The words of kindness and fame consist in my name Khyati Shah. I am a female who was born in the cold and snowy month of December in the year of 1996. My family is from India and we speak a language called Gujarati in my household. My parents came to America three years before I was born, and the place I was born in is Charlotte, NC. Being a female has impacted my life based on the topic of physical appearances. According to Indian ethnic demographic variables I am expected to maintain “light” skin because that is what is considered beautiful. I would describe myself as a feminist because I believe in advocating for women’ s rights. My goals for this course include learning about women throughout history, and for my final grade I am striving …show more content…
Since this is what many Indian women think, a lot of Indian girls use skin glowing serums on their face because they think that it will instantly make their skin hold up to the societies expectations. I to have had moments where I do this to myself and although using skin serums is not completely bad, there is a difference in between making your skin look a certain way just for yourself and for other people. I have come to realize that people must accept me for what I naturally look like and that different cultures are always going to have their own ideas as to what beauty is, but a person is truly beautiful when they are able to confidently support what God gave …show more content…
I consider myself a feminist because being a women myself I understand the struggles a women faces. In todays society there are still women who get paid less compared to every dollar a man gets paid. Women who face rape and domestic violence suffer from trauma that doesn’t go away. Girls in certain countries are still treated as if they don’t deserve an education that is equal in comparison to the boys in their countries. The reason why I am a feminist is because I would like to make a difference and prove that women can do anything a man can do. I believe that feminist movements can make an impact in the way how women are mistreated based off of
Feminism is a movement dedicated to the fight for women's rights with the conviction that women and men are equal and entitled to the same opportunities. Feminist criticism concern itself with stereotypical representations of genders. (Dobie) When reading through a feminism view the reader must keep in mind many questions such as what are the male and female power structure and what woman stereotypes are present
The term feminist is seen with a negative connotation because people use it as an insult against women in an effort to make them seem irrational and unfair, but in reality it is the exact opposite of that. Feminism is defined as the “belief in or advocacy of women’s social, political, and economic rights, especially with regard to equality of the sexes.” (Feminism). There is no reason that there should be a negative connotation to this belief or participation in advancing this belief, yet there is. This battle and struggle for equal rights has been going on for a very long time, but it really took off in the 1920s. The 19th amendment and The New Woman really helps to show how quickly women and their rights progressed in the United States. Many
Personally, I do not know how should I think about feminism appropriately or what is the ideal way to think about this word. Since there are no significant differences between male and female, except physical aspects, the inequality between females and male has remained for several thousand years. it is necessary for human beings in contemporary society to think about this issue seriously because females have to voice for themselves and discriminations have to be eliminated progressively.
With the strong belief and desire to have equality for all people, feminists shape our society in ways to which they fight for the betterment of humans. “Feminist” is a genderless and raceless noun, meaning anyone can be a feminist if they please. Feminism is performed and executed differently amongst varying communities—such as white, black, or brown communities. There are no written procedures one must do or go through to become a part of feminism. The only requirements for feminism are having the personal want for equality, and the personal preference to be labeled as a feminist. Many times, people think of feminism to be a movement in which women try to become superior to men. Along with this, being called a “feminist” to some is frowned upon and seen as a form of domination. These thoughts tend to be due to the lack of understanding feminism. What many people believe to be the hatred for men and the

The subjective element of beauty involves judgment, not opinion. Many people feel beauty is only something seen by the eyes. St. Thomas Aquinas views beauty in both the supernatural and natural orders. Aquinas lists the attributes of beauty to be found in nature. These are; unity, proportion, and clarity. We will see how these attributes of beauty are seen through the eye and felt by the heart.
AA theory by Clive Bell suggests the pinpoints the exact characteristic which makes a work true art. According to Bell, an artwork must produce “aesthetic emotion” (365). This aesthetic emotion is drawn from the form and formality of an artwork rather than whether or not it is aesthetically pleasing or how well it imitates what it is trying to depict. The relation of objects to each other, the colors used, and the qualities of the lines are seemingly more important than what emotion or idea the artwork is trying to provoke. Regardless of whether or not the artwork is a true imitation of certain emotions, ideals, or images, it cannot be true art unless it conjures this aesthetic emotion related to formality (367).
Feminism is the movement towards women’s equality. It fights for equal rights in the social, political, cultural and economical aspects for women. Feminism also fights for equal opportunity for women in employment and education. A feminist is someone who advocates their support for women’s rights but is not restricted to only women; anyone who supports women’s rights and equality are feminists, including men. Feminism is not only about the females, it fights for gender equality for all. Feminist movements, or Women’s movements, campaign for reforms in household issues with domestic violence, political issues with equal pay, employment and maternity leave, and reproduction rights. All feminism movements fight for equal rights, but it cannot be conquered or be made known all at once. First wave feminism was mostly about women’s suffrage and political equality in general. Second wave feminism went more in depth about the social and cultural inequalities.
Beauty can be used to describe a vast array of things—a baby’s first laugh, a trek through the Grand Canyon, Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune. At first glance, these so-called “beautiful” items seem disconnected. Yet oddly enough, they are all considered beautiful. So what exactly classifies an object as beautiful? To even some of the world’s greatest philosophers, the idea of beauty remains an enigma. Is beauty a universal concept able to be defined or is it strictly perceived in the mind of the individual? While ideas of beauty are to some degree a matter of personal preference, they are also influenced by the social norms surrounding us; thus, beauty exists in the culturally-conditioned eye of the beholder.
The definition of beauty is varying among different people in the world. Even though almost everyone knows the term beauty, many people are struggling in defining it and persuading others to agree with their opinions. Beauty is defined by a combination of qualities existent in a person or thing that fulfills the aesthetic feels or brings about profound gratification. Many people define beauty as a term to describe a person’s physical appearance; they often think that beauty comes from magazines, video girls, or even models. Although the term beauty can define a person’s physical appearance, true beauty lies in the way one acts and thinks rather than the way one look.
All young girls in America can remember watching the movie Beauty and the Beast by Walt Disney. At that time, it was a story of love and triumph, a girl falls in love and gets her prince charming. As we grow older, we question that movie and its intentions that we were too young to understand. Who is the real beauty and who is the real beast? A puzzling question due to our society constantly telling us how we need to look and be perceived as in order to not be “the beast” and more of “the beauty”.
Beauty has differed through time, different cultures and perceptions of the world. It’s not easy to define beauty, you could say that there are “a thousand” definitions of beauty. And there are numerous degrees of each. “Beauty depends on the eye of the beholder”. This saying is correct because what one individual considers beautiful is not necessarily what another individual may consider beautiful. Someone “beautiful on the outside” can be “ugly inside”. The media and the society are constantly using the conception of “beauty” to show us what we should strive to be. They assert that we have to appear a certain way to be viewed as beautiful. This is wrong, so what is beauty, really, and what different ways of looking at beauty are there?
Beauty can be seen by a person in several ways, and it is perceived by most to be only skin-deep. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “It is the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” Additionally, the definition from the Oxford Dictionary says, “Beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.” In short, beauty is described as something attractive and likeable to the eyes. Nonetheless, beauty should not be seen on a physical level, but it should also encompass a person’s character. To further elaborate and understand beauty, one should know how the media perceives beauty towards
There are so many different opinions on what beauty is. The idea of beauty is purely opinionated. Beauty is your own idea, skinny or thick, long hair or short hair, light skin or dark skin. How people define beauty is unique in many different ways everyone has a different opinion. No ones idea of beauty is the same. In society today it has become more materialistic based if you wear the latest designer or you have the newest pair of sneakers out and the true meaning of being beautiful has escaped our souls. Beauty is not just what we see on the outside it is so much deeper then what we see its what we also have to offer on the inside.Your intelligence is beauty your mind, body, and soul. Beauty is not a single image, but the active embodiment
How do you judge if someone is beautiful for the first time you see them? By physical appearance is the most popular answer you may find. To the majority of people, beauty is solely depended on how a person look like on the outside. However, some might argue that inner beauty has to do more than outer appearance. It is difficult to fully define beauty because everyone has their own views about beauty. In my view, beauty has to deal with one’s self as the only rival.
