They built the greatest tombs so the world would know their bounty for all time - the last of the greatest wonders of the world, The Pyramids of Giza. The history of Giza spans over 5,000 years. Giza is most known today for the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, The Great Pyramid is the biggest. In Giza there are nine pyramid. Most people only know that there are three. The largest of the pyramids in Giza is known as The Great Pyramid. It is The Great Pyramid of Khufu. Khufu’s pyramid took about 20 years to build, 2575-2566 BC. The pyramid was built during three months of each year during the annual flood from the Nile River, when farming was impossible. It took 100,000 people to build Khufu’s pyramid. The workers were treated very well by the Pharaoh, who provided them with good clothing and food. The Pharaoh was kindly remembered in folk tales for many centuries. The question of how the pyramids were constructed has still not received an exact answer yet. The best theory is the Egyptians employed sloping and encircling embankment of brick, earth, and sand, which increased in height and length as the pyramid rose. Stone blocks were hauled up the ramp by levers and rollers. The Great Pyramid’s sides rise at an angle of 51°52′. It is oriented to the 4 cardinal points of the compass.
