“Sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination,” is stated by Drake. The journey maybe over but the destination is beautiful. Through this experience I have grow not only as a person but also a little muscle. The journey began that March 10th night and it ends at my county fair this April. Without the help of my sponsors, this journey would not have been possible.
After catching the calf at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, I knew it would be a good year. My goal that I wanted to achieve through this project was to win a buckle. I wanted to win a showmanship buckle. When I told people that was my goal, they knew I had it in me. I'm going to take you through my journey to achieving the buckle.
My journey begins when my heifer arrived home from

My local show is very competitive because our rival school has 22 head of cattle, but my school only has 7. I knew I had to win showmanship. When Dime and I walked into the ring I knew she was going to be a handful. The judge told me after asking me two questions that I was going to win it but he wanted to give the other top 4 a chance. We did oral reasons over the cattle that were in the ring. I had to evaluate a Santa Gertrudis heifer. The hardest question the judge asked was, “if we only had three cattle left on the planet, what would they be?” The correct answer was Brahman, Holstein, and Angus. Brahman for their hardness, Holstein for their high milk production, and Angus for their meat. After everyone finished answer this question, he finally got on the microphone and asked me to say my answer to the question and my reasoning. He said that I was the only one that got it right. He then awarded me champion showman. I started crying because it was my last school show and I came home as the Magnolia ISD Senior Heifer Showmanship Champion. Through all my years if show that was by far the best showmanship contest I have ever been
The first virtue that can be obtained through the world wide sport of rodeo is patience. Because of the fact that rodeo is such a big sport, there are many competitors. With this in mind and the fact that events take more than a few mere seconds, rodeos can be an all day event. In a high school rodeo in Laramie this spring, there were nearly 200 runs or rides being made throughout the course of just one day. So you can imagine the...
Throughout all texts discussed, there is a pervasive and unmistakable sense of journey in its unmeasurable and intangible form. The journeys undertaken, are not physically transformative ones but are journeys which usher in an emotional and spiritual alteration. They are all life changing anomaly’s that alter the course and outlook each individual has on their life. Indeed, through the exploitation of knowledge in both a positive and negative context, the canvassed texts accommodate the notion that journeys bear the greatest magnitude when they change your life in some fashion.

History has a strange way of coming back around when it comes to human civilization. It has been said repeatedly that those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. However, just because there is a potential for danger in the future, this does not mean that humanity must ignore what once was. History is normally remembered through what is known as a memorial. When a memorial is put into a physical representation, it is then known as a monument. The need to memorialize events or people is complex; in some cases, monuments honor moments of great achievement, while in other cases, monuments pay homage to deep sacrifice. A monument's size, location, and materials are all considerations in planning and creating a memorial to the past. Examples of such feats are the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and even Mount Rushmore. For the latter of the
It’s 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Jake and I are headed down the longest stretch of road in Texas. We have just pulled out of El Paso and are on the way to Fredericksburg to participate in the Frontier Days Rodeo. We were fortunate to have put together a decent run on our last draw and win enough day-money to keep us going for a while. Jake and I are rodeo-bums, to be specific, calf ropers. I am the one who tries to throw the loop of a rope around a calf’s neck and Jake is my partner, the best roping horse a cowboy ever mounted. By the way, how many understand the art of calf roping? I thought so. Let me walk through the steps of what it takes to put together that perfect run, not that I can do it that often.
That year I had already went to 31 high school rodeos. I had pretty much been all over the state of Colorado. From Cortez, all the way over to Lamar. The whole fall and spring season I accumulated points that went towards the year end State Finals Rodeo. I had some good rodeos and I had some very bad rodeos. I had a few first places and a few second places. Most of my points came from fifth or sixth place finishes.
What is a Journey? If a person off the street was randomly asked this question, he or she would say it would involve taking a trip to a distant location, perhaps as a vacation. For instance, going to Hawaii or the mountains to hike or ski. In “Gestalt’s Paradoxical Theory of Change” by Reg Harris, the idea of a journey referring to a long distance vacation is not the intent of Harris. To him, a journey begins with a person having an open mind, who is willing to take a closer look at themselves after critical analysis undergoes transformation. I agree that the journey is a way to find yourself, but I personally think a journey is more than just looking into yourself. A journey is a collection of events on which the exposure leaves impressions
It was a rodeo in Minnesota, with a lot of entries. It was our turn, and we were just entering the arena. I could tell the pony was scared and breathing differently. As I try calming him down before we take off, he rears up and flings me right off his back. I lay there on the ground and he is scarred running circles. People there were trying to catch him but he could hear them and take off again. Finally, I go up and talked to him saying “Its okay, you were just scared.” He heard my voice and slowly came towards me and I slowly walked towards him. After I got him, I explained that he was blind and has not been in a show since. I was still counted as disqualified because he did not complete the pattern and did not have a rider on
A physical journey occurs as a direct result of travelling from one place to another over land, sea or even space. The physical journey can occur individually or collectively, but always involves more than mere movement. Instead physical journeys are accompanied by inner growth and development, catalysed by the experiences and the decisions that impact the outcome of the journey. These journey concepts and the interrelationship between physical and emotional journeys is exemplified in the text; The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, the children’s book Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and the film Stand By Me directed by Rob Reiner.
Back on the road of life, I now have a better understanding of where I’m going. With my strengths I need to effectively use them to overcome my weaknesses. Instead of making goals I need to make SMART ones. And instead of worrying too much about where the destination is, realize that it is not the destination but the journey. “Make learning a way of life rather than a phase of life.”
Washington our nation’s capital, became the home of the Washington’s Puyallup state fair, in June 1900, when a group of local businessmen, farmers and residents joined together to discuss the idea of a fair in the Puyallup Valley area. 1According to the fair.com/about-us/history/, a board of directors were formed as the governing body of the "Valley Fair", decided the purpose of the Valley Fair Association was to advance the interests of agricultural, horticultural, dairying, stock raising, mining, and manufacturing industries of the Puyallup Valley. 2 Selling shares of stock provided the capital to begin the, Puyallup Fair, it was located on a vacant lot; the dates of the first Fair were October 4-6, 1900. 3 At the time, admission to the first annual "Valley Fair" was $1 per family for all three days. Today admission prices are $12.50 for adults; $9.00 for anyone 62+, for ages 6-18 and it is free for children 5 years or younger.4 Surrounding the fair, was a 10-foot fence which acted as the first main gate. Sheds were built to house exhibits etc. with the left-over wood from building the fence.5 Inside the fair a tent was raised to protect produce, "ladies work," and livestock, horses as well as cows were tethered to a nearby fence.5 At the Fair, the most popular entertainment was horse racing, therefore the fair was built around a race track which was used from 1901-1977. 6 Parking lots were established in 1902, with the invention of the automobile, and people were travelling from all over to come to the Fair.7 At the time parking a buggy or automobile cost only 25 cent, today official fair parking s is $10 on weekdays and $12 on weekends.8 Also today during the Puyallup Fair a number of locals also provide private parking areas...
I took riding lessons for many years, made friends with horses I could ride, and when I got a little older started to help give lessons. After many years of pleading and convincing, my parents finally gave in and bought me my first horse. I had just turned 13 and couldn’t have thought of a better birthday present. Sly was a beautiful dark bay reining horse and he was also 13. We competed together for three years, mostly in Utah Quarter Horse shows, but we also qualified for the Novice World Championships in 2013, and 2014. After a few amazing years working with Sly, I needed a new challenge; therefore we purchased a new all-around quarter horse. Deuce was a much more sophisticated horse than I was used to riding in the past. He was very well trained and made me extremely more confident as a competitor. Deuce and I ended up placing first in trail and third in horsemanship at the AQHYA World Championships. Going to that show, let alone winning it has been my biggest equine accomplishment so far in my show career. I still show both horses to this day and will never be able to get enough of

To illustrate , the evidence attained by Jones, Goodfellow, McGreevy, and Yeates would suggest that about 4 years ago a council that controls the rules of horse racing in Britain know as the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) spent time assessing it’s current rules on whipping . The British Horseracing Authority clearly have the power to control the environment of the sport in Britain. To elaborate, its certain that “Prior to this review, the BHA stated that it had the world’s most exhaustive instructions on the use of the whip in racing” but unfortunately “during the lead up to the review, two incidents of excessive whip use by winning jockeys brought whip use under public and media scrutiny, including prompting one Member of Parliament to
We finish what we start. This was the motto that kept me going during the strenuous training period for a marathon. But prior to that, I must confess, I wasn’t an athlete. I was never interested in playing sports, except for recreational badminton. During gym class, I would walk three quarters of the time when it time for the dreaded mile run. I preferred staying indoors and sitting on the couch and watch movies. The first time I had heard about a marathon training program, called Dreamfar, in my school, I thought to myself, what kind of crazy person would want to run a marathon? Never did I realize, eight months later, I would be that crazy person.
