To reflect on my learning experiences on module 2 which was ‘Structure of Global Capitalism’, this module had supported me to develop an understanding of trade and operations of the international financial institutions such as the WTO, the IMF and the World Bank. Moreover, this module also helped me to develop a clear knowledge of the interests that underpin these international institutions, and a balanced understanding of the main issues confronting these institutions. In this module, there were two readings that I found interested, say ‘Two Cheers for Sweatshops’ by Nicholas D. Kristof & Sheryl Wudunn, and ‘Sweatshops are still supplying high street brands’ by Madeleine Bunting. For the first reading, ‘Two Cheers for Sweatshops’ by Nicholas & Sheryl, the two authors had established a great argument by balancing the positive and negative effects of sweatshops on workers in developing …show more content…

Moreover, the majority of issues were from popular brands, say Adidas, Nike, GAP (Bunting, 2011, pp.1). Strictly speaking, the author had done a great job in raising the awareness for consumers about poor working conditions. However, according to ‘Two Cheers for Sweatshops’ reading, Asian labours would be horrified at the idea of consumers boycotting certain product in protest because they don't know what they would do then. In fact, workers were happy and regarded it as a positive that the managers permitted them to work extra hours. Therefore, I think Madeleine the author had delivered unfair and biased argument by only offering drawbacks of sweatshops and totally ignored the benefits. The reading could distort the actual scenario and it did not help me to acquire a whole image of
