Why are the cheetahs going extinct? The cheetahs now live in Africa and Southwest Asia. They have lost about 91% of their habitat in the nature. (Park) The cheetahs need a lot of space to live in. These animal are the fastest mammals on Earth so they need more land to hunt and run in. Humans give more pressure to the animals by illegal trading, eating the food that the cheetahs eat, and taking the cheetahs’ habitat. (Park) There are lot more humans now than there were when the cheetahs were not considered endangered so the cheetahs are losing most of their habitat. Humans who live in Africa and southwest Asia are living in place the space which is pushing back the cheetahs, leaving them a little space to live in. Humans are also eating other
Hey, I didn’t see you there, how are you?I'm just wondering whether or not a big ol' grizzly bear is going to come charging at me at any point in my life, but seeing as grizzly bears are endangered that probably won't happen. In the past, there were thought to be around 50,000 grizzly bears in North America, nowadays they are growing sparse there are estimated to be only around 1800, now not even a 20th of the population in the past. Most of these grizzlies are located in Yellowstone National Park and Alaska, but they can also be found in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and Montana. Some are thought to be in Washington.
The destruction of their habitat and destruction are the two great threats to the gorillas. The places where they are found are poor and densely populated. The land that is set aside for gorillas is being taken over by agriculture. The wire traps that poachers set out for antelope usually end up catching gorillas instead. People kill them for their heads and hands as trophies. The western lowland gorilla is listed as an endangered species.
Josh Boylan, Crawford County Coon Club President states, “Raccoons are one of the smartest animals”. As a veteran coon hunter, he has encountered numerous amounts of raccoon. Not only does he say that raccoons are one of the smartest, he also states they are one of the meanest animals that he has encountered in close quarters, “They will attack anything, they may get there ass kicked in some of the battles, but they will give it hell.”
Have you ever wondered about gorillas? A gorilla is a very strong built great ape with a large head and short neck. Gorillas are the largest member of the primate family. Gorillas are quiet, shy, peaceful, and live in central Africa and tropical rainforests. Several thousand years ago, gorillas split from its closest relative the chimpanzees. There are four types of gorillas, being Eastern lowland, Western lowland, mountain, and cross river gorillas. Ecology is how organism interact with one another and the environment. It is the study of relationships between two living organisms.
Kolbet then goes on the tell that this is due to invasive species: species that are introduced to an area where they are not native. This can lead to two outcomes: either the species will not be well suited for the new environment, and as such will die out very quickly, or the new species will flourish and the organisms that lived there before will be killed as they have no defense mechanisms to defend themselves. Humans are the leading cause of invasive species, as we transport organisms around the world. Kolbert then moves to chapter eleven in which she visits a zoo and finds a sumatran rhino that is one of five that are still living on the planet. These rhinos were once found all over the Himalayas, however when they began to become endangered, people swooped in to try to save the species. The people saved some rhinos, however the rhinos were unable to live under the various conditions that existed in the zoos. Eventually, they decided to artificially inseminate the rhinos, in hopes that the species would continue living. Kolbert then asks a question: why is it that giant animals go extinct so quickly? It is theorized that climate change could have killed many species, but the more likely answer is that humankind killed these giant animals. Prior to the rise of mankind, being a large creature was advantageous,
Amongst social mammals, spotted hyaenas (crocuta crocuta) display a number of unusual traits, including high maternal investment, strong sibling rivalry that may lead to siblicide, female dominance, and masculinization of female genitalia. (1) This paper will concentrate on the masculinization of female genitalia but will also touch on the other traits listed.
According to The Cheetah Spot, the cheetah’s native habitats have been cut down to less than a quarter of what they were ten years ago. This makes release of captive cheetahs not only difficult, but possibly hazardous to cheetahs already in the wild. Due to the fact that they are mostly solitary animals, females live alone unless raising cubs and males roam with, at most, four other males (NZP). Introducing more cheetahs into an already small area may very well upset the social system of cheetahs by putting them in too much contact with each other.
In 1860, a French American zoologist was exploring the volcanic mountains in Africa, while walking through the forest he stumbled upon gorillas. This travelers name was Paul Du Chaillu’s, he was born in Paris, France July 31, 1835. To prove to people that he found these animals, he began to hunt them down and kill them turning him into a poacher. In 1903 Paul Du Chaillu’s died. A year before he died Mountain Gorillas were discovered in 1902 by Captain Robert von Beringe.
If you’re walking over the Kansas prairie and see thousands of little holes and wonder what they are, you’ve probably stumbled upon a prairie dog town.
Hi! Do you know what a prairie dog is? I bet you don't. If you want to be an expert in prairie dogs then keep reading on!
Koalas are located in the Southeastern and eastern part of Australia. One reason why they are located there is because of the Blue Gum trees. Frogs are located in every continent in the world exept for Antarctica because of the ponds and water streams. Both Koalas and Frogs are becoming extinct. Frogs population is dying. Koalas population dropped after farmers cut down many of the forests where Koalas lived and hunters killed the animals for their fur. Also Koalas are losing their home. For example wild goats eat the small Blue Gum trees. Meaning Koalas would run out of food. As we know both Koala and Frogs have similarites but they also have lots of differences.
slow extinction, or did it happen all of the sudden? These questions bring rise to many
Zebras are native to eastern and Southern Africa. Their habitats are arid savannas, grasslands and woodlands. Zebras are able to digest many different types of vegetation. This allows them to migrate to many different areas without having to face starvation. Africa is home to many predators including lions, leopards, and hyenas. In order to combat against a great amount of predators, zebras have developed many senses in order to survive. Zebras have excellent eyesight and superior night vision. But like their stripes, they only see in black and white. Their eyes sit on the side of their heads to give them a full range of vision. Usually, zebras prefer to stay in open areas in order to see incoming predators and to escape if necessary. If
The cheetah is known as a very interesting animal for many reasons. One of the prime examples of why so many people believe the cheetah is such an amazing animal is because of the speed it contains. For example, the cheetah can accelerate to speeds of over sixty miles per hour in a matter of three seconds, which is in fact, faster than some cars.(Cheetah facts, about cheetahs 1). Believe it or not, sixty miles per hour isn’t the fastest a cheetah can run! The fastest recorded time for a cheetah’s running speed was seventy five miles per hour while using their tails to steer. (Murray 1) (One Kind, Cheetahs 1). For example, cheetahs can turn in midair when they’re at a full sprint, which is pretty amazing. (One Kind, Cheetahs 1). Another reason the cheetah is such an incredible animal to observe is their hunting ability. Cheetahs are often predators in the wild, which means they hunt other
Everyone’s all seen those wildlife shows on tv. The shows on National Geographic and such, showing animals in beautiful environments, everything lush and growing and nothing at all wrong that could threaten these creatures and places. But, have anyone seen the other side? The side where all these beautiful creatures and plants starve, are decimated by predators that have never been there before, and sometime even become poisoned by their very own homes and habitats? Of course no one has. That doesn’t mean that its not happening. It is happening, and its happening everywhere. And guess who is to blame? People. Society. Humans as a race pollute the environment, hunt animals simply for their parts, fish way more than humans will ever need just for the sake of money, introduce new species to new places for our own gain, and even purposefully destroy entire regions just for human expansion. And its starting to take its toll. While it is true that nature is constantly in flux and certain species come and go, humans are causing more species to disappear in the past few hundred years then nature has ever caused since the age of the dinosaurs, and therefore it is up to humans to repair the damage caused, be it cleaning the environment and habitats of these creatures, or taking more direct action to protect and preserve the species that are on the brink of extinction.
