Resarch Paper Proposal: The Box Jellyfish
As far back as I can trace my memories I remember that as a child I always liked to be in the water. Swimming pools were my absolute favorite. Wherever I went, I would always ask if there was a swimming pool. However, things changed when my parents took me to Florida for the first time. When I looked out onto the ocean my parents told me that the first words that came out of my mouth were, “Look mom, dad it’s a huge swimming pool!” I bet anyone can guess what happened next; I took off on a mad dash right into the ocean. The thing is, it was nothing like a swimming pool, but it seemed so much better. Over time, I became fascinated with all of its characteristics and still, I am unbelievably captivated by the ocean.
When I found out about our multi-genre research paper and how we could pick absolutely any topic we wanted to write about, I had no idea what to choose. I had a few things run through my mind, for example, things that have been of interest to me lately, but none seemed to be good enough for me to write about. Then, so...
With the Multi Genre papers, I chose to write about baseball, the history of it, how it works, and how big it still is today. I actually used to play baseball when I was around 13-14 years old, and that’s how I was able to connect with it. I've actually learned more about baseball after doing some of these papers, especially about Jackie Robinson.
The ocean is mysterious to mankind. The unfathomable vastness of the ocean intrigues humanity into exploring it. In life, the immense possibilities that lie in the future compel us to reach for the stars. In the poem “The Story” by Karen Connelly, an individual willingly swims into deep waters even though they are fearful of what may exist in the waters. The swimmer later finds out that their fears were foolish, which illustrates the human tendency to venture into the unknown. The theme conveyed in this poem is that life is like a rough, uncertain, uncontrollable ocean that we must find get through with experience.
The smell of the restaurants faded and the new, refreshing aroma of the sea salt in the air took over. The sun’s warmth on my skin and the constant breeze was a familiar feeling that I loved every single time we came to the beach. I remember the first time we came to the beach. I was only nine years old. The white sand amazed me because it looked like a wavy blanket of snow, but was misleading because it was scorching hot. The water shone green like an emerald, it was content. By this I mean that the waves were weak enough to stand through as they rushed over me. There was no sense of fear of being drug out to sea like a shipwrecked sailor. Knowing all this now I knew exactly how to approach the beach. Wear my sandals as long as I could and lay spread out my towel without hesitation. Then I’d jump in the water to coat myself in a moist protective layer before returning to my now slightly less hot towel. In the water it was a completely different world. While trying to avoid the occasional passing jellyfish, it was an experience of
I smiled to myself and decided that I would go join in. With that, I took a huge deep breath and jumped into the salty water. The water was cool and refreshing; I felt it slide through my hair making it sway in the water. I swam deeper and deeper into the deep blue water. Sunlight streamed through it, lighting up the water around me turning it to gold. I kicked harder and I felt my muscles surge with strength and I pushed further. My lunges began to burn for the need of oxygen, but I refused to go up. I repeatedly told myself just a little bit longer. Until I was unable to proceed anymore without more air in my lungs, I swam to the top of the water taking a huge breaths, filling my lungs with air. I could then taste the salty water as it ran down my face and dripped over my lips. Just then I thought, I will never forget this moment, this place, or the experiences I felt while visiting
Although I am writing this reflection before the paper has been graded or have had much of any feedback on this paper, I still feel quite confident about it for a few reasons. Firstly, the multi-genre paper was the paper where I felt the most creatively free and motivated. Consequently, I actually enjoyed making it, and I had little to no problems with developing content once I chose my topic. Secondly, due to my paper 's very unconventional and innovative repetend method, my teacher thought it was so impressive that she immediately showed my paper to the class as soon as she saw it. The class also responded quite well to my paper. My biggest regret with this paper was that, even though I submitted the assignment early, I did not have enough time to do all of the things I wanted to. For example, if the assignment allowed me another week to work on it, I would have written a song, complete with music and lyrics, for it, among other things. Still, I feel that this paper was a decent return to form for my
When we look up to the night sky, there are beautiful, sparkling things that can not be taken away to make a wonderful gorgeous night. There are the stars and the moon which make the night sky shining, shimmering, and have inspired people to paint and discover their special features. On the other hand, we also have stars which are close to us and are as fascinating as the stars up in the sky; they are called: sea stars.
There are many reasons the ocean is my favorite place to be. These range from the atmosphere and people at the ocean to the scenery experienced while there. It is a time for me to be free from all the hassles in my life and to "get away from it all," even if it is only for a week. The ocean should be enjoyed for what it is. Loud noise and all the hustle and bustle of boardwalks should not exploit it. At the ocean I can feel at home and at peace because it is my favorite place to be.
Have you ever wanted to slap eight people at once? Or if you're more of a mushy, touchy, feely person, have you ever wanted to hug eight people at once? An octopus can do either or both of these if they want to! So you know an octopus is lucky being able to do this but what's an octopuses habitat? Since they can slap eight things at once do they have predators? Or since we're on the facty facts subject where do they live?
The giant pacific octopus is in the kingdom Animalia because it is multicellular, eukaryotic, and has no cell walls. In addition to this, the giant pacific octopus reproduces sexually and has cells that are used for specific functions. (Kalupa, 2012)
Comb jellies or Ctenophores are basically fake jellyfish. Like jellyfish they are transparent are transparent, but these lacking stinging cells are basically giant balls of see-through goo. These balls of goo are located throughout most marine environments, at varied depths and temperatures they are very good conformers. The most prominent feature of Ctenophores is their cilia. Cilia are hair-like structures that are used to help this species swim. Being fake jellyfish the comb jellies are extremely predacious, they entrap food and suck them up and are known for being cannibalistic and swallowing each other whole.
Before I could start with a credible research paper, I had to come up with a topic I was ...
we were given many topics to choose from. They had to at least have something to do
So here I am trying to think of something to write about that will go beyond a theme. My writing experiences have been pretty narrow minded. Basicly, if the writing was not in a theme format, I immediately excluded it. From elementary school and to today, research papers in theme formats were expected. I was not taught how to write in any other way. I figured that if my writing was accepted, if I got A's on them, and if the teachers never hinted as to any other way to write, there must be only ONE TRUE WAY TO WRITE! How Hitler-ish. Just as Hitler was wanting to rule the world of people, theme writing was to rule the world of writing.
As I walked down the worn dirt path to the ocean, I was astonished by how many people were lounging by the water.. As I got closer to the water’s edge, I contemplated why more people don 't swim and decide to tan in the sun instead. The feeling of being alone with the ocean and my thoughts played in my mind.
Have you ever visited a place so beautiful and serene that you couldn’t imagine a more stunning place? For me, it is the shimmering and flowing waters of the ocean. The way that the deep blue waters meet the gritty beige sand leaves me in such awe. The water is like a soft blanket, comforting and inviting. The unique wildlife and vegetation that exists on the beach is something I’ve never seen anywhere else. There is no place more beautiful and thrilling than the beach.
