CULTURE
Culture influences us all. It is the basic building block of what makes us, us. Culture consists of one’s language, beliefs, values, norms, and material objects that are passed from generation to generation. Everyone comes from a different cultural background. However, culture is universal. Even if you abandon your own culture, you may convert to another culture. Culture is shown in two ways, material culture and non-material culture. Everyone shows both of these with the way they dress, the jewelry that they wear, the art that may be in their homes, and the arrangement of their furniture.
As we all know, culture is shown in many ways and to a certain degree. For example, some people put their heart and soul into their culture while others just proclaim their culture. I would say I fall in between those two. I am proud to be an Armenian and I like to show it. I display it with

Because I’m Armenian, I may have different views to many situations compared to other culturally influenced people. For example, I strongly believe that the Armenian Genocide was terrible and needs to be recognized by every country because of the atrocities that took place. Conversely, other people don’t agree with that. Just this week one of my teachers proclaimed to the class that “Armenians just have to suck it up”. I am also very stubborn as most Armenians are. I will argue to the absolute last word
My Attitude
This sent me into shock as to how someone could say that. I just have this very stern and angry attitude toward her and many of the other people who have this mind set. I also usually get very crossed with people who argue about views on a particular subject. 9/11 is one of those topics. Many people believe that it all started with horrific attacks on the twin towers. However if the U.S. hadn’t gone to those Middle Eastern countries and killed just as many of them there, then we wouldn’t have been attacked ourselves.
Throughout the years, humans have shaped the world and many societies have developed different cultural patterns. Culture is the way of life of a society. Through culture, we learn how to collaborate with groups of people and we learn how to survive and adapt to changes. It is composed of values and beliefs that are shared by other members of society, as well as species survival. Every culture has different cultural elements that are vital to one’s survival in a certain place.
Culture is a difficult concept to put into words. “Traditionally anthropologists have used the term culture to refer to a way of life - traditions and customs - transmitted through learning” (Kottak, et al. 2008: p.11). Children inherit their culture, as well as social norms and ethics, through a process called enculturation. Enculturation, in essence, determines who a person will become, because culture defines who a person is. More specifically, “Culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities or habits acquired by man as a member of society” (Taylor, 1971/1951: p. 1). In modern society, our traditions and customs come from a variety of different sources. Television,
Within the United States there is a huge diversity of cultures. Culture is many different things, it is a tradition, it is the values and beliefs passed down from generation to generation, and culture is the identity of any country. Culture helps to identify one cultural group from the other. Although we may live in the same country, city, or state we still differ from one another by the way we dress, our beliefs, language, traditions, music, art, food, religion, and politics.
People are what their culture makes them. It brings people together or separate them, through heritage. As it is our interaction with the world; influenced through our childhood and heritage. Culture is the most influential element in society, it impacts the way a person views their surroundings, affecting their morals, values, and decisions.
The cultural context for the Armenian person is the result of upholding and defending a way of life and values that have been maintained for centuries, for perhaps two thousand years. For that reason, although Armenians living in the United States today come from a variety of countries of origin, and may to some extent speak different dialects or even different languages, yet they have many cultural similarities due to centuries of commonality. The cultural similarities among the Armenians can be seen mainly in three different areas: Spirituality, historicity, and family.
Culture is a set of beliefs, values and attitudes that a person inherits from a society or a group that they are in and they learn how to view the world and how to behave, these principles can then be passed down from generation to generation so that the culture that has been inherited can live on for
To conclude, cultures are a major part of our lives and they constitute the image we see the world in. cultures can sometimes influence us, even in ways we don’t expect. Sometimes we find ourselves forced in cultures with negative stereotypes but that does not mean we should be ashamed of those cultural groups but rather embrace our culture and stray from the negative characteristics of that
Culture can be defined by one’s family history. Without a doubt, the way a person a raised has a huge impact on their life. Parents teach their children how to be a good person based on their own beliefs. If a parent grew up from a poor background, then that parent may instill the importance of education and hard work. If a parent grew up being overweight, then that parent may instill the importance of eating healthy and exercising. In other words, the next generation is learning behavior patterns to hopefully better themselves as a whole.
Culture has a variety of meanings in our daily lives. Culture is defined as objects created by a society as well as the ways of thinking, acting, and behaving in a society (Macionis). Culture has a variety of elements that is important in understand. To grasp culture, we must consider both thoughts and things. Culture shapes not only what we do, but also what we think and how we feel.
The cultural event that I attended was the Paseo First Friday Art Walk. I chose this event opposed to others because of the unique environment. This was located in downtown Oklahoma City as a strip mall known as The Paseo Arts District. There were art galleries, art demonstrations, live music, pottery, and food. This was all very fascinating to me and I enjoyed my time there.
What is culture? Culture is identity; it’s the indigenous or non-indigenous ideology, habits, customs, appearances and beliefs that people are either raised by or adapt to from different nations surrounding. It is a network of knowledge shared by a group of people. Culture consists of configurations, explicit and implicit, of and for behavior obtained and spread by symbols establishing the distinctive achievement of human groups including their embodiments in artifacts; the vital core of culture consists of traditional ideas and especially their attached values. Culture systems may, on one hand, be considered as products of action, and on the other, as conditioning influences upon further action.
Culture has a major role shape in our society. Even though some individuals live in the same culture don’t end up with the same characteristics. Many things in culture can affect our society. For example the music we listen to, the clothes we wear the places we go to, government and many more. Another related issue I see now in days is how we are to follow any example that is established from popular culture, like the media. It just seems very strange and odd to me that whoever controls the media industry has so much control over people 's actions. People are influenced by their culture. Another example is the clothes we wear. We feel that we need to wear the best clothes and become very materialism and that’s because we are being drove by
1. What is Culture? What I personally think is that our culture is the foundation of who we really are in life. It identifies the lifestyle and pursuits that are practiced in the group of people we relate with in our society. In other words, an important concept to understand is that cultural beliefs, values, and practices are learned from birth first at home, in church, and other places where people meet. Some practices and beliefs in human culture include religion, music, sports, food, health beliefs, and art which represent the values we have in life. Also, our own culture is diverse and it is significant to look with in and identify what we value the most, what is essentially needed, and how we see the world. It is our remaining tool and we don’t even realize it is needed to communicate and socialize with others.
There are a lot of different cultures in the world we live in today. Finding the place you belong and discovering your own culture can be a challenge. This is especially true when you look at culture as an individual versus culture in your family, or even within your community. I’ve always been very family oriented, so that plays a big part in who I am and how my family’s dynamic works. I believe that my family has had a huge impact on the development of my culture, and I hope that I have had the same impact on theirs.
Culture is the totality of learned, socially transmitted customs, knowledge, material objects and behavior. It includes the ideas, value, customs and artifacts of a group of people (Schaefer, 2002). Culture is a pattern of human activities and the symbols that give these activities significance. It is what people eat, how they dress, beliefs they hold and activities they engage in. It is the totality of the way of life evolved by a people in their attempts to meet the challenges of living in their environment, which gives order and meaning to their social, political, economic, aesthetic and religious norms and modes of organization thus distinguishing people from their neighbors.
