le information that I can use at work as well as in my own daily life to stay safe and healthy. During the training it is important to remember that when working with food it can be easy for the items to be contaminated if stored or handled incorrectly. As a home visitor and preparing meals during playgroup snacks it is important as well that I am showing the families how to prepare meals safely so that while they are at home they understand the importance of having meals prepared in a clean and safe manner. As I reflect on what else the food handling training has taught me is to make sure that anyone touching the food knows how to store the food properly at the correct temperatures, that everyone washes their hands properly, and are not handling
All premises dealing with food registered with the council are inspected on a priority basis according to risk. New premises should register with the council so that an initial visit can be set up and carried out, this will allow them to give advice about complying with the rules set out by the Food Safety Act. All individual working with food and dealing with food should undergo food hygiene training to ensure that they are complying with the Food Safety Act.
Richard Balko and Mary Maxfield discuss personal responsibility, and choices in one’s health in their essays “What You Eat Is Your Business,” and “Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating” respectively. Balko feels the government should not intervene in people’s food intake because it is an individual preference. Instead, Balko asserts that the government should foster a program to assist the American people to take on personal responsibility and ownership of their own health. Similarly, Maxfield paints the same picture that our culture now finds it immoral to eat what our body needs, therefore believing in the idea of eating less is healthier. Maxfield points out the multi-billion dollar campaign of corporations into advertising false hope into consumers by buying into eradication of fatness. Why has food have suddenly become a risky subject at the dinner table? And who is to blame? Is it everyone else or do we blame ourselves?
Nutritionism and Today’s Diet Nutritionism is the ideology that the nutritional value of a food is the sum of all its individual nutrients, vitamins, and other components. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Pollan’s main point is introducing science into our food system has had more of a negative impact than a positive one, we should go back to eating more of a traditional diet. I believe food science has given us
Michael Pollan makes arguments concerning the eating habits of the average American. Pollan suggests, in spite of our cultural norms, we should simply “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants.”
Foodborne illness also termed as foodborne disease or simply food poisoning is caused due to consumption of contaminated food. It is a common illness but effects millions of people worldwide, and can prove itself to be deadly. Some common foodborne illnesses include botulism, cholera, salmonellosis and shigellosis (Foodborne illness primer work group). Foodborne illness can be a symptom of almost 250 different diseases that can be caused due to bacteria, viruses or a variety of other parasites that can contaminate the food. Most common foodborne infections caused by bacteria are due to Campylobacter and Salmonella species (WebMD).
“There are … responsibilities more important than making sure the food our families eat is safe” (Joe Biden). The vice president of the United States does not consider food safety important. The government food agencies such as The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), do not do enough to ensure our safety from food. Our standards of ensuring food safety have dramatically dropped due to government food agencies not doing enough to protect us and making new rules and regulations to hard for food producers.
Educators need to be prepared for any accidents that may occur, make sure there is a first aid kit that is well stocked and checked on a regular basis. Food must be handled properly and a well balanced diet should be followed. Food safety guidelines need to followed to preven...
Behaviors to Improve Patient Safety. There are five behaviors in which I, as a health care professional, can practice in order to improve safety for patients in my direct care. These include following written safety protocols, speak up when you have concerns, communicate clearly, don’t let yourself get careless, and take care of yourself. By adhering to simple, basic protocols such as hand washing you can be a key player in reducing the spread of infection to your patients and thus, keeping your patients safe. As a healthcare professional you must be an advocate for your patients and their safety by reporting unsafe working conditions, close calls, and adverse events.
Food safety is an increasingly important public health issue. Governments all over the world are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. Food borne illnesses are diseases, usually either infectious or toxic in nature, caused by agents that enter the body through the ingestion of food. “In industrialized countries, the percentage of people suffering from food borne diseases each year has been reported to be up to 30%. In the United States of America, for example, around 76 million cases of food borne diseases, resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths, are estimated to occur each year.” (Geneva 2)
What’s more, we should always be careful and share the information all the time, so that more children can grow up happily and healthy. Restaurants are kind of dangerous now, you never know if they are clean or not. That’s not the most important matter however; we have to be careful with what we are eating now. We have to pay more thoughtfulness to these foods we eat which are not healthful and always prevent buying them, when we find the restaurant is not clean enough, call the food safety department and never go again.
Handling, processing, and preparation such as (cooking, cooling, reheating, holding/service) should be controlled to ensure that the food is not contaminated in any way.
Each and every year millions of people become sick because of food poisoning and other food related illnesses. Many of these illnesses can easily be prevented by properly cooking and handling food in the kitchen. Unfortunately, many people around the world are unaware of the consequences that can occur from contaminated and undercooked food. It is important for every individual who is planning on making a meal in their life (virtually everyone) to understand how to properly prepare their meal.
As part of learning about nutrients and food, in health class, we kept a food diary. In this food diary we kept track of every thing we ate and then calculated the calories, carbohydrates, proteins, and fat amounts in each item that we consumed. Being able to see what all we have consumed allows us to know what we should be eating more of and what we are consuming too much of. I believe that this is a very good way to maintain a healthy and well-rounded diet.
The purpose behind the education is learning basic food preparation, learning the styles of knife cuts and food presentation. Most importantly of all food preparation is sanitation.
Food is a product that is rich with nutrient and can be contaminated with exposed to major source such as water, air, dust, sewage, insects and rodent (Oi Nee and Norrakiah, 2011). As a food handler they need to handle the changes in preparation techniques and food production because the fact remains whereby food is the source for microorganism which can cause illness (Oi Nee and Norrakiah, 2011).
