresses, in Poeta en Nueva York, a bleak and distressing criticism against society; he felt gravely concerned about the dangers to humankind which he saw hidden in the city environment;
Dia de los reyes magos is on Jan. 5 - Feb. 2 and the day is about the 3 wisemen, But January the 6th is the special day in Mexico….. this day represents the height of the Christmas season. This celebration is where it is stated that the kings, Melchor, Gaspar, and Balthasar, traveled by night all the way from the farthest confines of the Earth to bring gifts to Jesus, whom they recognized as the Son of God. As well as regal, the Three Kings are depicted as wise men, whose very wisdom is proved by their acknowledgement of Christ's divine status. Arrived from three different directions, the kings followed the light provided by the star of Bethlehem, which reportedly lingered over the manger where the Virgin Mary gave birth for many days. In

The first article I have chosen is, “Juncture in the road: Chicano Studies Since: “El plan de Santa Barbara” by Ignacio M. Garcia. I have chosen this particular article for various reasons. One is because reading the first few paragraphs of the article stirred up many emotions within me. I found myself growing angry and once, again, repulsed by the United States discrimination system. The more knowledge I obtain on the United States, on its past and how it develops today, I can finally say that I resent everything it stands for and embarrassed being part of it. I would rather say that I am a country of one…myself. The second reason for choosing this article, was because it was an easy read for me as well as the topic being discussed was intriguing.
Little is known about Pedro de Cieza de Leon’s youth. Historians have discovered that Pedro de Cieza de Leon was a Spaniard, a conquistador, and a writer of Peru’s history. Pedro de Cieza de Leon was not well educated and had only the most basic education from his local school parish (Atlantis). Although he did not have a superior education, his four part book is reliable because he wrote about what he observed as a conquistador. This document is full of interesting information for the reader to discover the Inca’s way of living.
Through the study of the Peruvian society using articles like “The “Problem of the Indian...” and the Problem of the Land” by Jose Carlos Mariátegui and the Peruvian film La Boca del Lobo directed by Francisco Lombardi, it is learned that the identity of Peru is expressed through the Spanish descendants that live in cities or urban areas of Peru. In his essay, Mariátegui expresses that the creation of modern Peru was due to the tenure system in Peru and its Indigenous population. With the analyzation of La Boca del Lobo we will describe the native identity in Peru due to the Spanish treatment of Indians, power in the tenure system of Peru, the Indian Problem expressed by Mariátegui, and the implementation of Benedict Andersons “Imagined Communities”.
Marcario Garcia was not born in Texas; rather his parents carried him across the border from Mexico to Texas as an infant. The family settled in Sugar Land, Texas, where they worked as lowpaid farm workers and raised ten children. The land was originally owned by the Mexican government and was part of the land grant to Stephen F. Austin. Very early, sugarcane stalks from Cuba were brought to the area and a
Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, born as Juana Ramirez de Azbaje, is a well-known extraordinary figure from the colonial period. Sor Juana had a desire for education at such a young age. In the seventeenth century, it was the intellectual midpoint of Spanish colonial America. During this time Mexico City was politically and religiously the center of New Spain; the terrains went from California to Central America. In Latin American history the church and state defined women’s roles, which eventually change over time. Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz articulated her experiences though writing, she broke silence about racial and gender inequality, and her legacy remains today.

From the beginning of the story, a dreary gray New York is painted in one's mind with a depressing saddened tone of the bustling metropolis. It is a city flooded with immigrant workers hoping to better their lives and their c...
The fact that he “talks to himself,” instead of interacting with others in a city of millions where, in contrast, just around him “a couple embraces by an iron railing / she laughs and asks something,” conveys a sense of idleness (Paz 1). However, despite the fact that the old man is still immobile and inanimate in opposition to the vibrant Mexico City in which he lives, he is the one who is “alive in the middle of the night” (Paz 1). The poem conveys the notion of “present” through the motifs of time and stillness: “There is another time within time / still. / without past or future / only alive / like the old man on the bench / indivisible identical perpetual,” says the speaker near the end of the poem (Paz 6).

In the short story “ Artificial Roses” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Marquez explores guilt, and its relationship with the church, as well as in the family structure. In the story there are two main characters. Mina, a young woman, who makes a living by creating roses, out of paper and wires, and her blind grandmother. The first thing you learn about the pair is that they share a room. There is an obvious sense from Mina that she feels her personal space is invaded by her blind grandmother. As noted in the film old women are the ones who tell the stories, and have “magical powers.” But Mina is unaware of her grandmothers power of perception, and in the story Mina learns that her grandmother is quite aware of Mina’s actions. The story is essentially a battle of wits, and undeniable guilt, between the two.
Life is full of obstacles that people must overcome in order to continue. Garcia Lorca uses intense images such as watching preserved butterflies come back to life and where the mummified hand of a boy lies. His use of surrealistic events helps the reader understand Lorca’s emphasis on the brutality and disgusting outlook of life. The struggle in life to survive is a major component i...
La Tierra Prometida From the migration of nomadic people to the Americas across the Bering land bridge, to the unexpected election of Presidente Vicente Fox of the PAN party, Mexico has - and continues to be - a land of many riches. Through thick and thin, Mexico has been a part of many historically significant events throughout all of the Americas. With a gorgeous landscape, Mexico is one of the most geographically diverse countries in the world. Having such a vast and varying landscape, Mexican culture is immensely difficult to pin down to one type. Mexican politics, unlike the United States, are represented by multiple parties, but it’s difficult for the Mexican people to elect any party other than El PRI.
Performance Appraiser Typical performance reviews are between a manager and an employee. The performance appraiser usually has planned ahead papers to review to their employee. The performance appraisal is usually a one-on-one communication process that allows both employer and employee to address concerns they may be experiencing in the work environment. As noted previously, my performance review was conducted by one of three of my assistant managers.
