Towering trees surround you. Lemurs leaping between them to escape their predator, the fossa. Flowers everywhere. Endemic species call this place home. Where you may ask is this amazing place? Madagascar. The animals that live there are some of the most amazing creatures on Earth and they need our help. The rainforests of Madagascar is home to many different animals. One of the animals that live in the forests of Madagascar is the lemur. 1 Lemurs live in high in the treetops. They spend most of their time in the trees and they get everything that they need from the trees such as food and shelter. Other mammals also call the rainforest home. 1 Mammals such as the fossa, mongoose, and tenrec live in rainforests as well. The fossa hunts for it’s food in the trees. The mongoose hunts among the brush. The tenrec shelters in the trees or among the …show more content…
One reason Madagascar is the perfect environment is because it varies in the amount of rain it gets. 3 The east coast of Madagascar gets the most rain and is home to most of the island's rainforests. The west coast is much drier and is home to deciduous forests. The central section of Madagascar is highlands and gets some, but not a lot of rain. The rainforests have five layers for animals to live in. 4 With five layers to the forest there are plenty of different environments for animals to live in. Going from top to bottom there is the overstory, then the canopy, followed by the understory, shrub layer, and the forest floor. There is enough freshwater on Madagascar to support the animals that live there. 5 With the elevated highlands in the middle of Madagascar there are freshwater rivers that flow down it to the ocean. On the east side of Madagascar the rivers flood annually. The rivers on the west side don’t have quite as much water, but they still have enough. With all of these things, Madagascar is perfect for the animals that live
Madagascar is one of the most diverse areas of land that has undergone evolution totally independent from surrounding continents. The plant and animal species located on the island are all endemic to the island, meaning all are native species. The amount of diversity is very high compared to that of other continents and the species found here cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Currently all organisms located on this island are in danger, even the humans. Much damage has already been done, yet each year the land seems to die even more. Many species are dying off rapidly and drastic measures will have to be taken to stop all of these species from becoming extinct.
Madagascar, on the other hand, is a large island country off of the coast of Southern Africa. Its geography consists of highlands on the West, and rainforests on the right. Because of its’ proximity to the Indian Ocean, damage from tropical typhoons is very likely. This greatly affects infrastructure, economy, and the lives of many people, as recovery efforts soak up the use of capital. Its population is about 22 million people. Even though they have experienced positive growth, a mere 1.6% in 2011, Madagascar is still below African growth averages. (African Economic Outlook)
Imperialism in Madagascar When someone is talking about Madagascar usually they are talking about the huge cockroaches people have to eat on Fear Factor but there is so much more to the country than that. During a time when land was being snatched up and claimed by many Euro-Asia countries little had any right or reason to have the land. This time of imperialism effected economic markets, religion, and many other things pertaining to the Malagasy.
they also live in other types of forests in Madagascar. Lemurs can only be found living in
The way of the Lemurs evolution is very particular. Once, Madagascar was attached to the African Continent, but Madagascar separated from the mainland of Africa. Therefore, this is the reason why the Lemurs still exist today, thanks to Madagascar's isolation. This is the reason that the Lemurs have not changed much from their ancestors. In order to avoid other primates and predators the Lemurs became nocturnal, so they were able to survive. “Note the large eyes, a nocturnal adaptation, typical of both ancient and modern prosimians who are active at night.” (Larsen, 2014). However, what they could not avoid was the threats of humans, even though humans evolved from them. As Larsen states; “The five types of vertebrae in primates, including lemurs and humans, create a flexible column allowing a wide range of movement. The cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae are the true, or movable, vertebrae, responsible for bending, twisting, and stretching.” (Larsen, p. 164). As a result of this mobility, the locomotion behaviors of the Lemurs is that they walk quadrupedal and they do leaping horizontally from branch to branch. To do this, the Lemurs developed strong muscles and flexibility, but also the ability to stand straight
When many hear about a lemur, they immediately think of the movie Madagascar and the fun loving role that is played by the lemur King Julien; similarly, when hearing the name Madagascar, many think of the land of the lemurs. However, what would happen if there were no more lemurs? This is a harsh but readily approaching reality of Madagascar today. Lemurs are known as the world’s most endangered mammals, and specifically the Simpona, otherwise known as the Silky Sifaka lemur, is critically endangered. If treatments of Madagascar’s habitat, specificity the small mountainous area of northeastern Madagascar where the Simpona lemur reside, continue being treated as they are today, this will not only lead to the complete extinction of this rare Lemur, but it will also affect the economic standing in Madagascar as a whole. Therefore, it is vital to recognize the solutions and act on them in order to prevent these devastating occurrences.
The reason i picked the amazon rainforest is because it is unique. The reason that i think that is because it cool unlike my home town. Everything about the amazon is unique. Thats why i picked it.
Sifaka lemurs live alongside other similar animal species in their habitat. There is a wide range of lemur species living in Madagascar such as the bamboo lemur, the black lemur, dwarf lemurs, and many other lemur species. Lemurs fill the niche of the dominant primate species in Madagascar. There are nearly sixty taxa and thirty-three different species of lemurs in Madagascar. It is also predicted that within the next generation of lemurs there may be up to twenty more species

The growing issue of the welfare of wild animals has called for immense concerns for multiple reasons. Even so, more now today with the recent animal related incidents that have taken place and are publicized in social media and broadcasted on the local news. An ideal habitat for wild animals varies from marine life having billions of cubic km of ocean water to land animals having forests, evergreens, dry desert land, marshes, caves, mountains and open fields to roam.
Madagascar’s cuisine can be clearly marked by its sheer simplicity. The food is prepared without too many spices, but the lack of spices does not make the food dull and bland. Cuisines of France, China, India and also East African and Arabian cultures have all made their influence felt in Madagascar. The traditional cuisine of Madagascar consists mainly of rice. The rice is called “Vary” and it is typically eaten with some accompaniment, which is called the “Laoka”. As you move down the country towards the southwest regions, you will get to eat rice that may be supplemented or replaced by ground maize. However rice is the main diet of the natives, and is available in bounty. The native people have become very resourceful in developing huge numbers of scrumptious preparations with this one simple grain.
The primates that I observed at the Santa Ana Zoo were the black and white Ruffed Lemurs, which are prosimian primates. These were the most unexciting primates because they were not doing anything during my observation. In addition, black-and-white Ruffed Lemurs are found in the eastern part of the Madagascar rainforest. During my observation, the lemurs were just sitting and lounging around. At one point, one of the lemurs stood up and vocalized, what appeared to be its dominance. Although the Santa Ana
I have read that the aye aye is a lemur that is found inhabited in the rain forests of madagascar. There is one set of species that is this type, its habitat is very dense and very dry. The aye aye is closely related to the lemur species their colors are brown and sandy white, and they are very ugly. It spends most of all its life living high in the trees. The male aye ayes climb high up the trees and cover 4km at night because they search for food. Whenever the aye aye was first discovered, it was so strange in appearance that it was thought to be a large species of a squirrel they spend their entire life in the rainforest of the trees because of the fact that they do not want to come down to earth the aye ayes are nocturnal meaning they

Rwanda, is a very small country located in Central Africa and has many customs and traditions. To begin with, the people of Rwanda celebrate the major Christian holidays such as Christmas and Easter. They also celebrate Roman Catholic holidays like Ascension Day and All Saint’s Day. However, all the traditional festivals are no longer national holidays. The two main foods are beans and plantains which are usually put together. Only the rich eat meat, which is usually goat because it’s the most common. Since one of the most valued foods there is beef it is only eaten if a cow or bull is sacrificed. Also, folklore is a very widespread custom in Rwanda because they have so many legends, stories and poems. Most of the folklore was written in the
