Renting Books
Have you ever thought how to save some money from buying books for college? Well, forget about buying anything! Rent the books, like I did on “www.chegg.com”, the online web-page where students and everyone else can find the books to rent instead of buying them and spending more money.
When I heard about the website for the first time from a student who studies at the same college as me, I was surprised that renting books through the internet is even possible, because I did not realize before, that this kind of service is provided for people online. This ad is unique to the students’ audience primarily. Socially and culturally, it addresses issues of saving money.
Once I visited the renting page, and I paid for some books, I liked everything about it. The idea of giving students an opportunity to save some money attracted and even forced me to tell some of my friends about a great chance to get the books for a cheaper price. I was very happy not to overpay for books, which I need for one semester only. I also liked the way the page looks: quite friendly and attractive with orange color, showing the following steps of ordering books and shipping. The non-stop counting timer shows how much money the website helped students to save. On the bottom of the page there are some comments from the students about how happy they are to rent the books, and the box with the thirty-days guarantee terms.
Another thing that also impressed me about www.chegg.com is that it had all kinds of books I needed for my classes, and it was absolutely easy to find all of them by using the search bar. Moreover, I could switch the date that I needed to return my books. It left a positive impression about the web-page service as well.

...ercharged. Unfortunately, many students, including myself, feel overcharged in the beginning of semester after paying more than five hundred dollars for books from the college store. Of course, some students do not really care about how much money they spend for books. However, the over students can not effort buying expensive books, because they try to save some money to pay for tuition.
That is why I was very excited when I found the renting books advertisement in the internet. I did not have enough money to buy all the books from the college store. Thus, after using the website, I saved about five hundred dollars on my English, Accounting, History, Economics, Business, and Anthropology books. It is a great feeling when you save some money in a smart way. Next semester I am definitely going to rent from www.chegg.com again, and invite my friends to rent with me.
This article, “Why Are Textbooks So Expensive?” by Henry Roediger reveals the truth of why textbooks are so pricey. He shows how textbooks prices are costly not because of inflation, corporate textbook companies, and frequent revisions, but because of the sale of used textbooks. The article is elaborating on why used textbooks are the real culprit as well. One main point that is highlighted is that used textbooks are resold for many years. The initial selling of the textbook is the only time the author will make a profit, but the bookstore will make a profit every time they resell a used book. It is essential for the author to raise the price to compensate for the loss of money when dealing with used textbooks.
Richard Wright, in his essay “Discovering Books,” explains how reading books changed his outlook on life and eventually his life itself. The first book that widened his horizons was an overtly controversial book by H. L. Mencken. I have a story not so dissimilar from his.
In order to best understand why implementing such a loan program would be most beneficial to the students one must understand why textbook prices have spiraled out of control. The problem lies with textbook pub...
There is no escaping the fact that the cost of college tuition continues to rise in the United States each year. To make it worse, having a college degree is no longer an option, but a requirement in today’s society. According to data gathered by the College Board, total costs at public four-year institutions rose more rapidly between 2003-04 and 2013-14 than they did during either of the two preceding decades (Collegeboard.com). Students are pressured to continue into higher education, but yet, the increasing costs of books and tuition make us think twice. Sometimes, some of these students have to leave with their education partially finished, leaving them with crushing debts.
The cost of college is expensive. Anyone who wants to eventually attend college full-time or even part-time must pay ridiculously high fees. College tuition can vary, but a normal community college can usually start at $2,000 per term or even costing $3,500per term. Tuition sometimes includes fees for living on campus too. Even though some might not live on campus, students usually rent a room somewhere else to be close to school. Text books are usually some of the extra fees that are part of college. It is required for almost every class, and could end up costing a few hundred dollars for a class. Besides the tuition and the books there is still expected fees for most students that include transportation and food. Both could usually cost an easy $50-$75 dollars a week.
... student fees going to help with textbook purchase they go towards the purchase of a digital notebook or computer or similar device. Whether these are a Mac platform or a Microsoft platform we will need to be ready to make these changes.
College isn’t all about bookwork. College is a place to have and experience new things. If a ceiling was set on tuition there would be almost no money to fund extracurricular activities such athletic and cultural facilities and other programs. Also colleges would not be able to pay for extensive libraries and new technology for students without tuition.
Those who think a college education is not worth it believe that college can become a setback in life due to the thousands of dollars that college students are spending on tuition and books. Students who attend college will not have the money to purchase a home, spend money on family, vacations, or any other costly items and bills. On the other hand, most college students end up paying for their college loans all of their life or go into debt. They will never have money to rely on since their credit cards will be racking up interest for college loans that need to be paid off. As stated by Paul Taylor in Michelle Adam’s report, the cost of a college education has been at a record level and the cost of tuition and fees has more than tripled which is causing a rise in student debt (58). With rising prices, the economy is making it more difficult for people to afford a college education.
In conclusion, America provides many ways to help reduce the cost of college textbooks but society is still not satisfied with the outcome. The Open Textbook, Affordable Textbook Act, and book store rentals are wonderful programs, but has its disadvantages that hopefully would be resolved in the 2016 presidential elections. The statistics show that many students across the nation benefit from learning with quality of teaching, the amount of accessibility it provides without having to worry about paying off student loans. School administrations should consider about transferring to an act that would benefit both the school and the students, but also provide more equality to the publishers and students.
It is a quite nice, which made it easier to accomplish my assignments. When I needed to print out a paper for a class, I would use the printer available at the library. There were times, I would even scan or copy documents that were job related. When professors assigned group projects, it became challenging trying to find a location where members of the group can meet and complete the assignment. Another service the library offers is the group study room. Students and facility are able to reserve the room for academic purposes.
A similar interest group is the New Jersey Public Interest Research Group (NJPIRG) at the Rutgers University. According to studentpirgs.org, NJPIRG students have been “working in conjunction to help lower the financial burden of college students.” Researching the issue, NJPIRG students found out that students pay around $ 1’500 per year for textbook. They so decided to create a program (OAT) to incentivize professors to switch to open textbooks. “The program awards 32 grants worth $1,000 each to faculty and instructors across the university who chose to adopt, remix or create a free or low cost textbook, as an alternative to traditional course materials.” The OAT program saved students a total of 1.6 million in solely two

During the past few years, the publishing and reading world has been facing a veritable digital book onslaught. E-books have been outselling print books on Amazon since 2011 (Polanka, 7). While digital book sales skyrocketed, print book sales, especially those of mass marked paperbacks, diminished. Even the fact that e-books are not much cheaper than print books does not seem to interfere with the former’s popularity. It would seem that the age of print books is about to end, and quite soon.
Getting educated is one of the most important things in life when it comes to getting a good future. By developing good knowledge of schooling, it helps establish and maintain new information as needed throughout the real world. As books are one the essential tools in learning, eBooks are being used in a everyday lifestyle. Traveling to get away places from city life, helps give reading a comforting feel. Students that use print books are eventually going to use ebooks in the future. By educating students with ebooks, it is more efficient than carrying textbooks; ebooks is more convenient and reliable to read, write and store notes. Print books are being replaced by eBooks, it helps on keeping files together and it makes notes
Some years ago, with the arrival of digital technology, the process of reading has been changed to make it easier for everybody; therefore digital books are replacing the actual physical books. In spite of the fact that paper books and digital books are very similar in some ways, such as tittle pages, copyright page, covers, chapters or tables of contents; they present a visual and a sensory difference. In fact, they have a similar action that gives benefits but drawbacks at the same time. Paper books are tangible, accomplishment, easy to share; they have a unique aroma, and a sensitive side. But people should take in consideration that digital books are the better choice, because they are portable, convenient, cheap in price, and easy to manipulate, not to mention that anybody is able to have an bunch of them in only one file, either their phones or
